VRH I was looking for a highly flexible FTP client that would allow me to access all the features from the keyboard. For example I wanted to be able to switch between single pane and two pane views on the fly from the keyboard. I want to be able to navigate the client entirely from the keyboard. I've used Interarchy for years and it's still a great client, but it seems to have gone a bit off track since it changed hands, and it doesn't have all the interface features I'd prefer. I also tried out Transmit, but that didn't fit the bill for several reasons. Yummy FTP is exactly what I was looking for and I got to pick it up on sale for $15 from the yummysoftware web site (coupon code is "ONLY15YUM")! The developer is friendly and quick to respond to questions. (Version 1.8.1)

MRCHIPS I had been using YummyFTP with Snow Leopard before this update with no problems. This is another example of software that "just works." It's always there when I need to upload or download from one of our servers, supports easy "drag & drop," shows you exactly what's happening during an operation, and is generally very easy to use. Highly recommended! (Version 1.8)

TFINDLAY I have been using YummyFTP for several years now and it continues to impress. Development has been steady and reliable. The developer is very responsive to queries and requests. I suppose most FTP clients have the same basic set of functions but sets YummyFTP apart is the implementation of these functions. After comparing YFTP with some of the other popular clients I have found YFTP to have the easiest to use basic operations of any. It also has some unique features and flexibility that make it my hands-down number one choice. Give it a try. Use it for awhile and you will see what I mean. (Version 1.7.2)

JAMIE THOMPSON I have used my share of ftp clients such as Interarchy but mostly open source software such as Cyberduck. Interarchy no longer supports Mac OS X 10.3.9 and is expensive. Of all the ftp programs I've tried, I highly recommend Yummy FTP. Yummy FTP is fast and stable on my Power Mac G4 450 MHz (AGP graphics) PowerPC computer and very fast and stable on newer Power Mac G5 systems. Yummy FTP is my ftp client of choice. SOOTHE YAY4MERLOT : I'm not sure why you decided to pick on Yummy. For example, does Flow or Forklift really bring anything new to FTP? No, and in fact as far as FTP is concerned those two 'new kids on the block' actually have far fewer features than Yummy, which has been around for literally years before those two by the way. Who, for example, was the first FTP client to bring Quick Look previews to the table. It was Yummy FTP. And as for reasons not to use Cyberduck, just look at PXQUIM's review below yours for one reason why. I'd MUCH rather spend a few bucks for an app that I can actually rely on. Your 'review' is not just 'a little harsh' it's totally unfounded. (Version 1.7.2)

YAY4MERLOT My 2 star rating might seem harsh since Yummy FTP is a genuinely solid FTP app. The problem I have with it is that it brings nothing new to the table. Why would anyone pay $20 or more for an FTP app like Yummy FTP when apps like CyberDuck, which have a better interface and an equally powerful feature set, are completely free? My hat goes off to the author for writing a nice app, but honestly, there is no need for another FTP client in the OS X market, and Yummy FTP doesn't bring anything new to the arena. PXQUIM Very fast at analyzing large hierarchies with hundreds of folders; it figures out that there is nothing to synchronize in a few seconds (if you allow "ls-R" in the preferences). Uploads reliably without failing in the middle or skipping files. Upgrading from Cyberduck, which somehow managed not to upload over 1000 files scattered over several folders. Finally, the price is right for such an utility. (Version 1.7.2)

WFM GREAT FTP software. The remote unpack feature saves so much time. It is the fastest at analyzing large complex file hierarchies, and the fastest at transferring files. I think the interface could use some more polish, but apart from that it is brilliant. Much better, and more reliable than Transmit.

