PEN CUCKOO i'm afraid i have to agree with some of the previous posters. when BPE works well, it is a joy to use and a great looking application. unfortunately it is incredibly unstable and seems to either hang or crash at the slightest provocation - often requiring a restart of the computer, as it tends to take the dock and bluetooth down with it. if only this application performed as well as it looks, it would be a real winner! PIRX I just switched from a Sony W890 to a Nokia E71. BPE effortlessly accompanied the switch, lists reliably the available services and uses them without fail. Another DWIS-SWID software: Does what it says, says what it does. Very happy. (Version 2.1.2)

MONDELE I really want to like BPE. I do like it when it works. I love the way it pauses iTunes when a call comes in, and the way it pulls the Address Book data for the incoming number. However, it is so unstable that I didn't even play out the 14 day trial. Having to force-quit an app several times/day is unacceptable on a work machine, and it makes the program useless for me. I even found that I would try to use it and find that I hadn't restarted it since it crashed previously. My experience seems to indicate that it crashes on making or receiving a second call, although it sometimes bailed on the first one. I seem to recall this same problem the last time I tried this program, a year or so ago, so that also discourages me from paying for it. (Version 2.0.12)

BEBDABHRHBRWEFG 3R§5Y5H4WTEDSFB there's a lot to like about BPE - or at least there was in version 1. back then it was one of those apps which was always running on my comp and i used it to archive all my important SMS and log my calls for a year or so. with version 2 however, i find i rarely open BPE. part of this may be to do with the fact i have a new phone with a lot greater storage capacity, so i don't actually *need* to back up as much as i used to. but a lot has to do with how clunky and irresponsive BPE2 is, compared to version one. BPE2 seems to constantly generate errors while transferring SMS across. every time i open it, it marks as unread dozens of messages i've already read [with no way to 'mark unread' multiple messages at a time]. i see the spinning beachball constantly and have to force quit it at least once or twice during every session. dragging messages into folders, the interface is jerky and unresponsive and seems to lag a second or two behind, so i'm forever dropping things in the wrong folder, because the one i was hovering over when i released the mouse, is no longer there by the time BPE wakes up long enough to react to what i'm doing. altogether a disappointing upgrade. i wish i'd stuck with version 1! JAHVE I've and BPE user since the first version but is so far very satisfied with the upgrade (free for registered users). BPE2 adds plenty of interface polish and a many new features as syncing with the phone's records of calls, Bluetooth talk-through and profile setting. I don't think there is anything of value application cannot to compared to its Windows equivalents. This is the application SonyEricsson should have bundled with my phone. (Version 2.0.3)

SUPERTHEMAN There is no way to try out this program, because you have to purchase it to even TRY it. Then, on top of that, on the developer's site he tells you have to buy a code to use the beta, but he tells you not to buy a code just to try the beta. Sound confusing? It is. A shareware program should have SOME functionality to try it out, especially when you have no idea if it will even WORK with your phone, and even more so when the program is a BETA! It feels very greedy that a developer would allow NO try-out on a BETA program. (Version 2.0b2.1267)

After that I could launch BPE, but still error messages appear. NSInvalidArgumentException after launch. When BPE tried to connect my phone another error message appears - NSInternalInconsistencyException. It is unable to read messages from my mobile phone. :-( Something wrong with this update BPE2. BluePhoneElite allows me to do exactly that and the fairly modest registration fee is worth it to me. J. GREGORY HASS So far so great!!! I've used the tool for two days now and put it through its paces. Easy to configure. Easy to use. Great for an office environment where you might need to put a cell phone on silent. Instead, you get a beautiful pop-up ala a Dashboard widget or the control screen in iPhoto. You can log calls and attach notes to them. SMS is great! Perfect for when you don't have internet connection. Only wish is not related to app but to current state of Bluetooth. Can't use a paired BT headset and this app at the same time. Whichever is paired first wins. Talked with the developer and he indicated that it's a limitation of BT 1.1 and COULD be remedied in future revs of BT like BT 2.0... but we must wait to see. All in all a very nice tool. I cannot send texts longer than 160 characters. Cannot send texts in (supported) foreign language at all. The list of texts on the phone does not refresh in all cases, some messages it will update some others it will not even if I disconnect the phone and reconnect it. SIDDHARTHA This is the BEST bluetooth app out there for the Mac. Seriously, it works exceptionally well-I have a Motorola V600, which is only partially supported by Apple. With it, I get text messaging on the computer, iTunes automatically pauses when I get an incoming call, and the number/name is flashed up on screen. I can delete text messages, too, once I have read them. It connects without a hitch, and is well-presented software. The developer too, is top-notch-he emailed me a pre-release version to test with the V600, based on a few problems I had with it. Not only were they fixed, he got back to me within the hour with the fix This is ESSENTIAL software if you have a bluetooth phone (If it was combined with OnSync, I would have no need for iSync, which doesn't work too well with the V600)

