BROOKLYNICK  THIS PROGRAM ERASED MY ENTIRE IPOD.

I downloaded it to restore the iTunes library on my recently crashed Mac. Thus, this program deleted my ENTIRE MUSIC LIBRARY.

Useless program with no instructions.

IMACEXPLOSION  Apparently, ipoddisk can not be used for Mac OS 10.6.

When I had 10.5, it was fine. Since I changed my OS from 10.5 to 10.6, ipoddisk has become garbage. Hope they are going to update it soon. Until then, we all have to be patient.

CERNIUK  The OS version checking is broken. It indicates it requires 10.4 or something newer when running on 10.6

GERMANNY  Nice little app. Exactly what i was looking for: a file listing in the Finder so I can backup the music from my iPod to my hard drive (which has lost most of my music). Thanks!

GLADTOKNOWYOU  Hello, I have downloaded the latest iPod Disk version, but it does not work on my PowerBook. I suppose that has to do with the OS. Mine is 10.5.1

My question is: when will a version come out for download which is compatible with 10.5.1 and higher?

Thanks for a soon answer

TONYBOY  Excellent, very elegant solution! I do have a couple of things I would like to see in a future implementation:

(a) Mounting without turning on Disk Mode on the iPod, or mount the iPod on-the-fly if it isn't already.

(b) Mount the iPod as a complete read/write iTunes library so that I can access all of my iPod songs, edit them, use a visualizer, and do everything else I would in iTunes, but with my iPod as the source of the library. (Don't know how syncing would handle some of this stuff, though...)

Excellent app! Must-have!

ISAAC HUANG  The core part of MacFUSE is a kernel extension which iPodDisk depends on to emulate a file system volume.

MacFUSE extends your system but does not alter it, much the same way a web cam driver extends the capabilities of OS X without changing it's semantics.

Nor did it title correctly those it did which I copied.

OLIPOWER  The simplest and best approach to getting your music and playlists off your iPod, in case your iTunes has lost your music due to a crash or whatever.

Not to name any, but I've tried the other options, and all of them are mediocre, and simple does not work.

This one does the job in an intelligent, stable way.

KLFLOYD  WOW! I saw this product featured on the back page of MacWorld and I just can't believe how anything could be better. You open the application while your iPod is mounted and it has everything very neatly arranged in folders by artist, playlist, etc. I just used it to retrieve a podcast on my iPod that was accidently set to auto-delete on my PowerBook. VERY nice utility!

JEFFERY LAY  This program really couldn't be easier. Connect an iPod, run the program, and it immediately quits, leaving a new "iPodDisk" icon on the desktop which opens in the Finder or any other app normally. The icon acts as a read-only network volume, containing folders which match those seen in the "Music" menu of your iPod.

Playlists, genres, albums and artists (or appropriate subfolders, all shown with the correct names) can be accessed from the iPodDisk as if they were folders, and all tag information is kept intact ready for importing into iTunes. FairPlay DRM is unaffected, so piracy is not a major concern.

The only minor negative point is that this program doesn't sync changed ratings and last-played times. However, if you want to do that, chances are you already have the tune on your Mac and you don't need iPodDisk (you can use iTunes as normal) so it isn't likely to be a problem - if it is, use the excellent "Ollie's iPod Extractor" instead, or one of the other tools on this site.

You won't be able to eject the iPod while the virtual disk is present, but that's easily solved - when you're done, eject the virtual disk, and when that's gone, the iPod will eject as normal.

This program is as near perfection as I've ever seen. Kudos to the author.

THISISDANNYZ  I prefer Senuti for a few important features. You can export your music by artist, genre, searching, etc. You can also export your music with the song number on the file (01 The Fist Song.mp3). iPodDisk is a nice, simple application but falls short from Senuti.

ISAAC HUANG  Hi, iPodDisk is still rather young when compared with Senuti, and it does lack some important features, including the ones you've mentioned. Some new features are being planned upon, stay tuned ;)

However, iPodDisk DOES search:

http://ipoddisk.ourbiti.com/index.php/about/

Please have a look at the section "Search your music with Spotlight"; hope it's what you want.

DANBATHGATE  Works perfectly. Used it twice to transfer music off my iPod to a new computer (ok, one of those times was after I accidently erased my hard disk...), but the program is great. Simply tell iTunes to add everything in the Artist directory, wait for it to transfer, and it's all back.

iPodDisk mounts a new volume called, (guess what) iPodDisk, then quits. In the disk are two folders named Artist and Playlists, which contain other folders which can be navigated much like using the iPod itself. For the curious, iPodDisk is a WebDAV volume mounted from 127.0.0.1:8765.

Great job.

JOHNNYCAT  Very, very useful. I haven't tried many other "get music off iPod" apps, but I can't imagine any could be much simpler than this one. Nice job.

Personally, though, I would prefer to see the applications progress status in a small window rather than the menu bar, but that's just me.

ANONYMOUS  This is definately a cool/promising app. But I can't seem to get it to work. There wasn't a ReadMe file with it, but I assume I'm doing it right according to your website.

I double-clicked the app, but nothing happened. I noticed a stop sign with some words in the Menu Bar, but it flashed so quickly I couldn't read it.

Basically, nothing happened. It wasn't even registered in Activity Viewer.

I'm not going to give it a bad rating because the Developer admitted it was the first public release and may have some problems.
