TOURNESOL  The missing sound effects is also a problem in the Windows version. I play that version at school and several times during a game its obvious that sounds are missing. Its as if the game only plays a few sounds on top of each other while other sounds just vanish. Just to let you know its not a Mac-only problem :)

JIM MIITCHELL  At first I was thinking this was going to be alot like my "Call of Duty" game. Same war--different game. (*please note: I am basing this review solely on the demo.)

BF1942 contains much less action per minute of gameplay than CoD. Big environments mean a lot of running or driving to get to the action. The tanks and jeeps are fun to drive, if a bit tipsy, an thats when you can find one. One major boffo--you run over an enemy, but he merely gets pushed along. Weird.

I loved the choice of unit. Assault, anti-tank, scout, (never tried medic--why bother), and engineer give a bit more depth-pf-play and replayability than CoD. Also, there are many commands available to give to teammates (but not real useful in demo).

Thankfully, this is not just another CoD shooter. It is different, but just as good. I can imagine myself owning both games and not being bugged by similarities.

I tested the demo on my eMac, 1.25 GHz, 512 MB memory with the graphics turned down. Gameplay was great.

ANONYMOUS  I agree with the first posters -- 'old 800Mhz' is in quotes, because the machines are only two years old (hey, that's about as old as this game)! if you've got the dough to 'pony up' every two years you're a spoiled rich kid! add to that the fact that Apple makes it hard to upgrade individual components, and you have to ask --- who are they hoping to sell these games to? Not most Mac owners.

Game is okay, but WTF?? No multiplayer? This is BF1942 right? As it is, demo is a bit lame. And buggy - makes you quit the whole game just to restart a campaign.

ANONYMOUS  Terrible demo, not featuring any online play, only one single player map. Definitly not worth the download.

ANONYMOUS  Is this a Battlefield 1942 demo (which I already own) or a demo for Secret Weapons of WWII, as per the description?

ANONYMOUS  I don't know what you people are talking about, this looks just like my PC version.

I see no reason to complain, especially if you are on old hardware. I'm happy to see games being ported to the mac.

MINDFLAYER  I've been playing the Battlefield series since it came out on my Windows PCs. This port is true to the original. The requirements are high, but then again, they are as well on Windows if you want the "full experience."

MINDFLAYER  It's the same way on Windows PCs. You want to play, you gotta pay. I know everyone in Clan ES has ponied up or are ponying up for at least a GB of RAM in their Windows boxes to play. Don't get me started on the video card madness, either....

ANONYMOUS  Good. You found out that your system is incapable of playing BF1942 and you didn't even need to buy a retail copy to find out. That's a good thing.

ANONYMOUS  I havent downloaded it yet, but im sure that if you use the ati graphics card software thing here that adds more functionality and options.

You could change the graphics to run in an optimised openGL mode and it would run quite smoothly.

In theory it should work because i can run CC generals and Call of Duty on my G3 900MHz and they both run quite well. Considering they say the minimum requirements are G4 and about 1GHz

MATMAN  I agree. Stop the advances in graphics, lets go back to sprites and blocky textures. Why should people with 800Mhz Machines miss out!

This is an outrage!
