COUNTPOLLEN  After installation, which appeared to be alright, my macbook pro (early 2008) wouldn't reboot normally.

The installed screwed up my system.

After checking the boot camp partition and repairing permissions for OS X (using install DVD) I could finally boot normally.

I am really happy that I have my files back and would like to request a method for the restoration of Apache setting before the installer destroyed it.

I can't recommend the application to anyone right now.

Use Flickr, BubelShare or Picasa and save yourself the misery.

ANONYMOUS  Hi,

changes done in Apache settings definitely can't prevent your Mac from booting. I would even say, although I can't check it, that any change in Apache settings won't prevent your Mac from booting.

You may have had an other issue related to system permissions.

AKROBAT  Hmm, would have been good but I get the same 'No permission' error. Tried deleting the server and reinstalling... no luck. Switched the webserver tab on and off... still no luck. Can't find anything on the site forum on how to fix it.

Back to .mac I suppose or I'll look for something else online.

ELRADAR  I did get the log-in page to load, after consulting the Leopard Finder "Help" menu. An Apple support article was listed that had the solution. An excerpt follows:

===================

If you installed Mac OS X 10.5 via an Upgrade Install (the default type), follow these steps:

Open TextEdit.

Click the Format menu and click Make Plain Text. Then click OK.

Copy the below text as is and paste it into the TextEdit document.

Options Indexes MultiViews

AllowOverride None

Order allow,deny

Allow from all

Replace the word "myname" with your user account's shortname. (This is the same name as the user's Home folder in the Users folder.)

Save the TextEdit document on the desktop with the name "myname.conf" where "myname" is the shortname.

At the prompt, click "Use .conf".

Quit TextEdit.

In Finder, from the Go menu choose Go to Folder.

Type in: /etc/apache2/users/

Click Go.

Drag "shortname.conf" from the desktop into the Finder window for (/etc/apache2/users).

At the prompt, click Authenticate.

Enter the administrator username and password and click OK.

Close the Finder window.

Open Terminal.

Enter this command on a single line, followed by Return:

sudo chown root:wheel /etc/apache2/users/shortname.conf

Enter your administrator password when prompted.

Quit Terminal.

Open System Preferences and click Sharing.

Uncheck (deselect) Web Sharing to turn it off, then check Web Sharing to turn it back on.

=============

This got me to the log-in page, but the default user name and password were not accepted, so I'm still stuck.

GLOBS  this is normaly suposed to be handled by the installer.

For instance, you should find such a paragraph at the end of /etc/apache2/httpd.conf:

# Following lines added by WiPha installer to take wipha .htaccess into account

AllowOverride All

If you don't find this, the installation did not do it's job, and you'll encounter further permission issues.

Maybe you should just remove the wipha folder in your Sites folder and reinstall it.

ELRADAR  Yes, removing the entire wipha folder from the Sites folder and re-installing did the trick. I encountered a new obstacle in that my iPhoto Library is on a separate hard drive and using the path "/Volumes/Media/iPhoto Library" gives me an error that the path or permissions are not correct.

ELRADAR  I am unable to install and load wipha log in. I get "You don't have permission to access /~xxxx/wipha/ on this server" message. I am running the latest Leopard update on a MacBook.

GLOBS  Hi.

Does it still happen when you switch the web sharing off and on again through the Apple sharing preference pane?

BILLY THE BIKER  I am unable to install the program. It appears to be in the Sites folder, but the installer window keeps spinning at the configure Apache point. Any ideas?

APPLECRYPT MODS  though i don't like how the installer automatically starts up web sharing and then loads safari!

Not only is camino my default browser (so u by-passed this!) but I installed Apache 2.2 myself and don't use Apple's web sharing (apache v1.3).

The installer should be more friendly and perhaps just install the wipha folder and nothing more..??

Otherwise (!) this is great software and highly recommended! thank you
