VERYVITO  I've been using CuteClips for some time now, and have come to rely on it. It's rock solid, simple and stays out of the way until I need it (I've tried several similar apps, and just like the way CuteClips fits into my workflow).

I had my first "issue" with it today (It turned out the problem was with my file system and had nothing to do with CuteClips itself), and was pleasantly surprised by the quick response from the developer, too -- adding great support to a great product.

FREDSMITH  Okay, it doesn't do quite as much as the competition but it also doesn't hog memory, crash, lose your clips or get left for years without an update.

The simple window blends nicely (almost invisibly) with the rest of the UI, so you don't get that 'jarring' feeling you get when some of these so-called 'utilities' take over your whole environment. Having said that, the previews are certainly large enough to see what your about to paste (very important for us oldies with poor eyesight).

As well as being very keyboard friendly, the developer has also included some nice usability touches: it comes up with the second item selected rather than the first. This seems a little bit weird at first, but if you wanted the first item on the clipboard, then the chances are you'll just hit command-v without even thinking about it.

Best of all, the developer responds quickly and politely to bug reports and feature requests.

Recommend that you give it a try before shelling out for something more expensive, less well supported and heavy on the memory use. You may find that the smaller feature set is all you really need.

MC_SHIZZEL  Excellent app, it just works and I've never experienced any crashes.

Although there seems to be one small issue with clearing the clipboards, I can never clear all my clipboards one always remains till I add another clipboard in which case I can delete the previous clipboard but am left with another clipboard which won't go away till I add something else to another clipboard.

Even with that small problem this app is good enough for 5 stars.

RAPIDLY WOVEN  I've tried both the cmd+Q and quitting through the preference panel. Neither one actually quit the app as a quick squeeze of the mighty mouse and the app pops up. If this app was actually quit, this would not happen... the squeeze would result in nothing.

KARSTEN@BRIKSOFTWARE.COM  I understand, it really seems that CuteClips doesn't quit. However, the squeeze action is set so that it launches CuteClips. If CuteClips is already running and you squeeze, this will only activate CuteClips as if you would have pressed the hotkey.

You can open Activity Manager and see that quitting CuteClips actually quits it. You should also see that the menu item disappears. It should be back when you squeeze.

Kind Regards

RAPIDLY WOVEN  I rate this app 1 out of 5 stars.

I've found that the app easily stalls while trying to remove clips. Additionally the app has the overwhelming tendency to close itself requiring the user to either place the app on the dock, to use the mighty mouse squeeze shortcut, or to use the keys shortcut. Next I found that the overall UI (user interface) is next to none which leaves the user guessing on how to use it. Finally, quitting this app doesn't really quit it and actually the app keeps running unless you uninstall or turn your Mac off.

I give this app a big thumbs down due to the issues mentioned. To the developer, you need to go back to the drawing board on this and rebuild and/or greatly improve this app.

the idea of CuteClips is that it doesn't stay in your way, thus the window always hides itself once you selected a clip that you want to paste. CuteClips still runs, as you can still see it in the menu bar.

The user interface is keept very simple in order to just provide the clips that were on the clipboard and nothing else. there's not much to guess on how to use it. You activate CuteClips and select a clip that you want to paste...there's nothing else you need to do.

If you want to quit CuteClips you can do so by activating it and hit cmd-q. As CuteClips is a background application you don't have a menu bar where you can select quit. There's also the option to quit CuteClips from the preferences window.

However, i already plan to integrate the current features like shortcuts and sticky clips easier in the UI so that the gear menu of each clip is not needed anymore. It just needs some time to implement them.

DRDUL  I'm posting this as a comment rather than a 5-star review, because I already posted a 5-star review a couple of years ago. CuteClips continues to be my favourite clipboard manager, and Karsten continues to be a responsive developer.

