T3DO3 Yes, please! It would be so nice to have Uno for Leopard, the windows are way too dark, the difference between in/active windows is huge and the whole thing is eye-tiring :( Moreover, I still don't know why the scroll bars in iTunes are different to those in other apps... Apple tired to unify the GUI but didn't succeed really. (Version 1.5.2)

BAD JOBS - GOOD JOBS If you are on design, you should try "Smoothstripes" designed by Max Rudberg, a nice makeover to Aqua, looks better & more mature than Uno or Apples' Original Aqua style. You can download a standalone installer package for Tiger, so no need to pay for the buggy Shapeshifter. See & download the free "Smoothstripes" here: http://www.maxthemes.com/themes/?theme=SmoothStripes After installation have a look at the clear scrollbars and the beautyfull greyscale replacement for Apples' "brushed"-style, - for me it is nearly perfect, especially if you choose the "graphit"-variation (Version 1.5.2)

HIPPEMAN I've been using Uno on Tiger for months without any problems (except for iTunes a while back). Now we've got Leopard I thought that there's no need for Uno anymore, but I'm wrong: The Leopard theme is much darker than the windows in Uno and is tiring my eyes. So hopefully Uno will come available for Leopard soon! (Version 1.5.2)

Have it installed on my PB G4 1GHz and now my USB-Logitch-Mouse don't respond anymore, I get lost clicks, no reaction on double-clicks, can't move windows by their titlebar and so on. NITHILHER This is really an almost perfect theme for OS X. Finally, everything looks smooth and just gorgeous. However, there is one small thing which bothers me a bit, the menus. The original menus in tiger (OS X 10.4.x) have a very decent transparency and very light stripes. This gives them some structure. Now, in UNO, the menus are still slightly transparent, but have no stripes or other structure at all (e.g. a gradient). Thus, they look very flat and, in my opinion, a bit boring. More importantly, some apps such as Safari have some pretty big menus covering substantial parts of the screen. Without any additional structure, the UNO menus rellay destroy the otherwise nice 3d effect of the UNO theme. Is there a way to add an option to keep the original tiger menus? Or could the menus even be made more customizable? Finally, I would be very interested to see whether I am the only person around here who likes UNO very much but is a bit dissatisfied with the menus. (Version 1.5.2)

STAR-AFFINITY I don't have any problems with the menus looking the way they do now. I think the look is more clean without the stripes. The menus look "3D" enough to me because of the drop shadow. However I agree that it'd bee cool to be able to customize the looks of the menus. People have different taste and preferences. :) (Version 1.5.2)

TUPRING The stripes suck big-time and always will! There are plenty of other similar themes that keep the stripes. Just use one of those. I am looking forward to an update to support iTunes 7.4.x myself

E_COMMERCE Excellent program which does almost everything right. It has the right number of options, and most importantly, does everything *safely*. Checksums and integrity checks are performed for every step (unlike certain other programs which tamper with the interface). It appears to be impossible to screw things up. My only issue has to do with locating the various applications. Uno does not seem to search for applications in non-default locations. If like me you have them in other places, the program will pause for several seconds for each application. For half a dozen applications, this gets tiring, and it happens on every launch. My recommendation would be to either search slightly for applications (two levels deep has worked well for most applications, or use Spotlight), or at least eliminate the delay for selecting applications. PGRILO Thank you for your input. In the past UNO did search for the apps but there was a problem if the user had more than one instance of the app (like on a external HD). Next version will make use of User Defaults and we plan to make UNO "remember" apps paths, among other settings... Thank you. (Version 1.5.2)

E_COMMERCE Thanks. I was suggesting just scanning inside /Applications (or ~/Applications), which would avoid the "second drive" problem, commonly seen with backup drives. [Admittedly, there are a multitude of reasons not to move Apple's applications around, but I do it anyway. I'll have a clean applications folder whether Apple's installers/updaters have any sense or not (I manually move everything back before an update).] One other thing I noticed is when applying the "unified" Uno look to metal windows, the window title text is always in grey, making it look disabled even in the foreground. Only problem I've noticed so far. (Version 1.5.2)

