using text edit

and change this part

searchPaths

...

/Users/nst/my_doc_path/

where it says nst i put my user log in name for my mac and the doc path i changed to my folder where i downloaded the java api from java.sun.com. took me a good few tries and a visit to http://seriot.ch/JavaDoc to figure it out.

ANONYMOUS  I've never been able to get this to work. I've checked the path in the plist file and it exactly matches the real location of my java doc folder. I am also using a fresh install of tiger, and had not installed any prior versions of this widget on this new machine.

Docs are where they should be, yet the widget can't find them. I type something in the widget and it is just totally unresponsive.

NICOLAS SERIOT  JavaDoc uses Spotlight. If it doesn't work, it might be because Spotlight is currently indexing and so can't be queried (you mentioned you were using a fresh installed machine). In that case, remove JavaDoc from Dashboard and open it again when Spotlight has finished indexing.
