O5220803 This add-on makes handling attachments in Mail.app a breeze. The author is be commended for developing this enhancement to Mail. It gets rid of Apple's messy handling of attachments in their, otherwise, superior eMail client. Attachment handling with Mail Attachments Iconizer is truly a breeze! O5220803 Sadly this plug-in does not work with SL 10.6.2 and Mail 4.2, when Mail attempts to load Attachments Iconizer 2.1.5, the following message appears: "Mail has disabled the following plug-ins: Mail Attachments Iconizer Contact the makers of these plug-ins for versions that are compatible with Mail 4.2 and Message 4.2." I hope the developer will fix this problem soon, because AI is a very useful addition to Mail.app.

It was long time ago that I looked at Mail.app - I'm totally pro apple but i find mail is "to small not worked out at all". So many functions for automation and customizing aren't there... If you watch the rules for mails... so little possibilities. But a few weeks ago - I need Mail for automation my E-mails. Want to applescript my workflow and then it's better to use mail. But I had troubles with the attachments. (.txt) I knew there where in the past a lot of problems with mail and attachments... (.eps and .ps where real mail problems) That's one of the reasons I changed my email software. I'm using Mail Attachments Iconizer 2.1.4. and without any problems. It's even stronger for me... Without Mail Attachments Iconizer I don't use Mail !!! Then I can't do anything with it !!! Clean install - easy and very clear to me. I can choose what to do with the attachments... These functions aren't build in mail and YES it should be. Also possible to say show or not show from the file size. nice. I see one smart post in the comments and that's about the terminal. OK that's also possible but I like to do it with an interface in mail and that's what's Mail Attachments Iconizer is about. No terminal needed and it does what I need. not more / not less Will give more feedback when I have done more with mail and tested all functions of Mail Attachments Iconizer. GLANGER Follow-up to earlier post. My Mac guru buddy was needed to fix this. Apparently, Adam thinks it's cool to make his plug-in invisible so you have to go through a whole drill to remove this garbage. Adam buried the instructions on his website. Nice, Adam. Btw, want to iconize your non-iconized attachment? After it pops up in full in your email, right click! There, you're iconized. Please send the money you would have paid Adam to the charity of your choice! Don't like being this critical, but I find Adam's behavior to be atrocious. He cost me thousands of dollars today and really pissed me off. Adam, why would you do such a crappy thing? Please ask your parents if they think you are behaving properly. You clearly need some help.

ANONYMOUS Greg (and others interested in the developer's reply), see my reaction to the original post by "GLANGER". Just briefly regarding your new comments: Plug-ins are not stand-alone applications, this usually makes them visible only in the application they work with (Mail in this case). Iconizer creates an entry in Mail's help menu and preferences. That's where you can find help (on removal and all sorts of other things) along with the Read Me file accompanying the software and my web site. I believe this is pretty standard. As you have said, you can turn attachments into icons without Iconizer, but you have to do that for each attachment MANUALLY AFTER it has already been displayed full-blown. Iconizer does that automatically based on your settings. On top of that Iconizer has several other features you could have discovered by reading the Read Me, the help, or by looking in the preferences. Anyway, thank you for sharing your opinions, Greg! As I have said, any feedback is valuable for me, and you are right that the installation/removal procedure could be improved. I will consider adding the possibility to remove Iconizer right after installing, so that those who have installed it (somehow) unintentionally don't have to look in the help or Read Me. | |

GLANGER I downloaded but don't believe I ever installed this program. When I opened "Mail" this morning, a pop-up told me I had an unregistered copy and that if I didn't purchase the product or emove the plug-in, the pop-up display would start every time I open Mail. I can't find the f'n plug-in using the name of the program or lokiware. I have no idea what plug-in it is. I googled the developer, but there is no info re contacting him at his lokiware site. This is ridiculous. My mail program now won't work at all. If I am being ignorant, please correct me. I think this is BS. Who the hell is Adam Nohejl that he can screw up my computer and work environment to sell his overpriced product which, I've been told, does nothing that Mail can't do already. I've been iconizing attachments very nicely using Mail only. This totally stinks. Adam - why do you not have any contact info on your site? Do you like screwing people over and messing up their ability to make a living? Why the f don't you tell people that you will hold them hostage once they download your program? If anyone can tell me how to find this plug-in and get rid of it, I'd really appreciate that. Thanks.

