FORMICA This version seems like a nice app, but instead of having a text field where we can drag and drop a file AND can enter the file path (a.k.a. location) of a file to compress -- which is a time consuming way to do it, it would be better to have a text field where we can drag and drop a file and a BUTTON that would bring up an open dialog to find the file to compress, OR ALL 3. Otherwise, I like it and look forward to using it. (Version 0.821)

LEIFH "..., but instead of having a text field where we can drag and drop a file AND can enter the file path (a.k.a. location) of a file to compress -- which is a time consuming way to do it..." It's useful to be have the ability to type in the location if you need to work with hidden files. I agree the image drop was redundant so I removed it. Also you can go to file->open file or open folder. They also have keyboard shortcuts. (Version 0.831)

MSWFUJOWDFFYC The update function doesn't appear to work in .65 and the dialog displayed when you can't connect says "you're internet is down" when it should be "your internet is down." I suppose I could have sent this via e-mail to check if my internet was down, though. ;) Beyond that, I'm pretty happy with the application. I agree with the previous comment of writing the last used compression to the plist, and making it default to the same folder that the files/folder the user is trying to 7zip is in. Another suggestion would be to make the file name blank by default or make it the folder being 7zipped. Anyway, thanks for the great app! (Version 0.65)

BEAMY EZ 7z is a great 7zip tool. It would be nice if it would automatically save the 7zip archive (next to the file which you want to compress or to a standard location which the user can choose eg Desktop). It would also be nice if it would remember the compression level which you used.

KHIEBERT Thank you for this quick and easy program! I proved to myself that the 7za program bundled inside the app is able to create encrypted archives (e.g. EZ 7z.app/Contents/Resources/7za a -pPASSWORD path/archive.7z path/file_to_encrypt) -- will that feature be added to a future release? Thanks again! (Version 0.581)

ANONYMOUS Works fine most of the time. One major setback is that if you try to compress an app it decompiles everything so that the app is useless when you decompress from 7z. Otherwise it works OK I guess. (Version 0.41)

ROBERT MOORE I tried decompressing a 3.5 GB file to my second partition. Because there wasn't enough space on my startup disk (?), the process was aborted. The only way I found to workaround the problem was to move a thousand or so files across to my second partition as they appeared on my startup disk thereby freeing up space for the next batch. Very irritating. (Version 0.3)

MIKE Regarding the poll on the right, should tar format really be there, since it doesn't compress anything? (It mostly just wraps the files together. That's why the extra step of using GZip compression is often used.) (Version 0.3)

B I tried to compress a 162MB DMG and terminal ran 7zip and the output archive was 4KB's. So based on that I'd have to say something ain't working just right. I'm not rating this yet but I may have to give it a bad rating because there is no way to get a hold of the author. (Version 0.2)

JOHN VALENS That doesn't make much sense. Why would a compression system need to understand a file format to take shot at compressing it? What sort of algorithm is it if it's not treating files as streams of arbitrary bytes? The worst-case scenario should have been no compression achieved (or a compressed file that's bigger than the original), not a stub file that has nothing to do with the original, no? I have tested p7zip 4.2 on a 180 Mb compressed dmg file with no problems. It simply didn't compress much at all, as expected. (Version 0.3)
| Aug 22 2005 |
ANONYMOUS According to what I've been able to find out, this compression technology is free, open source, and superior to Stuffit for OS X. So, what I don't understand is why it isn't the default archive format for OS X? Then there would be no need for everyone to install Stuffit! (I hate Stuffit!) (Version 0.2)
