KEN RANGEN  After just buying the Doorstop Suite a couple months ago, I just can't reallly see a reason to upgrade at 40 bucks a crack. Guess I'll look around for something else.

CDSS  This would be a fine product but for one thing: for some reason, it makes access to the websever running on my machine hideously slow. As a web designer, waiting over a minute for a page to display is simply not acceptable.

****.

DAVE BURBANK  The product is excellent. It's nice to FINALLY have Doorstop as an option again. The $40 (introductory?) price seems far too high. Maybe it's because I already paid that much for the OS 9 version of Doorstop which I had to abandon when OS X was released. And because I paid $34.99 for FireWalk X because there was no Doorstop X for such a long time. Anyway... it is an excellent product. I'm clicking "No" for "Recommend DoorStop X Firewall?" only because of its price -- I can't in good faith recommend it to my friends and colleagues. At $29.99, I'd consider it more of a value.

LEO OF BORG  Hmm. What these guys want to charge for Brickhouse does for free.

Brickhouse is well documented, and combined with Little Snitch (outgoing network filter) and Henwen (a -real- Network Intrusion Detection System), now you have REAL control over OSX's already world class network security.

This app looks so OS9. OS9 is not OSX.

MACMAN  If I recall correctly, there remains strong demand for some forms of OS 9 functionality to be moved over to X. That includes a nice, simple interface. This app adds functionality over the built-in firewall, but is not MEANT to be a Brickhouse or NetBarrier. It says what it does, and does what it says -- very well.

If you're a Unix Geek who prefers an interface which hasn't (if you'll recall, DiskWarrior performs some highly-complex functions, yet maintains an elegant, simple interface) been well thought out, be my guest and go for it. Brickhouse is certainly more configurable, and has its digital demographic. DoorStop is similar in that regard. Brickhouse, despite its functionality, could use a major facelift. DoorStop beats it hands-down in that department.

So, in short, your criticism really doesn't apply, as the target audience/market is not the same.

SJK  Brickhouse has been $25 shareware for as long as I can remember. Where did you get the idea it was free?

ANONYMOUS  at/near the bottom of this page, it states:

"I'm of the opinion that people will either pay shareware fees, or they won't. You may use BrickHouse without registering it until you feel that it is worth $25 to you."

So, no it isn't free but yes you can use it as if it were, if you want to ripoff the developer.

ANONYMOUS  Its a bit underhand to suggest in your programme that if doorstop is not running your mac is unprotected.

What about the built in firewall?

Whilst we are on the subject what exactly does this software do that the firewall does not? Apart from some nice looking icons there doesn't appear to be anything different.

ANONYMOUS  You sure didn't write the book on networking, download speed of 0.7kb here on a 1 meg connection.

Sort your servers before showing off!