Just for the fun of it, I had a look at some of the other popular clipboard apps, and for my needs, none of them compare. What I like about CuteClips is its simplicity, yet it offers the features that I want:

• Direct pasting (rather than just putting the selected clip on the clipboard as some other apps do)

• The option of stripping formatting and pasting plain text

• The ability to make clips "sticky" and assign numeric shortcuts

• No dock icon

• A clean and attractive appearance

FRANK PARTH  I liked its simplicity. But it takes 20-30 seconds for a clip to actually paste, much too slow for me.

FRANCOLA  Great update! Unless you need the complexity or security of PTHPasteboard, CuteClips is a great clipboard manager. Unlike even PTHPasteboard, CuteClips shows a nicely laid out graphical representation and description of file types as well as text. Looking forward to the final release! Keep up the good work.

KURAMEI  I've tried other clipboard software and so far I'm liking it a lot because it's simple, Mac-like, and intuitive.

There are couple things I've noticed:

1. When uses Spaces under Leopard, when I have the clipboard pop up using a hotkey on one desktop, it will force Spaces to the other virtual desktop the popup was originally. In other words, when I'm trying to paste something in Word for instance in Space 3, I pop up CuteClips which is on Space 1, then I have to drag CuteClips to Space 3 to paste what I want to paste on Word. Making the CuteClips Window appear without having to move through Spaces would be an importance feature to have.

2. There seems to be a bug with the ordering system through the App. I finished buying the beta, but I couldn't save the receipt. The save dialog didn't work and was frozen.

All in all, it looks promising, and a far better alternative to the pricier apps out there.

KARSTEN@BRIKSOFTWARE.COM  Sorry for the inconveniences, but i'm sure I sent you a valid license now :-)

It's a problem from Kagi when they send out the mails, sometimes the serial is not long enough. registering through the build in store works though.

I'm working on it, so until 3.0 final is out, there should be a fix for this. Until then CuteClips is free to use, and if you register and receive a non-working serial, just contact me and i'll send you a correct one.

DRDUL  I just switched to a Mac from Windows, and I have been trying all sorts of clipboard utilities in hopes of finding "The One." And I did! CuteClips3 is great! It's simple (most clipboard apps have way too many bells and whistles for my liking), it looks great (the "classic" interface is ever so Mac-groovy), and it's fast. The developer is responsive, and the price is reasonable. Gotta like that!

ROADTRIPDK  I can understand limiting what a shareware app is allowed to do in trial mode, but you can't even see and fiddle around with the preferences to see if you would want to pay for this!

I think a lot of users like to "trial run" an app before they pay. A new user can only get a vague idea of what CuteClips is all about.

ANGELOS  It is not perfect at all. When I copy (and try to paste) elements within Adobes CS2 applications CuteClips crashes. It cannot handle large files without problems and copying/pasting parts or rows of spreadsheets is not possible. The developer knows about the limitations especially concerned to apps like Adobe CS and he is very responsive but that doesn't really help. I have accept the fact that I have paid for a useless tool...

KARSTEN@BRIKSOFTWARE.COM  the problem with the adobe apps is that they use their own clipboard and only export the the system-clipboard when you switch applications. due to this you don't have a history for clips you copied in adobe apps without changing to another application.

POLYMATHIC  I've tried every clipboard out there, and so far I've always remained with the free PTHPasteboard--that is, until trying CuteClips. And it isn't because it is free that I was using PTH. I liked its simplicity and low footprint, but I disliked the lack of plain text paste and the ugly interface. CuteClips provides a gorgeous interface and plain text pastes, while keeping a tiny footprint--even smaller than PTH in idle CPU usage, and about the same in RAM. In fact, CuteClips has the smallest footprint of any pasteboards out there. Lastly, the developer is very responsive to suggestions. Highly recommended!

KARSTEN  because 12 fit best into the interface, because many can't keep track of more then 12 items, because i think 12 are more then enough and because CuteClips tries to keep things easy and simple and more then 12 clips would be a bit much to be simple. and there're also many other shareware clipboard managers out there that have more features but are not as simple and more expensive.