I am sorry for the problems you have had with Iconizer and I hope you will change your opinion after reading this. First, let me clarify a few things: 1. There is no way Iconizer could be installed just by downloading. You must have launched the installer and then clicked the Install button. After you did this the button changed to "Remove". 2. My e-mail address can be found on the top of the front page at . It is also of course included in the Read Me file accompanying the software. 3. Iconizer can be removed with one click either from Mail Preferences or using the installer. As it is a plug-in there is no visible item in your Applications folder. The removal is described in the Read Me, in the help accessible from the standard Help menu (and on my web site). There is an "Update and Removal" tab visible right after opening the preferences and there is a "Remove" button visible right after launching the installer. 4. If your Mail program will not work and you believe it is caused by Iconizer, please contact me! I am willing to learn the details and help you! 5. Iconizer does a lot more than you can do with Mail alone. However, if you haven not read the Read Me or looked at the preferences, you may not have notice. BOSSA-NOVA One week after my review (see below) the developer wrote me saying he was on vacation and that's why he didn't reply immediately. All right. It took the developer ONE month to solve the problem I had but he did it! And because I'm not a monster and don't want to "destroy" somebody's business I'm writing this posting now. Yes, Mail Attachments Iconizer works fine! But I still think such a small application should actually be free or cost 5 dollars, the most.

LEOOFBORG If you think programming is so easy or that the app should be $5, maybe you should code a plugin yourself? For me, this little plugin is worth three expensive cups of coffee to a guy who does the heavy work. I wasn't having problems with the plugin myself, but I thank the dev for making fixes. I'll take what I can get.

BOSSA-NOVA I bought this app. I have a MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz with 2 GB SDRAM under Leopard 10.5.4. When Apple Mail is open and a message with Attachments (for ex. photos, total size 3.4 MB) is selected CPU activity of Apple Mail rises up to 99% and the fan goes on forever. That was not so before installing MailAttachmentsIconizer. I deinstalled the app and Apple Mail is fine again. I emailed the developer but never got a reply!

ADNO Dear SAL.T.NUTZ, the hidden DisableInlineAttachmentViewing option you have mentioned is unsupported and undocumented. There is no guarantee whatsoever that it will work as you expect. Even in the current version of OS X and especially in the future ones. I actually know about several problems it causes in OS X 10.5.2: - It breaks the stationery feature. - It breaks any rich text (HTML) message that uses attached images in its layout. - It makes it impossible to print attachments from Mail (even after viewing them inline manually). Additionally, it doesn't work in the same way as Mail Attachments Iconizer. Attachments are still sent in the same way with this option enabled and there are no fine-grained settings or the more specialized features found in Iconizer. It is of course up to anyone's judgement whether to use it or not. Just make sure to back up all of your data before experimenting with unsupported settings.

INSOMNIC This plugin offers functionality not present in Mail and provides a much needed way of dealing with attachments in a convenient way. The new customizations are very nice to have and it works with the new Stationary feature in Mail 3.0. The cost is well worth it (and there is an "upgrade" discount for current users). This was the first plugin for Mail that I got when using Tiger and it was one of the first that was quickly revamped for Leopard. The developer is quick to respond to issues too. An excellent product.

Without Mail Attachments Iconizer there's no option to *prevent* attachments from displaying, you can only turn them to icons manually *after* they have loaded. Please read the Read Me or try it before commenting or explain how it's integrated in Tiger's Mail.

ADAM NOHEJL (DEVELOPER) As far as I can tell this is not a feature of the upcoming Mail application in Tiger. According to Apple website Tiger's Mail will strongly prefer previewing attachments directly in messages and I haven't heard of any option to disable this behavior. I'll install the Tiger developer preview soon, try it and update this plug-in to be Tiger-compatible.
