ORION MK. V  Schoolhouse IS nice if it doesn't eat your assignments (which it's done to me 3 times), whereas Assignment Planner works reliably. $8.00 versus loosing all your inputted info (or grabbing from backup)... priceless.

LAUGHFACTORY  I haven't tried Assignment Planner but probably will have to as Schoolhouse isn't working on my Macbook Pro. It crashes right off the bat, before it even loads up. Talk about annoying--and useless. It worked great last semester and was really helpful in keeping on top of everything, so I'm bummed that it has stopped working. Anyway, I need a decent alternative, maybe Assignment Planner is it. That's just my 2 cents.

MACMANIAC1987  Not a bad piece of software, it's easy to manage school stuff with. I was looking for something to manage my homework at the beginning of the semester, and this is a good option.

Things I think are well done:

The filtering by course is really easy to use and is a quick way to find assignments.

The GPA and Finals calculator is nice, and I would use it, except that it doesn't include support for GPAs that are not 4.0-based.

The program as a whole feels solid and performs well.

Things I think could use some work:

Only one file can be added to an item, which for me feels incomplete because I often have multiple PDFs and documents that go with an assignment.

Don't really understand if the notes feature is for lecture notes, as it doesn't have any ability for rich text or adding pictures or anything.

I like the calendar view, it allows for easy viewing of what is coming up, but it seems to lock up on me whenever I try to drag assignments between dates. If I switch to list view and back again, it is useable again.

The dashboard widget is nice but it isn't quite useable since it doesn't allow checking-off when an assignment is done, you have to launch the application to edit anything.

After trying this out, I think I will stick with my original choice, which is Schoolhouse 2 (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/21783). It has more features and is completely FREE. For a college student that's a godsend.

JEFF  The new version (2.0) rocks!

It's great to know that this developer is willing to help with any problems, and the program has really been advanced and polished since the first version I used. It's easy to manage all my courses' homework; I used this program a little bit in high school, and it also works great for my college.

If you need to organize your assignments, this is THE program to do it (and the price is negligable, even for a college student!). Try it out before you buy it; you won't be disappointed.

ANONYMOUS  Buggy, buggy, buggy.

Not ready fro prime-time. Event hough it is "free" it is not reliable enough to use for tracking my college coursework.

That being said, I think there is some decent promise here..especially since there is practically no software in this genre.

JEFF  1.3's new features are well-worth checking out! I'm glad the developer added importing, iCal export, and many other useful features! The developer is definitely open to suggestions - let him know what you want!

RICH  I have a serious complaint. (It's the only one I could come up with.) Next to Mail, Address Book, iCal, TextEdit and AppleWorks in the Dock, Assignment Planner's icon is flipped horizontally.

Fantastic app. I use it for managing projects at work.

JEFF  This is a really cool app, I attending NMSU and this program really helps me to organize my class assignments. It is really nice not to have to sort through sylabus after sylabus trying to find an assignment, now it is all in one easy to access place, although it could be made easier. I am excited to see what improvements will be made in the future.

JEFF  An *awesome* application!

I am very glad the developer keeps making it better. Since the first time I downloaded it (1.0) until now (1.2) there have been quite a few awesome improvements, and the developer even helped me with some problems I was having. Keep up the great work!

LOGAN ROCKMORE, DEVELOPER  You need to be sure to include the APDatabase.rbd file in the same folder as the application. In a future release, im looking to get rid of this problem, and it is the main reason that ive left it a beta for now. Thanks.

ANONYMOUS  Works good for me.

One suggestion. Can the completed assignments have a check mark next to it or a different color in the font to show up different in the all assignment view?

LOGAN  Yeah, im working on using colors in the table now. I'll likely do something like this:

Red: Due Today

Orange: Due Tomorrow

Yellow: Due in Two Days

Green: Completed

just so it is easier to see what needs to be done. Thanks for the input!

ANONYMOUS  Maybe a scheduled exams tab could also be added.

On startup im getting: "AssignmentPlannerDB not found"

Also i am getting: "An exception of NilObjectsException was not handled, Application must shut down."

Thats occuring when i try to add anything. Otherwise it looks like a potentially handy app to have.

LOGAN  This was a database problem that developed with version 1.0b. Go ahead and try downloading 10.b2 and it should be solved.

RICH  I'm a University lecturer - I'm making use of this right now :-) thanks!

Just one suggestion: a graphical view of due assignments. Maybe tweaked so that "far off" dates appear a little closer!

LOGAN  I'm working on a view different views for the Assignments tab, including a calendar and a list of assignments by date, so we will see what comes of that. Thanks for the input!
