SPARTAN  It does not work with 10.5.5 to disable System services like the infamous ChineseTextConverter.

BEPE  idem …

I dont have access to the system services (Chinese Textconverter, Finder, …), so I can't disable them :-((

Suggestion : It can be useful to sort the services by type : system / external providers, disable / enable.

Great work

PS : is there a possible way to have the services menu into a contextual menu (under right clic) ??

UNCOY  Makes the service menu usable again. Only one of the service menu editors which actually works. Check out Butler and Witch also.

Peter Mauer and Marcel Brink (Tinker Tool and Hardware Monitor) are two of very few programmers whom I trust with system level utilities. Rock solid.

I've donated to almost every product they write and recommend you consider making a donation as well.

Any of their code is better and more useful than 90% of the $30+ shareware apps out there.

HENRIKTEKNIK  This is just great. It doesn't do much, but for what it does, it performs great. It's fascinating how Apple wouldn't implement such a feature within Finder, right off the bat.

I've never had any problems with Service Scrubber and it will continue to be part of my most essential apps collection.

5 stars, all cathegories.

MINIMAL DESIGN  Everything created by Peter Maurer is a must have...

I wouldn't know how to use OS X without Butler and this is yet another super useful and perfectly designed app.

BURRO  Will this help change the e-mail app called upon by the "Mail->Send..." menu items?

PETER MAURER  No. Sorry. Service Scrubber lets you change the structure of your services menu, but you can't change what a given service actually does.

If you want your (non-Mail.app) e-mail client to provide a service for sending e-mails, you'll have to contact the developers of that e-mail client.

ALANR  Very nice. I *finally* got rid of Chinese Text Convertor (and a few other duds).

Thanks!

SZABESZ  Seems to be working on 10.3.9, but there is a small interface glitch. The "Service Providers" text on the left side is overwritten with the first service. So they occupy the same place.

LEOOFBORG  Peter Maurer. My hero! First Butler. Then Textpander. Now this.

Yes, as MacBeth said, the Service Manager PrefPane has been around forever, but it was always dicey with /System based services like System UIServer's 'Open URL...' and some non-compliant apps like RealPlayer's like 'Open URL in RealPlayer'. I couldn't change the key combos in one and could not get rid of the other!

Service Scrubber changes that. Perfect access and administration of all services, wherever they may be.

If you want Services to bend to your will and actually -use- the 'menu, you need this.

MACUPDATE ADMIN  Yeah, Peter Maurer, he's a wizard. By the way, he's also had a hand in coding our MUMenu menu item.

MACBETH  Butler, Witch, CalenderClock, TextPander, and now this ... Is Peter Maurer really one guy or is it the alias of a collective of very clever developers? Every time a new app gets released under that name, you can be sure that it's something so useful that it will become an essential part of your Mac.

ServiceGrabber is no difference. It's not exactly a new invention (some years ago, the QuickSilver developer released a preference pane called Service Manager that did the same job), but it has a much better interface and a few extra features like customizable shortcuts and the option to restructure the Services menu.

Two suggestions:

- Like Witch and Textpander, this should be a preference pane, not an application.

- ServiceScrabber examines and displays the services on every available system. If you have an emergency system on a backup drive, ServiceScrabber shows duplicate Service entries. It should limit itself to the startup drive (or at least make it a preference).

Thanks for another great utility.

MACBETH  Writing a rave review and misspelling the name of the program twice is a bit ... idiotic. ServiceScrubber, damnit!

(When will we be able to edit reviews?)

SJK  Just being able to *preview* reviews/comments here would be a start.

Nice review, btw, except you could have held back that 5th star 'til Peter implements your good suggestions (especially the 2nd one). :-)

SJK  PS: Just wanted to add (another OT comment) that the recent MacUpdate site changes are much appreciated, like non-anonymous authors (can help reduce junk commentary, IMO), "Email me when someone replies to this review thread", and authors' review history. Lookin' good!

Now, to figure out the best way to get rid of the duplicate Service Providers caused by Launch

Services dups ...

FREEFROG  Freakin' awesome! I've always hated the way apps "plug into" services but offer no easy way to remove/reorganize them. With DevonThink's HotService and Service Scrubber I again have a lean, mean service using machine.

MAKAI  Brilliant indeed! Usage is straight-forward, and the revert feature makes it even fool-proof.

I never could get myself around to use the Services -- too much clutter, hard to keep track what's available in what situation, and arbitrarily-predefined keyboard shortcuts that just don't fit with my way of structuring shortcuts system-wide.

Hopefully my disinclination is going to change now that Service Scrubber helped me to re-organize the menu; after all, the Services idea is basically quite neat. So, only a cautious "4" rating in the "value" department.

BTW, Service Scrubber works under 10.39 as well.

GAOSHAN  Wow! Peter Maurer makes great Mac software. Like Peter's other products Service Scrubber is a gem. It makes getting rid of excessive service menu items a snap (and putting them back just as easy).