SACREDBLUE Simply put, Yummy FTP is the greatest FTP software available for the Mac today. Beneath the application's simple yet elegant design lies a plethora of advanced features that any power user will appreciate. Some might see a $25 price-tag as a tad steep, but considering Yummy FTP is still cheaper than its leading competitor, it's hard to complain. The developer is incredibly attentive to his customers and certainly has a passion for his work. His support is top-notch and he's very receptive to suggestions from the community. Ultimately it was this sort of dedication that made me choose Yummy FTP over similar programs. (Version 1.7)

PROFESSOR_B I use FTP and SFTP every day, and I've used all of the other major contenders in this category, on all platforms -- Linux, MacOS, and Windows. Out of all of the clients I've tried, Yummy FTP is my favorite by far on any platform. Not only does it give the fastest transfers, it has a good and intuitive user interface, it is fully-featured (including "wachers" and "aliases"), and the developer is extremely good about putting out new versions. I recommend this program highly. Look no further for excellent FTP/SFTP/etc. (Version 1.7)

MAGENTIS I think Yummy FTP is an overlooked gem. Admittedly, my needs are rather simple when it comes to FTP'ing. I just want something that is fast, reliable and laid out well. Yummy is all of those things. When I would toss a couple thousand items into other clients, many choked up along the way. A few finished but seemed painfully slow. Yummy was always fast and complete. Also, Yummy can sort items with Folders on top. I can't stand it any other way. So it was a real relief to have that option. My only gripe is that the icons and buttons could use a refresh. They look a little dated and could use a better integration with the toolbars. But overall I'm certainly impressed with Yummy. (Version 1.6.1)

JOEYBOOTZ As a recent switcher from the "dark side" of windoze, I spent at least 2 weeks finding replacements for all my old software. Overall it was a painless experience despite my colleague's uninformed warnings that there "just isn't any software for macs" However, the one stumbling block came in the form of a good SFTP client to match the almighty WinSCP. I tried them all. More than once. I made a little spreadsheet comparing the various pros and cons. The ONLY app that comes close to what I need as a professional webmaster who needs to update multiple websites on a daily basis is YummyFTP. Transmit just doesn't cut it for the pro. Admittedly home users with a .mac account might be better served with Transmit. Even after paying for Yummy, I decided to check out transmit to see if they've caught up with what I need. But Yummy just keeps getting better and leaves the others in the dust. BTW - I give it a 4 out of 5 for features only because I'm comparing it to WinSCP. Which would get a 6. Transmit, a 3. DANA SUTTON I've reviewed earlier versions, so won't again (I gave it five stars across the board). Let me just repeat, if you are looking for a FTP client, this is the one. Go no further. Transmit doesn't have scheduled uploads, isn't Growl friendly, InterArchy's very idiosyncratic mirroring system managed to screw up my remote site but good, so I walked away from it real fast. I've stuck with Yummy, and the only time I ran into a problem the author was very patient and cooperative in working with me to solve it, which I greatly appreciate. Only drawback: unlike Transmit and Interarchy, Yummy can't handle WebDav so you can't use it if you have a .Mac account. Since Apple has recently upped its basic storage to 10 gb., .Mac begins to look attractive as a serious possibility for offsite backups, so it is getting rather urgent that the author address this issue in a future release, which would greatly increase Yummy's usefulness. YUMMY SOFTWARE LRKIRSCH : Just some points... 1. All of the free apps offered at Mac App A Day cannot be upgraded for free. Yummy FTP is no different. 2. Mac App A Day users who wish to upgrade to version 1.5.3 of Yummy FTP and receive free updates in the future can do so using the MAADUPGRADE coupon code. This will give a $15 discount, yes FIFTEEN, not $10 as you stated 3. Version 1.5.3 includes a number of important bug fixes. LRKIRSCH Thanks for the correction. I must have had 10 in my head from subtracting 15, and mixed up which number was the discount later that night when I wrote my comment. Sorry! =( Guess I can't edit my comment so I will reply to myself. I do think the discounted price is a great deal, even when I thought the amount was higher, and I hope many people buy a full license. I like your app better than Cyberduck, which is what I usually used prior to getting the MAAD license. I'm personally just not uploading enough recently to feel like purchasing an FTP app at this time. About the MAAD apps, I pretty much realized that. I guess the process with YummyFTP was just different and so I got my hopes up :) My last intention is to complain about free things :) (Version 1.5.3)