UNO 1.6 is (again) a complete rewrite, and with the release of iTunes 7.2 we felt like "let's wait a bit and release 1.6 instead of updating 1.5. But now with Tiger 10.4.10 update and UNO 1.6 not being at final stage yet, we will just do a small update to 1.5. So, stay tuned for an update. And thank you for your understanding and patience. SPLUNK23 UNO still works and stays installed if you update from 10.4.9 via Software Update. However for those of you who used the Combo Updater and had UNO break as a result, here is the workaround until the next update. Just navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices/ and open up "SystemVersion.plist" and change the "SystemVersion" string from 10.4.10 to 10.4.9 and save the file. Then open up UNO and install it like before. Now just change the .plist file back to the way it was

SPLUNK23 After the initial update to 10.4.10 breaking UNO, iTunes shouldn't have been effected. For me, iTunes was still UNO but the OS itself wasn't. So I backed up my iTunes.app first before doing the tip I suggested. Sorry if you didn't do that first, now you know. Anyway, I have been doing this for awhile so it just comes natural for me to archive iTunes and QuickTime Player everytime new versions are released simply because I have always modified them and learned the hard way once
I even have it (mostly) working in iTunes 7.3
Some of the resources were changed/moved around for this version and also the scroll bar looks as if it's now Hard-Coded as well as the LCD EQ and selection colors so that's the only parts that don't work for me right now. Resorcerer is your friend

MIBRILANE For the previous commenter: I updated to Mac OS X 10.4.10 using the incremental version updater (instead of the combo updater) and UNO survived the update, so if you're losing UNO when you update, you're probably witnessing the combo updater re-installing the system resources that UNO replaces. UNO does what Apple apparently has decided is the right thing to do in Leopard - makes everything look the same with the "unified" interface. Good job, folks! (Version 1.5.1)

ZAPP BRANNIGAN Having tried the other 'theme' changers and modifiers, this is without a doubt the most stable theme unifier on the planet. No haxies, APEs, and confusing settings. It's simple to use, no manual is necessary (but help is available), and gives your entire OS X experience a unified look and feel that Apple applies, or rather, doesn't apply to its own apps (just look at iTunes, Aperture, Finder Windows, and the iLife apps to see how willy nilly their appearances have become). Having used this about a year, I can't imagine NOT having it. Since it's not a program, there's no overhead, processor usage (run it once and you're done!), or incompatibilities with other apps. It just works. And it works VERY VERY well. Plus the lack of 'a million themes' you can give your system is actually its greatest feature. Yes, you can customize here and there, but its very simplicity is the true engine behind UNO. (Version 1.5)

:°
because Window little too flat, just little effect will can be very, very nice (like original Grey Bar Apple)!
The menu Bar is better in White Aqua for me. Finaly Original Theme is better, just brushed windows are ugly
If I just can change Brushed metal to not brushed metal Apple (not Aqua white, grey Apple) and without re install iTunes 7.1, UNO been Perfect !!!

CHRIS_PHS I LOVE UNO!! Thank you so much for developing this! But why doesn't the bookmarks toolbar in Firefox match the top when using UNO shade? The bookmark toolbar for me at least stays UNO colored. Is this intentional, or should I attempt to uninstall/reinstall while selecting UNO shade again?

WHIPLASHGRIN I love UNO, a great unified theme for OS X. I also like that the developer gives you some options about the end result of the mod. Granted, I prefer the smaller Spotlight and Apple icons too, and I'm glad to hear that that too will be optional in upcoming releases, but considering how good the entire theme looks and how much effort obviously went into it you'd have to be a pretty miserable, pathetic person to throw a tantrum about it (looking at you MACPERSON0852). After reading your other "critiques" it's obvious you just like to bitch alot. (Version 1.3.2)

LANOUVELLECHAIR I prefer iridium for the result but the installer is better with UNO. With iridium there's no bug at all(ichat for example), it's lighter and the menubar is not glossy. (Version 1.3.2)

