BENISJAMIN  Great program! I'm wondering if there is a way to flip on page at a time in the double page view? (ie. Pg1, Pg2 to Pg2, Pg3 instead of Pg1, Pg2 to Pg3, Pg4 if that makes sense)

FIBONACCIWORKS  Hi, love FFview but have had the same problems as the poster below. Try double clicking the voice recognition icon to close it, seemed to make all my troubles go away.

AIKOUSHA  I don't know what's going on with the way this is being developed... As it gets upgraded it gets less and less stable and loses functionality. I thought this was going to be the best thing out there for a manga fan, but it is now, with the current release, easier to unpack a 150 page file and load it into Preview, where I don't have a single problem at all.

Here is how it stands for me:

1. Reprogramming keys doesn't work right anymore. If changed, they just become non-functional and beep at you. I use the left and right arrows as default backwards and forwards, but if re-located these keys just stop working, period.

2. The image used to, every once in a while not draw the whole screen, now it is a constant. It draws only parts, leaving large sections as either black, or white, resizing the window sometimes works, but rarely. This happens in all view forms... Single/manga/american, 1:1/pagewidth/fullscreen. The parts left out aren't even consistent. If you come back to an image, often a different part doesn't draw.

3.Several image types that are now native to the Mac aren't supported (or don't work), like .bmp.

4. Using fullscreen (or near fullscreen) can be hazardous, as at some points the display area just freaks out mapping other parts of the desktop as twisted hash inside the display area. Resizing the window, larger and smaller, often gets rid of the "freak."

I want to love this app, but it seems to be dying slowly.

1.5GB G4 1.2Ghz AGP, Cinema Display, OSX 10.3.7 - OSX 10.4.7

If the image problems are corrected (and the key mapping fixed), this would get 5s across the board.

SHRIZZA  For some reason, almost half the time when I move forward or backward in a comic, I can see the little eye icon in the list view move up or down, but the comic display itself doesn't update. However, I can sort of force it to update by activating the magnifying cursor and moving over the page. Even then, sometimes only part of the page updates and I'm left with a lot of blank space. Resizing the window also seems to help with regard to forcing the update. This happens in all of "single", "western", and "manga" modes, and I've tested with many different types of comics from numerous sources. I'm running OS X 10.4.3 and FFView 0.9.6 on a 17" 1 GHz PowerBook G4.

SPIDER J.  this is my favourite comic viewer. is the best by far for macs. but alas, ffview 0.9 and this new update don't work on my G3 500 mhz imac dv. all i get is a black screen. do you need >8 mb video ram for the new rendering core?

still, keep up the good work. i just have to stick with the 0.8.5 version. this one works fine on my girlfriends emac.

GEOFFREY  This is the closest I've found to that classic Windows viewer, ACDSee 3. There's still a few things I'd like to see:

- voice recognition disabled by default

- pre-rendering of next image (I *hate* having to wait a couple of seconds for the image to render after I've hit 'next')

- better image scaling, specifically the ability to grow the viewport dynamically on a per-image basis, and to only reduce an image resolution if it is larger than the maximum allowed window size.

- directory awareness: open one image in a directory of images, and then be able to navigate between the entire directory's contents

Here's hoping all of the above make it into v1.0 :)

FUNNELLPD  Ran into a couple of minor problems when using FFView, however the developer was reasonably quick to respond to them. Could definitely use some improvement, but is already hands-down the best app for viewing manga-type material on the Mac.

BCWINTERS  This is the best viewer for cbz/cbr files that I've found yet for OS X. It's certainly much faster than Comical, that's for sure. It does still have a few issues--It's a bit of a pain that voice recognition gets turned on by default and that preferences are split between a standard preference window and a set of menu choices (for instance, to turn off the aforementioned voice recognition, you have to deselect it from a menu as well as go into the prefs and tell it to remember your settings from launch to launch).

In addition, the Image List is somewhat unintuitive. Select All doesn't function there, and hitting Command-A turns off antialiasing in the viewer instead. When you finish reading an issue of a comic, you have to go into the Image List and clear it out before opening a new one, or the new one just gets appended after the current issue. Personally, I'd rather see the list get "replaced" when a new CBR/CBZ is double-clicked.

These are all minor, bug-fix issues, though. In general, this is a speedy & reliable viewer for CBRs and CBZs that gets the job done in a stable way. Looking forward to future updates.

ANONYMOUS  "thumbs view is a option and it is in a separate window" - Yes the separate window wasn't an optimal solution. That's why it has been changed since 0.8.5.

"VERY slow thumbnailer" - Blame Quicktime ;-)

"Wont display a image at all" - Write a bug report and we'll try to fix it.

"Junk for now" - ... Help to imrpove it.

JOSHUA  For people looking for an ACDsee replacement this might not be the top of the line. As a comic book/manga or any other collection of images stored in a rar or zip this program is pretty much the best.

Oh and you CAN turn off the voice command thing, just deselect it in the menu and in the preferences make sure that the program is set to remember menu settings. The next time you start the program the voice command UFO looking thing wont appear.

this guy is offering to make this cool app free, is willing to listen to and respond to feedback. He's a gracious guy, lets give him time to make his project better. But reviews like: bad program, etc. are not helpful OR encouraging to developers kile this man.

Get it?

I hope so, for the sake of our platform, that you do.

WALKEYMJ  Not normally one to right comments on this site, however felt compelled to do so in the case of this 'bad' piece of software! App ran up ok (good start) but when I closed the 'Speech Recognition' tool my display completely scrambled (bad... bad). The only way I was able to overcome this horrendous snag was to hard-boot the old, trusty iMac. For the sake of us mere mortals will the developer please remedy this problem ASAP as the app has a lot to offer if it actually worked okay!

LEO OF BORG  For reading manga, this thing blows adsee away.

What I need is:

1/ Anti-aliasing.

2/ FAST

3/ Voice command

4/ Browse inside cbz

FFView does this. AdSee does not.

ANONYMOUS  This is a great little program that will only get better. FFView is far superior to Comical for a number of reasons: 1. It's MUCH faster. 2. It allows you to browse several archives at once & reorder the files as you see fit. 3. The developer seems to be hell-bent on continuing it's development.

I hope the next release will allow for global image viewing preferences - you have to reset the view-size after each quit.

I've had a few hangups, but i think they were due to poor encoding in the first place. Simply expanding & reencoding the files fixed the problem every time.

Five stars are in FFView's future I'm sure.

SEAN  This app does what it's supposed to do.. It's the best app for reading manga so far.. Simple voice commands work fine as well..

I just found the shortcuts are a little bit complicated and could be simpler..

Since it does support voice commands, it'd be nice if some additional commands are added..

Overall, good job!!
