SW_TESTER In a crowded market for this kind of software the one feature that makes Process good is network sharing. nice if it worked right! Your cursor moves if another user starts editing any of your shares. if you are typing at the moment the other user is typing then your typing continues in the new location that the other user is typing so it gets all messed up. multiple users can edit the same item at the same time which means data can get corrupted. Process does not use record locking. NOTE: URL source (ie attaching urls to an item) causes errors preventing sharing from working. If you don't set preferences Delete unshared project, and if you turn off your computer before the other user they will all of a sudden have your shared projects permanently in there Process. Plus next time you turn on your computer they will show your shared projects doubled. It's a nice product if they would just fix these problems that have persisted for over a year.

LUPOWILK Very useful simple application for anyone that have small business needs. - simple, user friendly interface - You can organize Your work in goal/ steps approach - simple sync with ical of the steps in Process (two options available as to do's or calendar items) - password encryption of every project - good price (specially when You buy with the bundle with Money and Relationship). This program is very flexible, and easy to lear to use. It matches my needs for a simple program to help me organize my complexed works or planning the achievement of my goals in the future.

I also sent an Email to the developer at Things. I heard from Things within hours. Still haven’t heard from Jumsoft.

TFINDLAY Way back when I used Process 2. Process 3 is a big step up. It has been working flawlessly for me and I am becoming dependent on it for keeping track of my project related tasks. I like the simple yet flexible way it lets me organize my projects. Linking and attaching files to project tasks is essential to me and Process 3 lets me do this with the ease of drag and drop. iCal integration is a big plus and is well implemented with two-way communication between Process 3 and iCal.

MACBLISS So far this app has been working wonderfully. Hasn't crashed once I might add. Favorite features thus far ... • Sources -- the ability to link files and urls to individual tasks -- and view web pages and other file types within Process. After using it for a few weeks, here's some features I thought might be welcomed additions (in no particular order): Flag option, like in Mail, Mori, Yojimbo, etc. Drag and drop capability of "transfer" command (an awesome feature by the way). Trash Can for deleted items. Manual option for Archive command, in addition to automatic. Nested Project capability, like tasks. Option to not include "transfer/cloned" items in smart projects. At present duplicates show up, which limits their usefulness. Custom project icons, like Journler has for folders, where you can add an image to represent its contents/purpose. Quick entry panel -- like Things, OmniFocus, etc. -- and/or a Service that can be used with Quicksilver, for easily adding items to a project, i.e., an inbox. Keep up the good work.

MACBLISS You guys rock. Nice job. Boy it was a long time coming -- but it sure seems worth the wait. I can't wait to get started using Process 3. It even has seem-less 2-way ical syncing! Yahoo! At 39 it's a steal. And with upgrades at only $19 you have got me sold without a doubt! This is one of the fastest upgrades I've every decided upon. I'm more than excited I can't tell you. If you are overly frustrated with the state of outing and task managers -- and don't want to compromise functionality for eye candy or vice versa -- give the new Process 3 a try. I am overjoyed that these guys have revitalized this app. The syncing problems of version 2 should now be a thing of the past. Boy, I'm sure glad I upgraded to Leopard. Thanks a million guys. You have made my day.

