SEBEHK I think the dev team finally nailed it. A lot of the video glitches and slowness issues are now gone. I have been reverting back to version 0.9.1 every time because of the glitches and slowness. Version 0.10.2 is definitely a significant improvement. (Version 0.10.2)

JAZZYGUY The default for viewing is set for Paris,France. It is virtually impossible to set it for your home location as the window with all the Geographical Settings will not scroll down properly . If your city is at the end (or middle) of the alphabet unless you have the balance of the day to attempt maneuvering to it yoou are out of luck. Consequently mine is set to view the sky under Paris skies. (Version 0.10.1)

JAZZYGUY Very different version of Stellarium. On my G5 with 6GB of Ram and a Radeon 9600 Graphics card it brings up some strange stuff before it settles down. I am not sure I like this GUI as it is more than a little confusing. For exampleI used the search box to search for Saturn and what I got was the horizon and nothing of Saturn that I could find I zoomed in and out with my mouse but found nothing of Saturn.I am loath to rate it at this point as I am not familiar with it as the previous versions. THEBRIX2008 It launches and works ... but on my MacBook 2.2GHz there are masses of artefacts on the configuration windows (not on the main screen, which works as ever). No crashes, but it is often hard to make the settings, particularly when dragging scroll bars. The clumsy configuration bar of previous versions has been replaced by a neat floating L-shaped bar in the bottom left of the display. Its icons are far better designed than before and the font is clear (Helvetica) - it is just a shame it erupts in glitches whenever it is used! (Version 0.10)

SANS DIEU RIEN Astronomical! It's free! I finally pulled myself away from the program. It's just plain fun tinkering with Stellarium: you can customize even the sky view by downloading your own panoramic pictures! As an added bonus, there are various cultural constellations such as the Inuits and Koreans. The interface can be a bit awkward (press m + arrow buttons to modify more features, etc.). But once you save your locale and other information, just sit back and explore. I can hardly wait to submit my own panoramic view from my rooftop. I hope in a future update there will be more historical facts regarding celestial bodies. Stellarium's forums are loaded with helpful tips where you can upload other views, etc. It's worth checking out, even if you're slightly curious about astronomy. (Version 0.91)

UMAROMC Stellarium 0.9.0, Universal 2007-06-06, r2229+macosx support This is the really final release build of Stellarium 0.9.0. 1. You need to be running Macosx 10.4, preferably not 10.4.7. Drag the Stellarium.app icon from this .dmg window to your mac, and double click on it there to run it. 2. You don't need anything else for this build, it is all bundled inside. 3. If you had an earlier version of Stellarium set to start in full-screen mode, you want to remove your earlier configuration file. As listed in the Known Issues section, this version of Stellarium does not run very well when started in full-screen mode. Simply move the file: ~/Library/Preferences/Stellarium/config.ini (That is: in your home directory, the Library directory, then the Preferences directory, then the Stellarium directory, the file called "config.ini") to another location, or to the trash. Stellarium will copy a new config.ini file that starts in windowed mode. 4. An issue with mis-directed shared libraries discovered for the Intel architecture has been resolved. There are four star catalogs included with the build, and additional star catalogs available from the Stellarium website, the "Extra-data-files" package. Each star catalog file listed there you wish to add to the stars available can be placed in: ~/Library/Preferences/Stellarium/stars/default Up to catalog 6 has been tested on a PPC iBook with 750mb RAM, and there was something of a performance hit. The more RAM and the faster processor you have, the more stars catalogs you will be able to load. 0.9.0 right now cannot *start* in full-screen mode. It can start in windowed mode and toggle back and forth to fullscreen mode. This seems to have to do with OpenGL and Qt, and it will be investigated in future releases. The video mode list of the config screen has no options in it, the switch to Qt has made that display obsolete. It will be resolved later. About half the time when quitting, Stellarium will crash on glDeleteTextures. It will show a "The application Stellarium quit unexpectedly" dialog. This does not seem to hurt anything, but there is an order of destruction that needs to be corrected in future releases. ATI cards in Macs are known to not support point sprites properly. If you run Stellarium, but don't see any starts whatsoever, edit ~/Library/Preferences/Stellarium/config.ini, add this line: flag_use_gl_point_sprite = false to the [projection] section. This build does not include all possible star catalogs. Details about how to download additional star catalogs separately and make the available to Stellarium will be forthcoming. There is no audio support in this build. (Version 0.9)

UMAROMC Very cool-now supports 16:10 ratio resolutions in configuration window by defaultâbefore this version I had to "Show Package Contents..." and find the INI file to place the specific parameters for 1680x1050 because changing the setting in the program to 1600x1200 within the program's configuration window would cause a blank screen to appear the next time I'd launch.

PENNYHEAD Got it to work by downloading the correct files (SDL_mixer.framework and SDL.framework) but my computer freezes up during the loading process. Waiting to hear from developer. (Version 0.8)

RICH S As noted by follerec in reply to O5220803, this was an oversight by the developer. You also need the SDL_mixer.framework, available from http://www.libsdl.org/projects/SDL_mixer/ Give him a chance: a) this is free, b) when no-one else would port the project to Mac, he did. Version 0.8.1 will be out soon, so hold your horses. Note that the config file has changed its location slightly from the previous version. Version 0.7.1 stored it in ~/Library/Preferences/stellarium.ini, whereas 0.8.0 stores it in ~/Library/Preferences/stellarium/config.ini (Version 0.8)

FOLLEREC Based on forums on Stellarium.org, it seems that the framework SDL_mixer is also required (available at http://www.libsdl.org/projects/SDL_mixer/). This wasn't mentioned in the README file. Install it the same was as the other two SDL frameworks. Hope this helps others. (Version 0.8)

STEPHEN314 This application is a lot of fun! Some fun things to do: -Use it to find object in the real sky (of course) -Zoom in on a planet and you'll see its moons/structure -Make it go fast and watch the procession of the sunset as the seasons change -So thats why they call Norway the "land of the midnight sun" -Contrary to another review, the program predicted several eclipses down to within several hours. (Even the Aug. 3 -430 eclipse). It even shows the darkened landscape. If you want to change your location to watch a total eclipse, change your time zone in system preferences to London (GMT or UT) time to approximate the astronomical data. I noticed that the innacuracy of eclipse time is about 5 hours at -430 and 1 hour at 1932. Perhaps due to the extreme accuracy needed for these predictions? Could this be fixed? It would be nice to be able to get out of full screen mode. (Version 0.7.1)

MISCHIVO It's very nice because it's free, but it has it's faults. Firstly, what's the point of being able to choose the date and such if the function doesn't work correctly at any given date? I tried to project the Greek skyline of August 3rd, 431BC, at 5:22 PM--and not only does it fail to show me the eclipse that took place at that moment, but it also screwed up at displaying the correct time (It was night at 12:00 hours!), but I also had an awful time of trying to actually dial up that specific date. Hmm. This program _is_ still in its infancy. (Version 0.7.1)

UMAROMC Okay, I figured it out. I have a 16:10 ratio screen, these ratios are not options in the GUI for a setting but CAN be set BUT you have to right-click on the app, choose "Show Package Contents" and fing "config.ini" Here you can set screen_w and screen_h. I changed it to 1680 and 1050 and the app launched again like expected. I'd originally chosen 1600x1200 and it hadn't launched afterward...
