G3 ENTHUSIAST  I have a G3 OSX (10.4), with 768 MB mem. and patchburn 4.0.5 running a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-112D on a firewire 400 port.

The unit was working fine until one day it would present this problem for burning:

BE Error - Sense Error

(02h,04h,08h) Not ready

Logical unit not ready, long write in progress

Thinking the unit broke, I checked it with another mac and it worked fine.

The firewire ports work fine with external HD and all other gadgets.

The burning process just stops, the busy light stops blinking but the unit seems to have the disk spinning for a while until it stops and shows the error.

I have guessed that the firmware of the unit may be faulty. Can it be updated?

Thank you for any insights.

MOK.IN.TOUCH™  The downloaded zip file is good for relaunching desktop. Every time you click on it, it just relaunching your desktop for you and nothing else.

Can't even contact the developer coz his email is 'closed'.

This is crap!

MOK.IN.TOUCH™  Every zip file in my machine opens without issue except just this one. I have downloaded it 5 times from different sources and it reacts the same.

Why?

SCROOP MOTH  PatchBurn used to work beautifully on my g3 imac. After I updated Tiger, however, apple dvdPlayer stopped opening. It used I've to play video TS files and discs on my firewire dvd drive. But now dvdPlayer presents the message, "There was an initialization error. A valid DVD drive could not be found [-70012]"

I've deleted the old PatchBurn file and installed PatchBurn 4.03, but the error message still appears whenever I try to open Apple DVDPlayer.

I'm sorry I donate to the developer when PatchBurn was working. I will if I can can figure out how to make it work again.

ANDYJ4577  I used Patchburn 3.1.6 on my G4 Dual 1.25GHz MDD running OS X 10.3.9 and it now recognizes my PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-111D. Unfortunately, all the menu items in Apple's System Profiler are now in German, how do I change these back to English?

JUKI  I've got a 5 year old Powerbook stored in a closet; haven't used it in a long time since i upgraded to a newer model. It doesn't have CD burn capability, so I acquired a Sandisk external CD burner from a friend; it's also about 5 years old.

Installed PatchBurn 4.0.1, hooked up my Sandisk burner and voila!, Cds burn easily and without problems.

PatchBurn is really simple to use; integrates seamlessly with my PB's OS. It's a real class act.... Kudos to the developer!

ATTENTIONWANDERED  If i could give this more then five stars i would.

It saved me mucccchhh money and time and lets me finally burn cds quickly and effectively.

i used some magicspin cd burner i got from radio shack and it works flawlessly, burning full speed with toast and after restarting my computer a couple times.

its funny how the cd burner is bigger then my entire mac mini though

ETNIER  Patchburn fixed the problem I had wherin moving to 10.4.3 meant my optical drive would eject recorded disks.

Can't contact the developer. Does anyone know if I have to do anything other than run Patchburn again when installing a new optical drive??? I have one on order

RYAN  Great hack -- works perfectly on my system. I'm using iDVD to master DVD's, then saving them as disk images to burn with Disk Utility. I've got a LaCie burner (actually manufactured by NEC) connected via FireWire. Works great. Thanks!

SUBLINEAR  Weird -- My DVR-109 was able to burn 8x DVDs at 12x on Panther (with PatchBurn), and I get the same results under Tiger (without PatchBurn, since the drive is now supported by the OS it seems).

PAUL  Panther version with a PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-109, enables Finder writing but at 1x only and that's with decent media.

I'm getting Tiger soon, so I'll see how the drive is treated under 10.4.x

regards

NEED AND USE IT  I simply cannot wait for Apple (look at how Tiger is direly in need of 10.4.1) and have opted for this patch as it recognizes and actually allows me to burn a backup of my iPhoto photographs using my older HP dvd 100i. I, for one, am thankful for this patch!

ANONYMOUS  Patchburn vs 10.4

Ok now that 10.4 seems to pick up on drives.. which is better, 10.4 lets me burn from the finder at 8x max, my writer can do 16x, would patchburn do a better job and let me burn at 16x?

ANONYMOUS  I think the problem is the Media you're using, not drivers. For example with matsushita uj-825s (Powerbook) and matsushita uj-825 (imac G5) i can only write 2X using no-name DVD-R. But with TDK media i could write 4X DVD as it states. (Maybe it's a firmware issue i dunno).

Hope this helps.

ANONYMOUS  Of course, not everyone is rushing to install Tiger. I know for a fact that my DVD-RW drive is supported under Tiger, but I'm still running 10.3.9. In time I will upgrade to Tiger (probably around 10.4.3, once most of the worst problems have been ironed out, and all of the software I use regularly has been upgraded to full Tiger compatibility) but for now I need PatchBurn.

ANONYMOUS  Since apple changed it's "uncertified drive policy" with MacOSX Tiger there is support for almost every drive in 10.4. So why would I need PatchBurn anymore, (though it did a pretty good job before)?

A. DENG  Really very good. If only the patch can make the IDVD work, that will be even greater: I have a Samsung CDRW/DVD SM352B Drive. It is now working with iTunes however the iDVD still does not allow me to burn the DVD project. I know this is not a problem of PatchBurn but if you can work on that...

ALLAN VS. PREDICTOR  Great stuff!!

Easy and simple to use.

Makes my brand new DVR-108 work with my mirrored-drive-door G4 (but unfortunately, the burner doesn't 'fit' in the cabinet; if putting the burner inside the computer, eh, the disc-drawer won't open, but software can't fix that problem, heh). Apart from that hardware-problem, I can recommend a DVR-108; it works after using PatchBurn.

DALE  (give valid reasons to backup your claims) I had what is probably the same problem that you are having with my MDD G4 when i installed my Yamaha CRW-F1E. just the top corners were catching, and I rounded them with a sharp knife. Only 'minor Surgery', and it has been just fine for 2 years. It was only the top corners that required rounding. I had placed it in the bottom slot.

EPH  I already have a compatible burner in my G5, but Patchburn allows me to modify iDVD so that I can make a DVD disk image instead of burning to a blank disk. I can check out the DVD before burning, or burn to a DVD-RW, which iDVD will not allow me to do.