MACAHOLIC! While I freely admit that I like several aspects of Process, such as iCal integration (wish for Addressbook integration as well, please), it's Cocoa UI aesthetic, it's document linking IN THEORY), there are some precarious bugs with this app. File saving should indeed be automatic. And I have on occasions experienced it NOT saving when quitting, myself. This induces a high degree of mistrust in the application... and such applications REALLY need rock-solid dependability! File linking is inconsistent -- not from a bug perspective, but rather by design. The Process data files are in fact packages, and SOME file types indeed get "eaten" by Process, as they are moved into your data file's package. This is damned dangerous if you ask me. And, it's a little too aggressive o Process' part, thinking it can be-all and do-all as well as other dedicated applications. Process should simply utilize Finder aliases. This would make tracking of files that are moved, as well as being able to reference one file more than once within Process, easier. My Process data file is littered with broken links. Unless I am not using it properly, the iCal integration is buggy. When I try to set a future iCal event as an alarm, Process puts it in on the DATE CREATED. Also, you cannot fully search note contents; only "Item" (or event heading) text. This is a major problem, as -- at least as far as I can determine -- because a lot of data is "hidden" from Process' search function. I have many Items with the default not loaded with text. But, I can't search this text. Major problem. Also, it would be great if, while being able to preview web pages within Process, an option to "Open page in default browser" would be highly welcome. And yet, with all these problems, I have twice tried OmniOutliner... but have come back to Process. Process feels like a Mac application, whereas Omnioutliner feels like a Windows port. I really like its iCal integration... if I can get it to work properly. Process is in dire need of a major revision and ironing-out of bugs. It's potential is serious. OH! AND PLEASE JUMSOFT do NOT go the way of iCal/Leopard and eliminate the shelf. I absolutely HATE the way Apple changed iCal in this regard. WAY too many clicks/keystrokes to get editing on stuff.

AROBULACK Jumsoft is clearly a very ambitious company, considering their wide variety of product offerings. However, consider carefully before you lay out your hard-earned cash for any of them. The company's support is dismal, and they permit well-known and documented bugs to exist in their products for long periods of time (i.e. Process went for almost a year without a single upgrade, despite their public acknowledgement that several of its key advertised features were non-functional). This is a company that needs to take a step back and decide if they're all about quality or quantity. Currently, for them, it's quantity, and hence the quality of their products and their support system is very low.

CASCADEHUSH I would have bought this program, dispite it's limitations, if it was half the price. I love the implementation of the outline view of the project, and the ease in which you can add items, and make them into a heirachy. It is by far the most intuitive way of laying things out and navigating through a project. It combines the power of an outliner with the clarity of a 'Yojimbo' or 'Journler' wrt the notes pane. But here are the deal-breakers that are simply not tolerable in a $40 program: 1) When you drag and drop a file onto an entry, it imbeds a copy the file in the the process data file. You can create a link to a file, but you have to do this through the file open dialog. I hate the file open dialog and avoid it like the plague. Why should I have to re-navigate to a file when I already have it selected in the Finder. This could be fixed by a simple preference option to default to linked rather than embeded files. 2) It's way to easy to check and uncheck an item that contains sub-items. If you are partway through a project and have some sub-items ticked, and then by accident you tick/untick the main item, you lose track of what items are incomplete/complete. There should be an option to 'protect' item with sub-items, such that the main item only becomes checked when all the sub-items become checked. 3) You would think that double-clicking on a linked/embeded file would open it in the appropriate program (like preview, word, etc) but it doesn't. Failing that you would think that a right-click menu would allow you to do it. Neither of these options work. Instead, you have to select the item, then use the 'gear' button, select 'Open with' and then from the sub-menu, select the appropriate program. This is just way too convoluted. 4) You can't drag and drop URLs from Firefox. I know that Firefox doesn't use standard URL drag objects like Safari does, but surely it's such a popular program that it deserves a little work on the part of the the programmers to make it work. You can drag and drop a URL from Firefox to Safari, so it is technically possible to implement such functionality. 5) When collapsing an item, it would be nice if the due-date would reflect the most recent due-date of any of the sub-items. This way you don't have to open up the item to see when the next step is due. Then you'd be able to collapse all items in a project, sort and sort them by due day, without having to have all items un-collapsed. As it is, the only way to be sure that you can see when stuff is due is to have all items uncollapsed. 6) Autosave. All programs in this catagory autosave. It's the type of program that you just expect to store your data for you, because you have it open all the time. You don't want to have to be thinking about saving and managing saved files. I lost a bunch of data when I exited the program. Even though it asked me if I wanted to save, it actually didn't save the most recent data in the file. I found that I had to manually save regularly to be sure all my data was there. No doubt some of these items are peculiar to the way I want to work. But most of them should be easy to implement. Some of them are pretty basic common-sence issues or even expected behaviour (Autosave, default to linked file on drag, double click opens a linked/embedded item). As it stands i'm still using Journler.

