PONY The application appears to use Java. It no longer works with the release of Java shipping by Apple. It uses depreciated Java calls and simply quits. Checking Console reveals [Deprecated] CocoaJava: com.apple.cocoa.foundation.NSRuntime [NSJavaVirtualMachine initWithClassPath:] FATAL: cannot initialize ObjCJava. CA. PDFLab did work fine on my system under OSX snow leopard for sever hours; it suddenly quit and did not even respond* - I really wonder where the bug is sitting. It is not the first application that quits service under snow leopard in this way. The same happened for instance with visual hub - I got this one to work using some tricks, from case to case. *it is not even visible when I look at the system's activity using "top" in the terminal. In the case of visual hub, there seem to be some apple script errors. In the case of PDFLab, I really do not know. what the source could be... maybe someone can help me. (Version 2.0.3r2)

DRDUL Yes, it works on 10.5.7. As Daniel noted, it crashes when attempting to add a file by clicking the icon at top left, but files can be dragged into PDFLab without problems. I used it to remove the password from a camera manual so I could add bookmarks (it's unbelievable that in 2009, manufacturers are still producing 150-page PDFs without bookmarks). Select the file in the PDFLab window, press Command-R and a new password-free version is created. Fantastic! (Version 2.0.3r2)

DANIEL PAGE I had it crash the first time I tried to add pages by clicking the icon in the program. I was able to add pages, though, by dragging them in from finder (actually leap). Hopefully it keeps working, I just made a pdf file out of a 63 separate .jpg files that somebody decided to scan a book as (Version 2.0.3r2)

KLAUSKINSKI PDFLab is still the best PDF-unlocker. It decrypted (unlocked) any of my "secured" (locked) PDFs by doing this: Drag a PDF onto PDFLab's list, select it there, and press Apple-R. The application then rebuilds the locked doc and saves it 1:1 as an unlocked doc. Even if it was protected by a master password etc.pp.! (I'm using OSX.4.11.) BTW: It is not illegal to modify your PDF data 'for your own use'. It is only illegal to re-publish or re-sell etc. copyrighted PDF contents that you have modified without permission. APPLEDOGX The watermark feature doesn't work on my Mac. (Intel/MacOS 10.4.10) I tried both text and image, and the file is always devoid of either one. Too bad. This is really just what I need to do. (Version 2.0.3r2)

RUBAIYAT You might have a look at how your .pdf is constructed using Adobe Illustrator's layers. Apple Pages files for some odd reason generate 2 white backgrounds and Acrobat detects only the 1st one and inserts the watermark just above that. The watermark is then hidden behind the 2nd white background. PDFLab maybe doing the same. (Version 2.0.3r2)

WHIT_G I've loved using this app until just now - it stopped working. I'm getting an error (OS 10.4.10) that says that it requires Java 1.4 and won't work with 1.5. I am using the latest version and just downloaded it again to make sure. Anybody else have this problem? (Version 2.0.3r2)

KSJAFWEMFA PDFLab does not maintain page size and orientation when combining PDFs. This dramatically reduces its utility for people who need to combine PDFs exported from Word that are split due to section breaks with different orientations. I have not tested different paper sizes within the same document. (Version 2.0.3r2)

JADDER Incredibly useful little app that comes in handy from time to time. It would be great though to see a preview of the page instead of generic file icon to know if it should be rotated first. But it's the easiest way I know to get a bunch of images and/or pdf files into a single pdf document. (Version 2.0.3r2)

STONELLI PDFLab still crashes when I want to add a pdf (either with drag&drop or with the "add" button). I have installed (and reinstalled) the version 2.0.3r2 and I'm running OS 10.4.8 Any idea why I can't add any files?

DR NO I was so excited to come upon this program. Unfortunately, most of its nice features do not work for me. It would not remove a blank page I'd added as a test; it would not add a watermark from a gif as it says it will; it would not get the page size and orientation right when combining pdfs created via my Canon scanner, its twain driver and Toolbox, nor with pdfs created in Preview from scanned tif images. Its prefs will not keep the selected printer, and on combining the aforesaid pdfs it ignores the page size setting and scales the images to 24% in landscape oirentation instead of the selected portrait orientation. It did properly combine several downloaded pdfs of government forms, presumably created with Adobe Acrobat. But to me that's useless. I'm running X.4.8. (Version 2.0.2)

PEANUT BUTTER 2.0 would crash each time I added files (10.3.9) after many months of perfect use. So i updated to 2.0.2 and it chokes when outputing pdf files created in Excel (office 2004) and some other random pdf files. Error message, "Processing Error: For some unknown reason PDFLab is unable to complete the process. Please hit cancel to close this window and try to retrieve the created PDF file from the Finder." The app opens up the temp folder and presents me with the "pdfoutput.pdf" file, which has worked everytime. A bit of an inconvenince. I still rate this a 4.5+ (and also donated to the author).

FRANSIK Rocks. If perfection would not be so close, I would miss the ability to batch fill the PDF-Info fields (i.e. title, subject, author, keywords, creator) in a similar way iTunes proceeds for MP3 tags, and, eventually, the ability to downsize the PDF files... (Version 2.0.2)

SWEETBLUE Terrific, fantastic app. As .pdf's becoming increasingly popular as the file-de-jour in today's e-business climate (at least mine: entertainment), this little jewel allows me to paste .pdf's printed from a variety of OSX programs, all natively formatted, in any order I choose, all into one, single document which I can then email away. It's like a digital Kinkos -- FREE. Sans cut trees. Sans shipping. Nice. (Version 2.0.1)

ANAME I will wait to review this app (at which point I will probably give it 5 stars), until the following little kink is fixed. At least for me (I'm using OSX 10.4.5 on a Powermac G5 dual 2.5 Ghz, 1.5 GB RAM), it always crashes when I'm trying to drag a couple of picture files into its window. And the same happens when I'm going through the Add File>Open dialog (albeit not seemingly exactly as often as it does when I drag and drop files. On a further evaluation, it doesn't seem to crash anytime, when I'm dragging actual pdf files, only when dealing with image/picture files, such as .jpg, .png, etc. It's a great app for sure! (And yet, it works flawlessly when consolidating .pdf files.) But I'd be very happy if this crash bug when adding pictures could be addressed. :)

ARVIDTP Really great. I love it. Very handy for papers with figures at the end - merge them all in one fell swoop! But sometimes PDFs go in with text that is selectable/copiable in Preview and come out with the text being no longer selectable as text in preview. It is selectable in acrobat reader, but who wants to use that bloated thing all the time? I just wish this could be fixed. Thanks! (Version 1.1)

ANONYMOUS 5 stars...yes...wow! This developer did for combining PDFs what Apple did for creating them from any application. I am amazed at polish of this final product, the ease of use, and the fact that's it freeware (donationware), considering how useful it is. The professional option, Acrobat Pro is a few hundred $$ and more painful to use for easily joining PDF files. A lot of developers make great tools for mac users, and we are thankful that they are there. This is one app that fills a void in a big way.

BRANDON This is a terrific, complimentary, user-friendly application! The only thing that would perfect it for my use is the ability to highlight and copy text (i.e. hyperlinks, email addresses, account numbers) within the saved PDF. I save most emails to PDF and like the having the ability to easily retrieve text from them instead of having to squint as I try to read and retype the text. Finding a way to allow hyperlinks clickable within the PDF would be a great addition as well. (Version 1.1)