ANONYMOUS I've had the same experiences... works really well with a T610 and when I reported an issue (not detecting when I walked away while on a call) I had a test version in a matter of hours (solved the problem !) It's one of those apps which are such a showcase of what Bluetooth is a good idea ... should be shipped with most phones ;) (Version 0.9.663)

this and Romeo are the best BT enabling apps I've seen. Would love to see them combined into one so I don't have contention with the BT connection. Then, of course, there will be a further clash with whatever app I finally find that will sync Entourage and my phone ! BTW... PB12", SE T610 (Version 0.9.654)

ANONYMOUS Umm, you can't just keep the old version on your HD in case you want to go back to it? If you're really that pressed for space, get a new HD! (Version 0.9.654)

RICH...! This application is outstanding, even in beta the beta stages, I use it with my SE k700i and 12"pb. What's even more impressive is the support and feedback I get when I countact the developer. Awesome service, well done...! (Version 0.9.636)

KDOG This is a handy application - hot on the heals of Romeo. I find it very useful to manage SMS and to be notifed of incoming calls while working with headphones. Two big issues for me - I have an SE T637 and BluePhoneElite never reports greater than 45% signal strength, when my phone shows max bars... is this reality or a miscalibration? Second, this latest releast (621) crashes in the SMS manager on my iBook G3 700, most noticeably when I'm deleting old text messages. Keep up the refining process and this should mature into a great application! (Version 0.9.621)

STEVE SMS works on my T68i now. Nice little utility. If it keeps improving and if it stays free, there will probably be a spot for it in my menu bar! (Version 0.9.606)

CLINT POTTS While I applaud this very cool upgrade to Blue Phone Menu and it is really very cool, I still have problems with the idea that BPE kills connections to Bluetooth headsets. I use the Jabra Freespeak and the moment I turn on BPE, my headset fails. The moment I turn BPE off, my headset works again. If you are going to make a Bluetooth product as cool as this one, it really needs to play nicely with OTHER Bluetooth devices. This fault precludes my ability to use the software that I crave. ARAGLIN Unfortunately, this is a drawback of the phone, not the software. Most, if not all, bluetooth enabled phones can only handle a single device connection at the one time. That's why your headset doesn't work while the Mac is connected... (Version 0.9.606)

BTLOVER Same as a previous poster. The SMS features in the eliter version are flawed. When searching[type-ahead searching] for the person to send the SMS msg to, the display preempts your search and suggests a recipient, but by the time your finished typing the correct recipient, the display is still stuck on the first entry it found, and doesn't refresh, so you end up send SMS msgs to the wrong recipients. Also, trying to enter a number directly to send the SMS, causes errors also, the display tries to format the number, and in so doing truncates what you've entered. And finally, if you select, compose new SMS, the software automatically creates a draft SMS in the SMS folder. So if for some reason you went to that screen in error and exited (several times)... You're Drafts folder will be filled with unsent SMS msgs. A better implementation might have been to only save the SMS if the user has already entered a recipient and actual SMS txt, the current save, just saves a blank SMS, by default. Everything else is Boss (basically the same as the normal version of the app, with more gloss). SMS broken. Reverting to non-Elite ver, 'til fixed. (Version 0.9.593)

LEOOFBORG This successor shows promise, but the new build .0.9.593 doesn't recognize my Nokia 6310i. Well, hope the error log report works... This author has been VERY responsive in the past. (Version 0.9.593)

STEVE I have been using "BluePhoneMenu 1.2" which is the software preceeding BluePhoneElite for several weeks now - it is GREAT! I downloaded BluePhone Elite and SMS features do not work. I've reverted back to BluePhoneMenu until SMS is working again. (Version 0.9.544)

BRANDON Why is the file in .zip format? Can you open that with StuffitExpander or is another third party program needed. If so, where would I locate one? Thank you (Version 0.9.544)

AZARK Because it's the format used by OS X 10.3 If you use Panther, you can make and open .zip in the finder. If you use Jaguar, and even in Panther, StuffIt handles .zip with no problem, be sure to have the last version. If you use a system ealier than Jaguar: Upgrade.