MACBLISS I REALLY wanted to like this app. Process is nice eye candy and appears to be a highly usable app, but I admonish anyone from enabling the iCal sync. It will likely delete you entire iCal Calendar library. It happened to me (I'm glad I made a back up FIRST). How about an update that addresses the iSync problems ... mentioned by several customers, if you want us to invest in future development?

OLIPOWER As much as I hate discouraging the developers from working on an otherwise promising piece of software, I hereby join the choir of people who have lost data while working with Jumsoft Process. Therefore I say DO NOT USE THIS PROGRAM AS YOU WILL LOOSE DATA IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIME! Only use it if you regularly back-up your data;-) All of a sudden I could not open the program today, since it had somehow corrupted the file I was working on. I lost an essay, some ideas, and finally a school exam report (of which I have a back-up (RTF text-export) from yesterday, thank GOD!) ... And no, I've never received any response to the 3+ emails sent to two different Jumsoft email adresses (sales and info) a few weeks ago, concerning educational pricing ...

ROBV I made the mistake of purchasing Process 2.0.1 so that I could load all of my projects into it. Unfortunately, I quickly discovered that the program is buggy and will easily permanently corrupt your data, causing items to appear and disappear randomly. In my line of work, data corruption is a critical bug which requires my team to fix it ASAP - usually within a few hours. The developers of Process don't seem to share that level of urgency. I reported the bug to them nearly a month ago, provided my corrupted data file with instructions on recreating the appearing/disappearing data problem, and provided steps to recreate the problem. Since then I have sent several follow-up emails offering further assistance and requesting an update - all unanswered. I'd steer clear of this product until they confirm they found and fixed this corruption problem.

OLIPOWER I've emailed them twice during the last month, asking them about whether educational pricing is coming soon (they say so on their website) but I have received no answer. I feel less confident in the application when: You don't receive a reply. Weird customercare. Weird sales attitude;-/ All that said, I really think Process has potential, and apart from the occasional bug (they've sorted out most of the bugs by now), it's a nice, easy to use application with good power.

GTIE09 This is a really neat piece of software. I am it's the closest thing to project management nirvana i have seen in OS X. It has a nice project/outline 3-pane view -- complete with smart projects/folders ... well done. It's tight integration with iCal is a major plus. In fact without this, it's really just a simple outliner -- but one designed with special features for project management. Namely the multiple source files/urls it can have associated with each item. That is way cool. Yes, it has a few bugs yet to be worked out. And yes, the developer's don't answer your emails it seems -- or at least don't get to them right away. And yes, there are some needed features that could be addressed -- and hopefully will in future versions. (I'm placing bets that they do listen -- even if they aren't fast to respond). A few important needed features I can see after using this app for about a week. The two main ones: 1.) A Hoist feature (like OmniOutliner) and 2.) the ability to hide completed to-dos. Also, it would be nice to have a "clone" feature that could alias items over multiple hierchies. And it would be neat if the first source file or url would be linked to the ical URL field. Lastly, a true ALIAS manager for source files would top this app off -- quite nicely. Right now if you moved an attached file it breaks the link. And that's a bummer if you ever want to rearrange your files on your hard drive. Still, bar these shortcomings -- this app really is extremely smart -- and the best way to organize all your to-dos and projects in one place I have tried to date.

RPPHOTO This new beta 3 is far more stable than the last two betas, and iCal Syncing now functions without deleting all your calendars. It even seems to play nicely by relaying ToDos to iCal and then to High Priority in the menu-bar. Most of the other bugs I had noticed are absent in this new version. I love the UI, the linking, the SmartFolders, and the iCal syncing. A very useful and very Mac-like app that's fun to use (and you don't have to worry about unintentionally erasing calendars anymore).