PGRILO Again, Iridium has no bugs because it has no rooms for bugs. Iridium is plain flat, there is no gradient on the toolbar, this way obviously everything matches... You can easly do your Iridium like theme as well: -With ThemePark open the resources file; -Select all resources but the widgets and scrollbars; -Send them to Photoshop and fill with a plain solid color of your preference; -Send them back to ThemePark and save the file. UNO's gradient is a totaly different matter, it is achived by: -Making small pieces of the image to match in a "puzzling" way on some windows; -Making advance use of transparent overlay gradients that in conjunction (aditive) with the layer below outputs the gradient on other windows; -And a lot of "Thinking Outside the Square" on the way. Thank you for trying UNO. (Version 1.3.2)

MACSTERDAM What's with all the hash criticism? Quite unnecessary I think. Uno is a stunningly beautiful theme. Also, it's for free and runs with the need for any of Unsanitie's Haxies. What more could you want? The developer is very open to suggestions as well, but if I were him I'd be severely peed off after reading the various comments here below. To all those who complained, if there;s anything you don't like about Uno, just write the developer and ask for changes nicely. Another 5 stars from me - I'd hate to use Tiger without Uno! PGRILO I like the smaller icons too (that's why I made them in UNO 1.3). I will make available an alt version featuring the small menu items. I just wanna get rid of all the glicths I can in one version before releasing the alt version. Also UNO lite should be available soon (will leave the strips alone and change only the toolbar/titlebar). What I'm trying to say is I better get one version the best it can be before start releasing alt versions and derivs. But will happen soon. I appreciate your feedback! Thank you! (Version 1.3.2)

Many thanks to the developer ;-) But "UNQ1" have a good point here : "If you're going to unify the system, then WHY leave the "aqua/glossy" menu-bar? PGRILO Bzip2 is nothing new. UNO 1.3 and previous versions were released in bz2 format with no problems. UNO 1.3.1 was released as a simple dmg, but people were getting an extra extention added by safari: UNO1.3.1.dmg resulted in a UNO1.3.1.dmg.bz2. Resulting in curruption. Trying to avoid that kind of (SAFARI) problems this time I passed it through bzip2. And Safari doesn't manage that kinf of file nicely. UNO IS AS SAFE AS IT CAN BE! EFF As much as I love UNO (and a big fat thank you for keeping it free!!), it's a bit of a shame that BBEdit windows (BBEdit 8.5 w/UNO 1.3.1, prior versions show the same problem though) are quite the visual mess when the "show line numbers" preference is turned on (Preferences dialod itself is a bit messy, too). I somehow suspect that BBEdit itself is (at least partially) the culprit here but it'd make UNO perfect if there was a workaround for this. (Version 1.3.1)

PGRILO Yes, that's an old known issue. It's a shame, but I can't do nothing about it. It happens because barebones apps uses the window toolbar resource for the prefs window background, line number background, etc. to get the strips. If instead of this choice barebones devs pointed to the right resource (any other one cointaining strips) for the strips, it would look perfect in Aqua (exactly as they designed it to look) and perfect with UNO. Sorry, it's not on my hands... (Version 1.3.1)

PGRILO UNO 1.3.1 dmg is about 16 or 17 MB (to be released very soon), version 1.3 was 100+ MB. Why, you ask... Well because Mac OS X resources are full of "air" and UNO has a lot of those resource files (were do you think all the options come from?). Yes, we could compress them inside the app itself, decompress on the fly and we plan to do it in the future (testing being done), but not without extra (and I mean EXTRA) security/integrity check. We are dealing with very importante (essential, infact) OS files, there is no room for errors here or you could end up with an unbootable system and passing those files through another proccess will need extra security/integrity verification. So the answer is : for Security proposes. (Version 1.3)

PGRILO Hum.. First simple double click the .zip file. You should end up with a .7z. Now use 7zX to decompress it. The extra .zip extension was added just to avoid the browser to load up the file instad of downloading it. The 7z decision was based on it's mind-blowing compress ratio. You are downloading a 8.2MB file, and if it was distributed in a -9 compressed dmg you would be downloading a 20MB file. Even with tar.bz2 the file size would stay for the 18MB. (Version 1.3)

Applied UNO and iTuno to my 10.3.9 and iTunes 6.0.2. The installation didn't work, perhaps because I've been digging into OSX too much (got rid of over 600MB never used components) for it to work or simply I miss necesssary components now for the install, but I managed to install it manually using terminal for the Extras.rsrc The different metal looks within OSX started to drive me crazy, but now it looks sharp, sexy and fast. Uniformal! :) Thank Pedro. Great job! (Version 1.2)

