BEZIERBOY No problems whatsoever with version 4.18.5 on my OS X 10.5.8 Leopard system, and I've heard this version is fine on Snow Leopard as well. So ignore my ranting about version 4.18.4 :) Gets the job done, full of features, easy to use, and I've run it for hours with no crashes. All the other file-sharing programs I've tried are either unstable, minimal and lacking features, don't get many results, or have become so dated they barely run correctly. (Version 4.18.5)

BEZIERBOY You can still get 4.18.3 at http://sourceforge.net/projects/frostwire/files/ Works fine in 10.5.8 for me. Next time I won't overwrite the old version with new right away :-) (Version 4.18.4)

HOLYPOLY The chat window takes years to load with this new version, and the chat option can't be turned off - it loads even if the corresponding box in "Community Chat..." is unchecked. Deleting the .plist file doesn't help. Version 4.13.1.6 didn't have this problem. (Version 4.13.1.7)

CASTLE ROSE I don't know what computer your running FW on but it works fine for my w/o any problems. I'm using an old G4 Cube and chat opens fine, and closes correctly. Maybe the problem is that you don't have your ports and firewall setup correctly. What ever your problems are it's not the programs fault. FrostWire heeps getting better and better for me. Keep up the good work guys! (Version 4.17)

WONDERING It looks like it needs Java 1.5.x. (from Frostwire website, and MU has updated their reqs to show that now.) I am not sure if Apple has issued a Java 1.5.x for Panther, I know they have issued it for Tiger. I have always been a little mystified by the way Apple or Java or both come up with version ID: (from Apple site:) : "Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Release 3 includes version 1.5.0_05 and improves functionality of J2SE 5.0 on Mac OS X v 10.4 Tiger 10.4.2 and later. This release does not replace the existing installation of J2SE 1.4.2." (Version 4.13.1.7)

GANATRONIC This is the app I used with linux, and I was always happy with it. So once I switched to Mac I opted for this over limewire. So far it's working great! This latest version, 4.13.1, is using 118mb of memory. That doesn't seem too bad. It's certainly not slowing anything down. Well-built, smooth-running, great app! (Version 4.13.1.5)

DOUG S. I'm rather disappointed with this app. I thought it would be a viable alternative to Limewire and it's really not. I have a MacBook Pro, 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and it was using up 112% of my CPU! It was taking more processor power than Photoshop and almost as much RAM! On top of that, it keeps detecting an non-existant firewall and dropping all downloads to 0 KBps. I don't know what the benefit of this app is to Limewire but as it is I just don't see one. VIRTUALRUFFY If you are using Limewire and then run this program and choose to go back to Limewire then your incomplete downloads are lost. I saw nothing better about this and was extremely annoyed to find out it messed up the incomplete downloads. I see nothing better about this versus Limewire.

BRUCE_Y My experience is a little different: I have successfully gone back and forth from my LimeWire Pro v 4.9.37 to FrostWire (4.9.37 and 4.10.x) and have not lost any in-process downloads. However, one time when i was comparing one of my LimeWire Pro versions to a newer non-pro version, that switch process of running pro, then non-pro, then pro - I ended up losing and having no more in-process downloads. It seems that the Pro version stores information about incomplete/in-process downloads differently than the regular/non-pro version. So I think it is true that FrostWire is = to LimeWire Pro. Thus, if you had LimeWire regular (not Pro) and took a look at FrostWire it might have re-written the incompete/in-process download data db differently, and so losing the data when you went back to regular LimeWire. If you wish to get them going again, you may have to stick with either FrostWire or a version of LimeWire Pro until those downloads are complete. (or, my reply may be too late for that...) Hope this helps. (Something like this should be on the LimeWire website...) (Version 4.10.3-1)

ET VOILà all the apps you named are using the Limewire core. And BTW G2 is SLOWER than Gnutella. It hasn't been worked on since its introduction while Gnutella has improved many times. (Version 4.9.34beta)

ANONYMOUS In my experience G2 seems faster, maybe because it's less popular and therefore less busy; in the Windows environment there are several apps (Shareaza, iMesh, Gnucleus, etc.) that can connect with both networks. (Version 4.9.34beta)

ANONYMOUS I've given it a go and it picked up my incompleted Lwire downloads and resumed them so that confirms it's Lwire in a different guise. However, BE WARNED: If you start this up and have incomplete LW downloads, and then decide you don't like it and switch back to LW, LW will not be able to resume your incomplete downloads. Then if you think your stuck with Frostwire, because you've opened LW after trying Frostwire, Frostwire won't be able to resume them either. Put simply, even though it's the same program it seems to corupt or break its link to incomplete downloads if you open one then the other, then the other again. Confused. Give this a go after completing current Lwire downloads. (Version 4.9.33beta)

ET VOILà It's LW, but its goal is to remove the DRM thing that will be included in LW soon (current LWs are ok) From FrostWire main page: "We are trying to maintain good relations to the LimeWire project. The FrostWire team (all of whom are still members of the LimeWire open-source community) regrets LimeWire's decision to start filtering content on Gnutella. However, we will continue supporting LimeWire development and do not wish to make fundamental changes to the LimeWire core itself. FrostWire will not break with LimeWire's design philosophy. FrostWire however, will never offer a PRO version. The FrostWire project will always remain strictly non-profit and free of any bundled software, including any ads or nags." (Version 4.9.33beta)