JOSHWA My opinion is this little app has some real potential. Like others have said, the Beta is a little too unstable to really attempt to use in a realworld setting. The biggest thing it lacks is an intuitive navigation of columns using the keyboard. It forces you to use the mouse too much in my opinion. The developer would do well to review OmniOutliners methods for nagivating columns and creating rows quickly and easily. Again, I love the potential of this application. I think once the developer gets a few things figured out it could be one of my favorite apps.

ATHLETICSFAN Yeah, add me to that list as well. I had a backup, so it was no big deal, but annoying nonetheless. I sent Jumsoft a pretty nice email letting them know about the issue AND that I wasn't alone in my experience, pointing them here. I also suggested that it would be a good idea for them to pull this version until they get the issue fixed since it would help them prevent, what is obviously, a bug from ruining the reputation of a really promising application before it even has a chance to get a foothold in this particular software niche. I have yet to receive a response from them, which I find to be very sad. Come on guys, this is supposed to be one of the major new features!

M.GRIFFITH This is a great To Do List. Reminds me of In-Control which I loved. Hope this crowd develop and improve the product. Sync to Palm would be great. But it is very quick to learn and does all one needs and more to keep an efficient To Do list active on the Desktop. Sync with ICal does not work. This is a pity because one needs some way of connecting the information in Process with one's calendar management tool. Have tried exporting as OPML and then importing but this is a complex process. Potentially this is a great piece of software that could be more user friendly than many of the more ambitious stuff around. | |

ANONYMOUS I love the GUI from Process, but have to agree with some of the other comments on this site that there's room for improvement. - nice interface, quite intuitive - works great as a todo list - prefs are nice, love the slider and short keys you can use for priorities for items - nice that you can assign a password to more personal checklists There are some funny small bugs, • while typing a new todo, it sometimes jumps back to 'New Item', so you lose your info • indenting item with tab, collapses whole group, while you're still typing • formatting fonts doesn't work - 7 days demo is a bit short, 14 days would be nice I'm still hesitating if I will pay for it, but decided it's not yet worth the 25 dollars.

ANONYMOUS I'd really like to be able to try this out, but cannot get past the registration window. I keep clicking on the "Demo" button but nothing happens. The window stays in front and you cannot see the workspace. Thought this might be a fluke so I trashed everything and reinstalled. Same thing happens. Not to mention that I've had no response from the developer–and I e-mailed them with this bug over a month ago! Great way to support your product and establish a customer base! Sorry, but this bites!

--create new items & projects And as great as the UI is, I'm REALLY WARY of any application that defaults to saving in a proprietary data format. This is what XML & OPML are for. Since they didn't use a standard file format, I have to suspect: 1) the developers are amateurs who couldn't learn/didn't know about the standards 2) the developers are hobbyists/students who wrote their own libraries for fun, accepting lower stability 3) the developers are trying to lock users in to their application (Microsoft Office, anyone?) None of these prospects leaves me trusting the application or the developers. Sorry if it seems harsh, but lock-in is not acceptable. Charging people for lock-in is just wrong.

NIK Despite what it says, this is hardly a full featured outlining application (such as NoteTaker, NoteBook, OmniOutliner or DevonTHINK/Note). It's more of a hierarchical list with... well, stuff associated with each item in the hierarchy. These items can be text or Quartz/Safari-compatible file types. (Other file types can't be connected at all, which is something of a drag.) It has a fairly solid to-do list interface (with an annoying omission of AM/PM indicators on due dates and alarms, and a rather annoying alarm setup which includes browsing to a sound file and typing in a custom message for each and every alarm), and a very mouse-centric interface which is easy to understand but dangrous to click on without thinking first. (I set priorities on items pretty much every time I moved the window to the foreground!) Application crashed as soon as I did a search by "due date" and typed in "today." Managed to crash it a few more times after. Definitely a 1.0 program. It shows some promise, but it needs some greater stability and refinement. The ability to attach any file type to a note would be welcome.