LRKIRSCH Do not download/install 1.5.3 or higher if you want to keep your free MacAppADay version. I was under the impression (my unrealistic bad impression :) that I was purchasing a full license with a 100% discount, but that license is only good with version 1.5.2. Perhaps I missed this fact when I registered. If you have the MAAD license though and you do install 1.5.3, it is nice that they give you a code for purchasing a full license with a $10 discount. Unfortunately I am cheap, and I didn't have much of a reason to go back to Cyberduck because I'd saved the download from MAAD, so I reverted to 1.5.2 and all is well. (Version 1.5.3)

PERLMONKEY I purchased Yummy quite some time ago and did not regret it ever since. The interface is very clean, external editors are supported, connections are always stable for me (ftp and sftp) and the synchronizing features seem great (granted, I only tried them a couple of times out of curiosity). So what made me choose this application over free alternatives such as Cyberduck? In short: The others crashed or didn't handle bookmarks as well as this client. I guess Transmit, Fetch and CaptainFTP are equally good but I decide to stick with Yummy for a long time since the support is really great. YUMMY SOFTWARE Mojolive - as you've emailed me many times before, telling me how things "just work" with Yummy and "just fail" with Transmit, I'm surprised at your post. To clear up the 'issue' with the password - the password can be stored in the Bookmark *as an option* but normally it is stored in the Keychain, just like Transmit does. ANONYMOUS Great features, interface is similar to Fetch/Transmit, and much better than Interarchy. Price is in the range of the others, but too much if all you need is basic FTP upload and download. (they should consider basic, $10 and advanced, $25 versions) I needed an FTP app that could sync with a server, and on a schedules. YummyFTP makes this very easy with powerful options. Just what I was looking for. Upon first few uses, I was not impressed with the stability. It has not crashed, I but lost the FTP window twice and the menubar twice. They just dissapeared. For instance, it has the ability to schedule automatic uploads to a remote server, so it functions just like backup software. Second, it is Growl-friendly, so it can give notifications. Add these two together, this is a real boon for people who maintain Web sites and update them frequently. Also, the author is very approachable and receptive to suggestions for improvement. ANDREAS LEY Finally! An FTP client that has everything I ever wanted. It's even faster than the Vicomsoft FTP Client (I need to transfer several thousand files often), much more stable than Transmit in my experience, and is very nice to use. And it has checkboxes for EVERYTHING you want to turn off or on, supports several editors, supports the common shortcuts for navigating in folders...I'm just happy. :) (Version 1.0.6)

ANONYMOUS Yes, Yummy does seem something like a Transmit clone, doesn't it? Except that Transmit has an "Immediate Connect to Favorite on Startup" feature which is really handy if you regularly work with one remote server. Maybe future versions will have some features that Transmit lacks, so I'll keep an eye on it, but as a long-term Transmit user I think buying Yummy would be like paying twice for one product. And yes, the icon is very barfy. (Version 1.0.6)

YUMMY SOFTWARE Yummy FTP also has the 'connect immediately at startup' feature: Edit each Bookmark you want to have auto-connect, select the Advanced tab and check the 'Connect automatically at startup' checkbox. Yummy Software (Version 1.0.6)

ANONYMOUS GREAT program, horrible name and worse icon. I pasted Vicomsoft FTP's generic-looking icon into it, and now my Dock looks a lot better. (Version 1.0.5)

ARON After using Transmit and CyberDuck for almost a year, i am happy to say that i can finally ditch both. Transmit (if you use it daily like myself) is full of small but annoying bugs, wont auto-resume transfers, can't be set to understand encodings correctly, and has really shitty queue management. CyberDuck is much better for downloading large amount of files, but it is slow, huge, java-based and not really good for mirroring stuff (like updating websites, etc.) So I was using these two clients (for the different tasks), and about a month ago i actually decided i might consider writing a new FTP client...that is until i came across this wonder. Really, Yummy FTP is, i have to say, the most impressive FTP client i have ever come across on Windows, Linux, or Mac...you can customize it to your needs, and its not bloated with a ton of worthless features (like Interarchy, etc). Its great for mirroring, for downloading large files, or for downloading/uploading a large quantity of files. So I registered it as soon as my trial was up...and I am very much satisfied. Thanks! (Oh and yes, the icon is a bit ugly, but i switched it, so thats no big deal.) (Version 1.0.5)

