GIRAFFE6044  I too upgraded with the Adobe Updater without any problems.

OZEAN  I used Adobe Updater and it worked without any problems. This is in 10.6.1 set to English on a MacBook Pro 2,2.

Also, saving as Adobe PDF finally seems to work. (I never got it to work reliably after updating to 10.6 where there is no Adobe PDF printer anymore. Now we have the Print > PDF > Save as Adobe PDF function, which had big problems - hopefully my impression that those are fixed now is correct!)

SANCHAI  Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.2 update fail to upgrade 9.1.3 to 9.2 properly. Same failure as mentioned above.

The error dialog read "Update failed. The patch has failed because the application has been modified since it was originally installed (for example, plug-ins may have been disabled). Please go to the Adobe support website for more information regarding how to re-enable disabled components prior to installing the patch. Or, you can install and reinstall the application, and then reinstall the patch."

Adobe Reader update to 9.2 run fine. I have seen this failure in many places around the net. Caome on Adobe here you go again. New update that work please!

FILCHESCAT  Same here - error message about having modified the Acrobat Pro 9.1.x file and messing around with plug-ins. NOT. Sounds like a bad update app. I downloaded a similar update directly from Adobe's site - same results. Did a lot of un-installing / re-installing with the same results. Come on Adobe.

ERIC WOEHLER  Forgot to mention - running Vanilla install of CS4 - no plugins removed, no language files removed, no modifications from original CS4 installation other than Adobe updates to 9.1.3!!!

Just tried the updater on a second machine [mirror door G4 desktop) (also unmodified CS4 install) and failed to upgrade: ".. application modified, plugins disabled.." yada yada yada. Negative Adobe - CS4 DVD install and fails to upgrade...

is anyone from Adobe reading this?

MACLOVER1.1  PAst few updaters I got the seemingly common error message (unable to isntall.. change plugins.. blah blah). It tried everything: reinstalling, logging form a different user account etc.. no it will not update... it scares me for my setup mostly.. because seriously I hardly ever use Acrobat... but what is this error that so may seem to encounter and that is so "mysterious". ADOBE wake up... you are annoying us. Can't it be more precise.. error, like what has supposedly changed form my original install.. when I have just reinstalled like 2mn prior ???! Oh I get it my clock has changed its numbers lol

AWADO  I've been using (or should I say 'trying'?) this app for several years now since version 7. Version 7 was the only one, that seemed to be stable. 8 (updates incl.) crashed very often and sometimes even forced me to reboot. Considering the price this is very frustrating. The demo of version 9 is not much better. It crashes upon quit. (Regardless of any activated fonts or extensions!)

NIKO0929  I've downloaded Acrobat Pro 9.0 for mac several times now, and none works more than 1 day. It worked fine the first day I installed the program, but crashes every time I open a pdf file. It won't stay open more than a minute. Does anyone know how I can fix it. It is very frustrating that I can not even finish reading articles.

ERIC WOEHLER  Just tried to run updater after running the "Repair Acrobat Installation" option under the Help menu in Acrobat. Ran the repair ok, 'repaired' the Acrobat printer (which had been working just fine, thank you for asking), then tried the updater. Same old message, plugins removed, app modified, etc etc

So - it looks like I have to reinstall CS4 to update Acrobat from 9 to 9.1. Or I could remove Acrobat from my mac.... hmmmm.. what to do, what to do...

ERIC WOEHLER  Updater fails to update. Message "Update failed" claiming application modified, plugins removed etc etc etc

Same old same old garbage from Adobe. The app is vanilla, unmodified install straight off my CS4 install disc and the updater fails. Garbage garbage software. How is it that Adobe can get away with this?

Updater tells me to reinstall original software then run updater - its the same for M$ Office - reinstall the software to update it.. Huh? What is this? Windoze world??

Hello - is anyone from Adobe listening?? I spent big bucks on CS4 and I can't keep the software up to date? Honestly, does Adobe think they will keep their user base with behaviour like this?

MANICHE  I've purchased the upgrade online yesterday. I've tried to download the "Adobe Download Manager" about 15 times since, and have only "managed" to download 150 MB out of a total of 507 MB: the Akamai applet seems to be buggy ? Or their server is stuck ? The download is awfully slow most of the time, and then stalls for no reason or even freezes the browser (Firefox, Safari, you name it)... Oh, yes, maybe it's my mac: only a Mac Pro 3 GHz with ADSL connection. DE QUI SE MOQUE-T-ON ??

D9  I refuse to give this program any credit when Adobe continues to rip-off Mac users w/ versions lacking the equivalent features in the Windows version...and charging the same price!

Bottom line for Mac users is that this version adds little in new features worth upgrading from Acrobat 7 or 8. Save your money and screw Adobe!

AWRC  I feel much the same - the inclusion of Livecycle Designer seems to be the primary reason for the existence of the top-end Acrobat versions, and it sounds like a technology I'd love to experiment with, but they continue to leave it out of the Mac version with no explanation - while heavily plugging its capabilities in advertising and putting "*Windows only" in teeny-tiny lettering at the bottom of the ad.

Without it, there's next to no justification for even producing any of the higher-end versions on the Mac, let alone producing them and selling them at the same price as for Windows.

