DISPLACED Great bit of software! Beats digging through folders in Finder and the tedious task of opening a VIDEO_TS with DVD Player! There's only a couple things I'd change: 1) Delicious Library integration. It'd be fantastic if Matinee could pull cover art from DL... and perhaps let the user jump to a film's entry in DL for more information. DL already does great integration with Amazon, etc. so all the info's there to get, without reinventing the wheel (i.e. querying Amazon from Matinee). 2) More flexible UI. For example, I'd like the main window to be resizable, and have the whole UI scale with the resizing. (Version 2.3)

ANONYMOUS A truly useful and original app - not just another copycat program. Really, how many DVD catalogers do we need developers! ;) This developer found a need and filled it beautifully. (Version 2.1.1)

Can you enlarge the DVD Cover a little bit more. A little clean up of the interface. I suggest removing rip and the extra play button. Godd job man! (Version 2.1.1)

ZAMA It would be great if we could span movies in full-screen mode across multiple monitors. Anyone know if this is possible? (Version 2.1)

ANONYMOUS No problems with anything; what a terrific app! Plays from my firewire drive or anywhere else perfectly. I agree about making it more eventful when you have the dropdown menu for selection. This is a terrific app, celebrate using it and making your selection with some fanfare!

ANONYMOUS Great app, but I miss having the Matinee or PlayPal icon on the left of the main UI. It gave it a bit more personality than just a drop-down list in a window. It's just too plain this way. (Version 1.3)

ANDREW Matinee seems like a nice little app, and detects my VIDEO_TS folders on my internal hard drive. I recently ran out of space on my internal HD and started ripping DVDs to an external Firewire HD. Matinee doesn't seem to be able to get DVDPlayer to play the VIDEO_TS folders on the Firewire drive. I get an error message reading, "Oops! There was an error when attemting to start the movie 'U_571'. (This is most likely caused by a problem with DVDPlayer.app or the DVD drive...)". Any help on this would be appreciated. (Version 1.3)

ABRAHAM Please send us a message using the support page of the Matinee Web Site. This will help us gather some information about your OS setup and try to track down the problem. http://matinee.dizandat.com (Version 1.3)

as observed elsewhere it does what it says it does perfectly., and makes it very simple to access DVDs. Only thing I'd like... having it phone home to see if there's an update ! If you're serious about putting together an OSX based Media Centre this has to be a part of it ! (Version 1.3)

ANONYMOUS To dev: hate to do that to you, but in the icon's illustration (very nice btw), the accent should be on the first "e" not the second... (Version 1.3)

MICHAEL SIDORIC This is the kind of program you always wish someone would write. Instead of fumbling around trying to launch and configure a movie -- just launch, select and GO. WOW. This is the kind of software that makes using a Mac so wonderful -- and tip of the hat and THANKS to Abraham for his vision and talent. Matinee is a must-have for any harddrive based movie buff. ANONYMOUS "Mommy what's porn?" "It's why the internet was created Billy." Is your kid on the internet? They'll find porn sooner or later, it's just part of life, get used to it. (Version 1.2)

ANONYMOUS This post was meant as a satirical reply to a previous reviewers comment. But apparently MacUpdate's wacky review scripts decided to post it as a separate review.

ABRAHAM markflo - just for you there is a new application icon (well, not really just for you). Andreas Lindkvist was kind enough to create an icon just for PlayPal. Version 1.1.1 features this icon for both desktop/finder and GUI use. Please download. (Version 1.1.1)

ANONYMOUS HA! Cute icon. :-) Maybe *TOO* kid-friendly? Some people are just never happy... Thanks. (Version 1.1.1)
| Dec 9 2004 |
ANONYMOUS The new icon is okay, though the original seemed more logical for the app's purpose -- i.e., a playbill. Still, for copyright issues alone, the new icon's a good interim. (Version 1.1.1)
| Dec 8 2004 |
MARKFLO If it's "Simple enough for kids" then maybe a more kid-friendly icon is in order, eh? "Porn for freaks?" Thanks for the app, though. (Version 1.1)

ABRAHAM Yeah, trying to get a "real" icon done... know of anyone that will donate their services? (Version 1.1)

ANONYMOUS It's the Kill Bill image and has NOTHING to do with porn! I agree though, that a better icon would help it out. (Version 1.1)
| Dec 8 2004 |
ABRAHAM What do you think about the new icon? (Version 1.1.1)
| Dec 8 2004 |
MARKFLO If you actually went to the web site and viewed the full-size icon, it said "Porn for freaks." Yeah, and the Kill Bill artwork was on it, too -- that's more of a copyright issue than a kid-friendly issue, though. (Version 1.1.1)

- You don't have to navigate in and out of folders every time you change movies. If you can't figure out what a program does, don't review it. (Version 1.0)

ABRAHAM Thanks for sticking up for my app guys! I personally find it very handy to use and in version 1.1 you will be able to specify the directory where you keep your movies stored in (if they are on a seperate drive or what not). (Version 1.0)

ANONYMOUS I don't see the point of this application. You can easily do the same thing with the DVD player application that came with OS X. Just click on File > Open VIDEO_TS file and open the one you want. What makes this app any different? (Version 1.0)

MARKFLO The difference is that my 6-year-old can use it to watch his movies -- all by himself. :-) Plus, it's free, man -- if you don't want to use it, THEN DON'T USE IT! (Version 1.0)

ANONYMOUS Because YOU don't see the point, you give one star to ease of use and stability. Man, I hope they don't let you vote at the presidential. Oh, wait, they did... (Version 1.1)

ANONYMOUS I'm not a 6 year old... which is maybe why I can't make it work ! I point it at the root directory where I've backed up some movies (so there's a title directory and in that a video_ts and audio_ts directory) and although PlayPal lists the movies I've got stored when it launches... but when it kicks off the DVD player I get an error because the folder doesn't contain an object (or something similar... I'm not at that machine at the moment) the idea is great but for the moment I'm stuck using the DVD player capabilities :( (Version 1.1.1)