NICKSAG33K I've used Yummy FTP sense version 1.0.1 and the huge updates the software has had sense has made it the easiest to use FTP client available for OSX. Individual site preferences are awesome! (Version 1.0.4)

ANONYMOUS This appears to be built on Vicomsoft FTP client, which I used for years as the most reliable OS 9 ftp client. Therefore, highly-recommended, esp. for its Synchronize feature. Others (like Transmit) let you synchronize, but only Yummy FTP lets you filter out files and/or folders which should not be updated using keywords and wildcards. Very useful when updating CMS (content management system) directories, where some are for internal usage by the CMS. Well done. (Version 1.0.4)

KARINA The best ftp client I've seen on OS X, if I wasn't so poor I'd be buying it. Until then I'll enjoy what's left of my trail time and then go back to ncftp on the commandline. (Version 1.0.3)

LARAINE I like it too, Katrina, but will probably be returning to Cyberduck, which is very good for freeware but certainly not as nice as Yummy. Do try Cyberduck. It does everything I want (which is merely to upload my web pages to my server) and the only thing I wish it had is side-by-side columns of the files on my hard drive and the ones on my server so I can just drag the files I want to upload from the left column into the right one as with Yummy. MARCNYC When I switched to Mac and OS X I knew I had to find a good FTP software and the crusade started... I tried many, including Vicomsoft FTP [$35] (which stands out for its hierarchical views feature and claims to be one of the fastest FTP clients), Fetch [$25], RBrowser(Lite) [$29] (which has column views but not real hierarchical views), CuteFTP [$40] (if anything it wins the award for most expensive one!), Transmit [$25], Fugu [$FREE], Interarchy [$39] (large user-base, large price! confusing and with many features you don't really need if you just want an FTP client), osXigen [$20] and Cyberduck [$FREE]. I finally decide to go with Cyberduck because it was free, open source (it's always morally important to support open source), it was made by a Swiss guy (just like me! ;-)) and it simply works well and does most of the things all these other clients do. Cyberduck works great but lacks the hierarchical (or column) view feature as well as the preview feature (which I think only Transmit of the above mentioned ones has anyway). I used Cyberduck for months, until one day, I decided to look some more and on VersionTracker.com I read about Yummy and was impressed by the high user rating it had received... I tried it and, well, wow! If you are looking for a professional, fully-featured, fully customizable and powerful FTP client then Yummy FTP is a MUST for you! It is not freeware or open source unfortunately, but it's price is fair ($25 with a $5 discount for students/non-profit) and you really get a GREAT piece of software! I very rarely buy software (money's always tight) but if I do it must really be worth it, and believe me this was money well spent! Version 1.0.3 fixes some bugs I had encountered in version 1.0.2 (did I mention the upgrade came less than 24 hours after I told the developer about that bug?). Yummy FTP imports bookmarks from Fetch, Interarchy, Transmit, Captain FTP and Vicomsoft FTP. When I told the developer I was a previous Cyberduck user he pushed to include the Cyberduck bookmark import feature into the 1.0.3 maintenance release, so within less than 24 hours from my purchase I was able to import all my bookmarks. I am not saying you'll always get feature requests implemented this fast, but this certainly shows dedication and professional attitude on their side. This said, let me tell you about how "tasty" this software really is: - FTP and SFTP (secure FTP) are supported. - If you are used in your Mac to use the hierarchical view or the column view, this the first feature you'll appreciate, and it has BOTH views! - Another amazing thing is that you can preview most text and image (htm, php, jpg, gif) files from the server without having to download them first, which is a great feature in many cases. GREAT! - Of course (as you'd expect) external editing is supported with the editor of your choice (BBEdit is of course at the top of this list!) so you can simply open/edit a file from the server, edit it and save it (and you can even decide if the changes should be uploaded to the server when saving the document or when closing the document - another neat feature!). NEAT! - Easy and quick chmoding is implemented for single or multiple files (and you can even have special icons showing you what the file permissions are set to without even having to click apple+i for info). You can also globally apply permissions on files you upload before you even upload them. - Multiple connections are