While I'm sometimes puzzled why the use of Livecycle-enabled forms hasn't taken off, it'd be ironic if it was because it was primarily Mac users that found it of interest - I seem to recall that on Windows there's already a capability to do something similar in Exchange/Outlook/Office environments, so there's little motive for anybody using that to look at Livecycle. End result - lack of interest because the product is only available on a platform where it's competing with an existing solution from Microsoft, and unavailable on the platform where it might have a chance of making an impact.

DANA SUTTON  I think some of these guys are too hard on Reader, it works fine on my first-generation Mac Pro. But I must say, I am surprised that Adobe released this picayune maintenance upgrade on the very same day that they announced the availability of Acrobat v. 9. I would have thought they'd have put out a coordinated Reader 9 instead.

Of course Adobe STILL does not provide proper package installers. They need to shake down their developer team...get some new blood that knows how to play by the Apple guidelines.

ERIC WOEHLER  Doesn't find the earlier version of Acrobat to install

I have 8.1.1 installed as part of CS3

Installer does not see Acrobat 811 as a valid app to update. I have had so many problems with Acrobat Pro 8 (CS 3) to the point where I question the worth of all the stress. Most of the time Acrobat doesnt launch, crashes on startup, or crashes during use. I have vanilla OS X 10.5.2 and this is the one app that gives me grief.

Adobe needs to do some serious work on this.

ZWAZ  I'm running Acrobat 8.1.2 on an imac core2duo / 3 GB ram / Leopard, and there is only one conclusion: it's - um - kind of working, sometimes, but it's sluggish and crashed each time I used it on my . Especially optimisation features are slow enough to make you use it no more.

Each release of Acrobat is getting worse and more innefficient. This is one of the wors updates I ever installed.

By the way: Apple Preview does many jobs more efficient and uncomparably faster.

TURNITAROUND  I updated to 8.1.1 pro. It failed to launch after a restart of Acrobat Pro, and an error mentioned some missing files... I had run DeLocalizer a week prior to free up some space, 1.3 GB!

Acrobat needs the Chinese fonts that are removed using DeLocalizer.

I ran the Adobe updater utility found in the Utilities folder. It reinstalled those fonts.

Everything works fine now.

Hope this helps!

MUTZ  This piece of bloatware is almost unusable on my quad processor, i have pitstop professional 7.2 installed to output certified PDF's for our printers. Adobe has finally made this almost impossible, frequent crashes and unresponsive application is the result. Luckily Enfocus has launched Neo a native PDF viewer for the graphic people under us.. (but it needs some more work)

STEF300  Needful from time to time when Apples Preview does not work, e.g. for certain forms. However, the way this application keeps reinstalling itself, setting itself as the default reader for pdfs and ignoring the users (previous) preferences is _disgusting_. Furthermore, the application is bloated and contains a bunch of (minor) bugs. Both seem to remain over the last versions.

PERPLEXED  While attempting to do "Create PDF From Web Page" The update Manager popped up for update to 7.0.5. After download and install; this feature would do only one layer of URL but No further. Checked settings, and all applicable choices, with no resolution. Have never had any issue at all with this feature in previous versions. Have not researched how to find or revert to older un updated version of Acrobat Pro or want to spend the time analyzing the solution. Not my Job, I paid the multiple hundred of dollars for an Adobe geek to figure it out and am looking forward to a quick resolution in anticipation. OS 10.2.8 So far I believe 10.2.8 should stay away from any Tiger updates. This was the first Tiger update I installed by not paying attention and now I regret it...

VALENTIN RODIONOV  Don't hope for the 7.02 update to fix the infamous "Invalid color: colored pattern specified with uncolored pattern colorspace" bug on Tiger.

Two months after 10.4 release, the bug is still not fixed. Adobe's "helpful" support article (http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/331663.html) suggests just to clear the system log. Even this workaround recommendation is inadequate, since following their procedure WON'T clear your logs. You will get A LOT of grabage in your logs in no time if you leave Acrobat running.

If you use Tiger, I suggest to stick with Preview for now... It has less features, but it gets the job done, it is free, and it is a much more solid piece of software than this... err... stuff from Adobe.

ADOBE TECHNICAL SUPPORT  The current "Acrobat-Pro_702_Upd_Pkg.dmg" is a 99,5 MB file.

I converted it to (.dmg, read-only) and compressed it with bzip2. The resulting file is just 11,7 MB. This means you download 87,8 MB for nothing!

Nice work, Adobe!

STEVE  v7.0.1 killed Safari's ability - or at least slowed it down to a ridiculous crawl - to show pdf's. I'm not sure what has happened, but Adobe Acrobat for Mac has seriously decreased in quality recently.

Why is Adobe Acrobat Reader so significantly slower than Apple's "Preview"?

Also - a 100MB updater?!? Certainly there is not 100MB of NEW stuff - can't they just 'update' the parts that need fixing without a complete replacement? Not everyone enjoys a T connection or superfast broadband.

JIM  Ah c'mon guys & gals! adobe makes good stuff! Ya some programs need streamlining once or twice but overall the quality is there. Acrobat is fine.If you don't want it to show up in Safari then use preferences settings or say "No" when asked to use it as plugin within Safari when first installing.

This is fairly no brainer stuff folks. It's like do you want to use Preview or Acrobat? How hard is that to set up?- not very.

D9  So is this version worth the upgrade cost from version 6? I can't seem to see a worthy reason, at least for my needs (document conversions to PDF and simple forms).

I wasn't to impressed with the 5 > 6 update except for a bit more robust distiller. In fact, I'm disappointed in the horribly slow load times for 6; but I don't see that justifying the upgrade costs.
