BILLONCHO Peerguardian gave me a corrupt file message and it had no lists. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it several times but it won't let me add a list. I want to put the P2P list back in. The corrupt file message has gone away since I reinstalled it. Thanks. (Version 1.5.1)

SPRINGHEELMAC On or about 30 Dec 2008, Peer Guardian stopped updating its block lists. I uninstalled and reinstalled, and now my block lists are even more out of date. Could all the different block list sites be down at the same time? That doesn't seem probable, but I've never had this problem before. (Version 1.5b1)

SHAYMORGAN well, I downloaded peep guardian today, it seems to be workings..i suppose, but i am wondering, do i have to add my p2p url to it somehow? i really don't know what i am doing. Example if i used limewire or azureus or something, do i have to manually go in and add that to peer guardian, or does it automatically block them? (Version 1.5b1)

BDOBBS This program does exactly what it purports to, and how. It rocks, I've never had problems with stability or anything else, but I've never delved into its depths. All that being said, it's ugly as sin. Really heinously, awfully ugly. I'm not a developer, so I don't know how hard it is to make an app with a UI (or at least a good menu-bar icon), but I hope that they release an update soon. Looks don't really matter that much to me, as long as it's functional, and this is entirely. If it gets a UI facelift, it'll get five stars from me. (Version 1.5b1)

UNDERTOW This app is very easy to use, especially if used in conjunction with Growl. http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15979 You never have to disable PeerGuardian when you have Growl running, because all the sites I run into that are not allowed are quickly allowed thru Growl. No big whoop! If PeerGuardian works or not. Who really knows? But after a month and a half of use I have not received any emails from my ISP. This review will self-destruct in 5 seconds. JACKWEB Mac users please listen up, some of you aren't understanding the focus of this app. Of course it blocks connections to Apple and other 'useful' sites. This is mainly for use when you're downloading stuff off P2P. So you wouldn't want to be tracked by government agencies or companies. This also helps stop you downloading from fake servers. You can turn it off, or selectively disable when you want to surf anywhere. One thing though, I wish this had enable/disable of just HTTP, like in the windows version. (Version 1.4.2)

APPLEGURU "So is this enabled all the time? No application was installed so how do I configure this? With PeerVanguard, I can see access attempts to my computer, how can I see attempts using this?" You can actually use PeerVanguard to check for attempts to access your computer still, as it just reads the ipfw database (Which is the same database this 'app' uses.) Alternatively, you can just check ipfw. Fire up the terminal and type: sudo ipfw show , followed by return, your admin password, and another return. A list, similar to that in PeerVanguard will appear, although you wont get the names from the original .p2p list like PV shows them... ...As of this version, you don't configure this, it does its thing automatically, although if your a bit terminal savvy and you want to see exactly what its doing/change its behavior, have a look at /etc/crontab (to look at this, throw echo /etc/crontab at the terminal...) And yes, this is installed "All the time". If you want to temporarilly disable the firewall, just fire up the terminal and sudo ipfw flush it... (You can probally do this via System Prefs as well. Remember though, this is an initial release 8) (Version 0.01)

APPLEGURU I don't really have a site for this application at this time (Although when/if I do it'd probably be located on my comcast page... http://appleguru.home.comcast.net/ As for similarity to PeerVanguard, this application basically _is_ PeerVanguard, minus any GUI, and much enhanced. In fact, it uses ipfwFast *from* PeerVanguard (See the readme), and future versions will include the .jar from PV as well for enhanced capabilities. What this application does that PV doesn't is keep your list automatically updated, a feature that because PV lacked encouraged me to cook up this solution. This application is just an installer for ipfwFast and the auto update script; it's set it - and forget it type software that runs 100% in the background. _I_, as the developer, take the list maintained by methlabs (The creators of PeerGuardian), convert it using the PeerVanguard .jar (Never a feature actually publicized anywhere, but doable via the java command and the cli nonetheless) to an ipfw compatible list of ips, which then gets hosted online (Here if you're curious: http://appleguru.home.comcast.net/pg4ipfw.config ). This gets done every 12 hours on _my_ end. On your end, the cron script, which runs at midnight and noon every day, installed via the installer downloads this list of IPs for ipfw, flushes your current ipfw list, and adds the new one. Future versions will allow you the choice of using my converted list or creating the converted list yourself (The end result being the same...) BTW, what latin word are you referring to? :-P (Version 0.01)