M2ATMAC I've been using UNO for a week now, and I got just one thing to say. This is simply great! The OSX looks much more attractive when this theme is applied. In fact I don't know why Apple didn't make something like this. The next big cat is coming and they should really consider to give a job to Pedro Grilo in Cupertino, so he could redesign the X's look and feel. Great job, and keep up with the good work! SUMSKATER41 Hey this is really great, probably the best unifier i've seen around- but still has a few things that look like they can be improved. First thing- the bottom corners (Address Book, iChat, QT, Finder etc.) gotta be rounded for that just classic, elegant, mac style. I actually do like the squared bottoms for the notices and stuff (such as log out and shut down things), though. Also, the title for things like Address Book and iChat look like they're as dark as if no selected, so it makes it confusing to know if you're typing in a certain box or not. The rounded bottoms is just a small thing, but this actually messes me up sometimes. Other than that- it's great. Keep up the good work! (Version 1.2)

PGRILO Please re-install UNO. Current version works fine with 10.4.4. Only iTuno need to be download again (assuming you updated iTunes to 6.0.2).
| Jan 10 2006 |

PGRILO Yes, I'm doing that in the current beta. But, the main reason why iTuno is a separate installer is the constant changes in it's resources. Today iTunes update to 6.0.2 broke iTuno, and is already update, if it was bundled on the same download it would take some time longer, and people would be downloading unnecessary Mb.. But I can't think of a unified concept not to be one download, one install. So I think I will just do it.

WYSIWYG iridium is just about filling up resources with solid gray, resulting in flat, no depth windows. the "art" of UNO is that gradient on the toolbar, like original unified windows. and i know is not easy to achive that with all those macosx theming limitations.. UNO stands out! imho. (Version 1.2)
| Dec 20 2005 |
MICHAEL PIPOLO If you are speaking of the grayed out window titles in iChat, Address Book, QuickTime, Calculator, MacTheRipper, the Safari Downloads window, etc., then yes... this is the one annoying issue with UNO. I hope it's fixed someday, but it isn't a major problem. I have tried Iridium as well and UNO stands head and shoulders above it (IMHO). It's just more consistent and Iridium is too close to white. The UNO gradient is simply beautiful. Now I just wish Apple would hire UNO's developer for the Leopard GUI!! (Version 1.2)

ERIK K VELAND It works just perfect, the only glitches are: - iSync and Safari loading animation have a faulty background - Adobe Illustrator CS2 tool palette corners seem to be missing No show-stoppers though. the universal unified look is definitely where Apple should be headed for Leopard! DCE Only after sending a suggestion to the developer (which I now feel like a dope for doing) did I realize that a separate app, iTuno, is needed to apply the Uno theme to iTunes. This is made clear right up there in the description, but I suspect many people click first and read the instructions later. That said, this is a wonderful addition to OS X. While I wasn't particularly bothered by the wildly different windows used by the operating system, the unified look of Uno is nonetheless refreshing. If only on a subconscious level, it seems like everything is less cluttered. What's really great, however, is having a consistent look for the widget management dock. That perforated aluminum stuff looked quite strange on my iBook! (Version 1.1.1)

ERIK K VELAND Perfect for a unified GUI that Apple sorely lacks. I didn't know how tired I was of the old metal until I installed this on my iMac, used for a couple of days and then went to my PowerBook. It got an immediate UNO-treatment as well. There are very few bugs with this and as I normally hate themes, this is one I really like. Probably because it's made by Apple originally :) (Version 1.1.1)

ANONYMOUS Code plagiarism? Have you noticed that this is a theme, with graphics and stuff? The only code is for un/installing. As I understand it, Uno is based on Iridium. So do your own comparison. Iridium and Uno do the same job, but Uno is newer. Uno is more frequently updated, and has a tidier installer. There are still a couple of glitches, like Safari's rarely-used bookmarks view. The iTunes one mentioned elsewhere is impossible to fix without a rewrite of the -s-l-o-w- iTunes UI which won't happen any time this century. (Version 1.1.1)
