CORPSECORPS Y'all can ignore my previous comment if you're an IconDroplet 1.5 and Leopard 10.5.7 user, since using that method gives you a folder icon (in icon view) that can't be double clicked to open it. You have to click on the name, UNLESS you shrink the preview to 112 pixels or less in size, which makes NO sense, but Apple certainly doesn't seem to be doing anything about any of their new icon bugs. So, while i'm not thrilled about having to use this, nothing else seems to be showing up to do it's job any differently, and the problem with customized folders not being clickable above 112 pixels NO LONGER APPLIES to folders where the custom icon has been copied from the results of IconDroplet 1.5. Therefore i'm giving IconDroplet 4 stars for being the only app i'm aware of which makes it possible to get around this annoying Leopard icon bug!

CORPSECORPS In Tiger there are contextual menus available to copy icons from one file/folder/app to another which is simpler, plus they do other tricks in the process, including combine icons and add effects. For me it's as easy in Leopard to just select the .icns file in the finder and copy (Cmnd-C). Open Preview and choose File-->"New from clipboard" (Cmnd-N). Click in the main pane and copy (Cmnd-C). Select the folder to apply the icon to. Click the tiny preview and paste (Cmnd-V). Afterward there's no faux app to delete.

CHRIS DISREGARD Tried this out and when I drop icons into the program it pauses for a few seconds, then spits back "Connection is invalid." and shuts down all my finder windows. I'm running 10.5.3 and I've tried a number of different .icns files. Both those I've created myself in Icon Composer, and some I've downloaded from the internet.

CHRIS DISREGARD Tried downloading it a few times and no change. I also downloaded it on my MacBook (also with 10.5.3) and it worked great for the first 12 or so, and then started doing the same thing periodically. It's pretty bizarre because there doesn't seem to be any consistency to when it works and when it doesn't.

ZWEI Are you using English as your language? ...if you are doing multiple files ...are you dragging them all on at once, or one at a time? Try dragging multiple files onto the app at the same time. Do any of your files have any weird file names?

CORPSECORPS Once an .icns file has been processed with IconDroplet, it's possible to copy the icon to a folder via the Get Info However, once the icon has been copied to a folder, that folder then cannot be clicked! It can be selected by clicking the name, but NOT the icon.

ZWEI I'm not sure what icon you copied/pasted to your folder, but I can assure you that this app doesn't cause any icon to be unclickable. It can't, actually, because it simply uses a function of OS X to create the icon compatible files. My guess is that you have created an icon with a large percentage of transparency and it's not responding to your clicks because you aren't clicking on a solid part of the icon.

CORPSECORPS Makes no sense to me either. But i created an icon based on the Tiger-style front-on blue folder PNG that was lurking in the CoreTypesBundle in Leopard. I don't know what else there was to it. When i copied it to a folder, the icon wasn't clickable. I looked around for as much info on Leopard icons as i could find but didn't find a reason. Deleting the custom icon fixed the problem. Some folder icons i'm using now, which have a greater degree of transparency, but were created without using IconDroplet, (img2icons i think) work fine. I have had IconDroplet icons work fine. Other times, not.

ZWEI If you could zip up one of the files that is unclickable and email it to me I'd like to see if I can figure out what is causing a problem. I can't imagine it being anything on my end, but it's interesting to me regardless.

INDIEKIDUK I'm using it to make folder icons for my movies so they look great in cover flow. At the moment I do a google image search for the movie cover, load up Icon Composer from the Developers Tools, drag the image (usually a jpg) from Safari to Icon Composer, export as ICS, drag that file onto IconDroplet. Do get info on the file it makes and on my new folder for the movie. Copy and paste the icon from the getinfo window of the file to the get info window of my folder. If there is any way you could make this process shorter I'd be grateful.

INDIEKIDUK By the way you cant copy and paste an image into Icon Composer it has a bug and gets stuck. You need to drag into a file instead.

CORPSECORPS Seem to work fine as stated but it's an awfully round-about way to get a custom icon onto a folder to have to process the .icns file with this, then use 'Get Info', copy the icon from there, use 'Get info' on the destination and paste it back in. Something like a contextual menu item to copy an .icns file and paste it directly to a destination app, file, or folder would make a lot more sense. | |

TICE I guess you didn't get the concept. It's not Info-to-Info-dialog copy it's .icns-to-Info. You can't copy an .icns file the way you have to paste it in the Info-dialog.

CORPSECORPS No. YOU didn't understand what *I* said. I said once processed with this, you have to use Get Info on the source (meaning the result of IconDroplet) and the destination folder, and copy and paste the icon from one to the other. That's EXACTLY what it specifies in the description of this software. It's basically just as easy to select the .icns file, copy it (command-C). Open Preview and create a new file from the clipboard contents (command-N). Then use copy and paste from there to the INFO window of the destination folder. If you want to do several. Keep Preview open.

CORPSECORPS You don't need this tedious thing in Tiger. There are several small icon manipulation apps which include a contextual menu to copy icons from one file/folder/app to another, which is so much easier.

LUTHER I was looking for a decent MacBook icon to replace the stock hard drive icon on the OS X desktop, but I only found one, and it was small. So after downloading Easy Bake Icon and IconDroplet, and preping Apple's stock photo in Photoshop Elements, I was able to create my own MacBook icon in a matter of minutes. Excellent! Thank you to the developer of this program for making it free.

ANONYMOUS It works with Panther (Mac OS X 10.3.9). Just drag ".icns" file onto the application icon. That's it.
