ZZ9908  I was interested in the Pro version because I wanted to download and save flash video from C-Span, but this program won't do it. "Bad Program ID" error message every time. And since you have to buy the Pro version in order to try the save feature, I'm out $20. The refund policy is a joke.

GRYFFIN  ROB_GENDREAU: Name me one other player that can step through SWFs one frame at a time. I can't.

There are plenty of tools for yanking Flash video off a web page. But for a Flash developer, for analyzing your animation frame by frame, this thing is a godsend.

ROB_GENDREAU  Hard to tell if this really works; the save function is diabled and the free version doesn't do much that other free apps don't already do.

I've posted a question on eltima's web forum, and emailed tech support, but didn't get a response. I wanted to know if in a particular situation I could save some flash animations from a website; the only swf file is a player that accesses other resources that I was interested in downloading. Unfortunately the developers don't respond.

GRYFFIN  Everybody's doing that now. The first three numbers are the traditional version number (3.8.17), the last (four digit) number is the build number. Ain't no big thang.

SILVERDEMON  I've been looking for a program like this to can play certain swf files like games, etc.

This is a very useful application, but it lacks one feature. Rather, it does have this feature but it works in a weird way: the volume slider doesn't change the output of the program, but rather the main system volume. Which, in most cases, probably doesn't matter, but in my case I really needed it to work in another way.

SPRINGHEELMAC  Gannet-I believe Perian has that and other codecs, which is on this site. Between that and Flip4Mac, Quicktime can be made to handle most anything. This program does sound like it has nice features though.

MIKURO  Perian can play FLVs, but not SWF animations. QuickTime has built-in support for some SWFs, but not most recent ones. It seems like Apple has not updated that since QuickTime 5 or 6. Also, you need to jump through some hoops just to get QuickTime Player to let you TRY to open SWFs.

GANNET  QuickTime *was* able to play swf files up to version 5 (Flash is up to version 10 now). As of QuickTime 7.3.1 Flash support has been completely locked out though.

AKROBAT  This application was my regular player for all .swf & .flv files. However it is broken in OS 10.5 Leopard.

Haven't been able to get it to work since I upgraded.

Doesn't play and has to be force quitted every time.

I searched for any other player and came across flvThing here on MacUpdate.

Fantistic, I was surprised. It's small, uncluttered (no mini viewers and playlist windows all over the screen) and even though it's over a year old actually works on Leopard no problem. Oh yeah, and it's free unlike this broken one that I had to pay for!

WAKAYAMA  this and other flv player are a total resource hog - on my g4 1.5 gig powerbook playback falls apart if I bring an other app or window to the foreground.

Do yourselves a big favour, and download the perian plugin for quicktime, and tame those flv files

http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/22923/perian

it just doesn't get any simpler, and it's totally free

VICTORIA VELIGODSKY  You see, "Pause" button of SWF and FLV Player for Mac works only for the main timeline. If the movie contains an embedded timeline or movieclip timeline - then the pause control will not work. This is the peculiarity of Macromedia Player which is our product is based on. Note that browser application and iSwiff would react the same way.

As for dimenstions - so it was implemented by the developers.

SHOCK J  Seems to play .flv files fine. Immediately crashes when trying to play .swf files. So, we're halfway there. Still looks like the best standalone option for .flv files. You can just drop .swf files on your web browser.

LANCE UPPERCUT  An application of this type is sorely needed on this platform and this program seems to have a lot of potential. I say 'seems' because it's non-functional for me. FLV files load and quit after a fraction of a second--far short of the 5 seconds touted.

INTELLECT INSIDE  The volume slider ties into system volume, instead of only affecting SWF-MP. This is...

BAD PROGRAMMING PRACTICE!!!

Give the app its own independent volume control, or don't give it a volume slider at all. The system volume should never be affected by an app's volume controls.

BILL B  My experience was not like the that of the last reviewer. Double-clicking a flash file correctly launches the player and plays the file. Could be because I'm using Panther.

I really like this program; it's much more versatile than the Macromedia flash player. My only gripe is that, as the default player, no icon shows now on flash files.

MACUPDATE ADMIN  Since the most recent posting of SWF Movie Player here at MacUpdate, nothing has changed on the Eltima pages for SWF Movie Player to suggest that there have been changes to the app since version 1.1 of SWF Movie Player was posted on MacUpdate: no release notes (that I can find) and certainly the version number has not changed.

This leads to confusion. Perhaps Eltima will consider a more indicative version numbering system.

Dec 30 2005

ELTIMA SUPPORT  Indeed, the major and minor numbers have not changed and are 1.1 as of December 30, 2005. This is made intentionally, since there are not many fixes and updates added from the first release. As the result the only build number (the last four digits) is changed from 1.1.50.0632 to 1.1.50.1266. Basically, Eltima Software has the strict policy regarding version numbering which we are due to follow. Unfortunately, macupdate.com doesn't support "change logs" feature that provides you with detailed information about current version and all changes since the first release. To check this info please, visit our homepage at: http://www.eltima.com/products/swf-movie-player/

MACUPDATE ADMIN  "Unfortunately, macupdate.com doesn't support "change logs" feature that provides you with detailed information about current version and all changes since the first release."

Not true. MacUpdate does support version history/changelogs/release notes. It is just that some developers do not provide that info to us or do not have it available on their website(s).

See the submission form, there is a "Version Changes" box for version history/changelog/release notes.

ELTIMA SUPPORT  We couldn't reproduce your problem however, have tested a lots of SWF files. The possible fix of the problem is the following: enable "Automatically play files added to Playlist" option and disable all options in "Go to next Playlist item if" section. If this doesn't help, please, send SWF file in question to our support team and specify all options you have set in "Preferences" dialog that lead to the described problem. Thanks for the cooperation.

ELTIMA SUPPORT  More likely that you have set "Go to next playlist item if" group of options to a very small value, however, it is hard to find out the reason of the problem without being properly informed. Could you, please, describe your problem more thoroughly?

Do you mean that the Player unexpectedly quitted or jumped to the next playlist item?

Thanks in advance.