allowed. FINALLY! - Ability to view/hide or selectively filter hidden files such as .htaccess and .DS_store both on the server and on the local machine (which is awesome since you can't see/edit/create these files on your Mac unless you have a paid utility such as MacPilot installed. SWEET! - Folder Synchronization is supported as well! WOW! You can select if you want to update the server, update the mac or sync the two. It's all based on dates of course and you have the option of deleting files on the location you are updating if those files aren't available on the location you are updating from. I haven't tested this feature with other clients, so I am unable to compare, but it seemed to me that the process of analyzing the server (I was updating the server) was very slow... This was the first time, hopefully some info will be cached, but I doubt it. The worst part of this feature is that there is no progress bar and the uploading of files and folders isn't shown in the queue drawer either, which is too bad (not to mention only logically expected!). This said the feature itself seems to work like a charm (but I don't know if there are issues with differences between server time and local time). - The interface comes in Aqua or Carbon style. - Proxy servers connection is supported. - You can browse the server in a two pane window or hide the mac browser within the client and just drag and drop stuff from your Mac's finder. - Although I haven't tested it yet, the software has auto-reconnect and resume capabilities. Great! - What I am unable to speak of is its performance in terms of speed. I have done some uploads and it seemed fast but I cannot say if it was faster than average or not. Vicomsoft claims theirs is 30% faster than average (average being Fetch, Transmit and Interarchy) but they haven't compared their software to this and it'd be very interesting to do this. I spoke about this with the Yummy developeds and they seemed to be interested in publishing the results of some speed tests online (like Vicom did on their site). Allegedly Yummy has been tested against others by the company and its performance was comparable to Transmit and Interarchy on single files and superior when dealing with directory transfers. - If you are a techie/expert/nerd/curious/troubleshooter you also get a transcript window with all the server's commands and responses. And you obviously get a transfer queue drawer/window. - The only feature I miss (but I am really being picky and way too demanding now!) in Yummy is a button in its toolbar (or the ability to add a button in the toolbar) to switch from Binary to ASCII without having to use the drop-down menus (which is still handier than having to do it from the preference window, like in Cyberduck's case). But just so you know, you CAN customize the toolbar, just not to this degree. - And since I am being demanding, if I had to make another wish for future features I would ask for a preference that allows to view file's permissions in either "-rw-r--r--" or "644" in the browser so that one doesn't have to always look at the info of the file if he's not too familiar with the former way of displaying permissions (which in the browser is the only view you get, but not in the info panel). - The only important feature that Yummy does NOT support yet is Server-to-Server (FXP) transfers but allegedly it's high on their priority list so we might see it soon! - Many other useful features I forgot or don't even know about (ie don't know how to use or what they are for) are included too! In conclusion: It's worth your money, no doubt about that, and it successfully compares to all the other competitors, distinguishing itself for quality-to-price ratio and for amount of features, operability, ease of use and customizability. Long story short I am a truly satisfied customer and I recommend this software to anyone that wants to have what probably represents hands-down the best FTP client available in the Mac OS environment!!! Yummy software's motto is "software so good, you want to eat it. Yum!" and after using it for just a few days I must say I am hungry already!!! (Version 1.0.3)

ANONYMOUS Come on guys, we all check macupdate and versiontracker... the guy took so long to write this review that it seems logical to copy paste it on both sites. For once that a user writes a long review with something else than "it's great, wow" which is lame and brings nothing as an insight about the software. Anyway, in the worst case you can download it and see it for yourself. (Version 1.0.6)

ROBERTS2424 Really great with the column view. It is an improvement on Transmit (like why didn't they think of this first? Are they on break?) The price to purchase or upgrade is simply to high to justify. I'd switch for $10 but no more. I'm gonna wait and see. (Version 1.0.3)
