ALJUK  Display of web pages is very flaky. Some pages are displayed properly, others appear minus their CSS styling. It seems quite arbitrary which do and which don't - even from the same source site.

ALJUK  I've been trying to set this app up to my liking for a cpl of hours now. It's promising, but buggy to the point of being unusable for me.

What I liked about this over NetNews is the "boxes" (basically, category tabs). This is a plus for me, as I want totally separate sections for News, People, Web Development, Flickr feeds etc. I ran into a snag whilst trying to change the order of these boxes. They simply won't rearrange without the app hanging and requiring a force-quit, or when I quit and restart the app they come back in the old (wrong) arrangement. Then, when I finally set up all the boxes I needed by adding them in order, some of them were off the screen. This was ok (I thought) since a couple of scroll arrows appeared. But... they don't work, rendering several categories inaccessible. Likewise, if the screen is shrunk, the scroll arrows disappear altogether. This may just be an oversight, but to me it's a massive one, and negated the whole reason I might be tempted to switch from NetNews, which is rock solid and has never hung on me. Even NetNewsLite (free) is better at this point. If this aspect of the app were sorted out, I'd be tempted to switch.

MACFELLER  Within an hour I have decided to dump NetNewsWire (even though I did pay) and will now give up on Vienna ever being what I want. I love the ability to have some feeds be complete web page and some just the little content. Sure in Vienna and NNW you can drag the individual description into the web pane, but that's well, a pain if not necessary. And if you want to then load the whole page you don't have to mouse to another pane, just click the link right there in the content pane. My chief issue with Vienna is lack of a toolbar. There is another version of Vienna that does have a toolbar but that's klunky to my mind.

E2 is fast, stable, customizable (you can actually have 4 panes), and free (though I will be donating soon). It needs some documentation for folk less geek.

MACFELLER  That version of Vienna is "developmental." Reading the forums reveals the final version will look better; developer is not interested in GUI esthetics so much as functions. There is an even better "3rd party" toolbar type GUI which might be incorprated.

MACFELLER  Yes, that is the GUI that is being considered. Well, at least the Vienna team and the GUI's developer are emailing.

ANONYMOUS  I was really into Ensemble but 1.0b5r3 doesn't work for me. It opens, but will not display a viewer window, nor will it allow me to view preferences. I can close it, so that's something. hope it ges fixed soon. Please provide a non-brushed metal option.

PHIL  Looks promising, but I need two features is lacks:

1. The app only displays the web page if the description is missiing. I want the option to see the web page without having to launch Safari.

2. The items list cannot be sorted by status, i.e. whether it has been read or not. This means that in a long list of news items, I have to search for the unread ones.

ANONYMOUS  Not bad, but there are very few features, it's a bit slow when browsing through a feed, and the interface isn't all that attractive. It is promising though...
