BRANDON I like this application, and the themes provided. However, I wish there was an option to either have it save into a folder with all of the necessary images, or to be able to put in FTP information and have it upload directly. I am trying to put this on a personal server for reference by friends and myself when I am away from my computer, but when I upload it, as well as upload the folder of images. If you could e-mail me and tell me how to get this page to work correctly, I would appreciate it! Thanks for this awesome application. (Version 4.2.3)

LUXURYLUKE This *is* a great free program, and the idea rocks. The actual X/HTML is not optimum by my standards since it uses tables, which is not necessary afaic. If the developer needs help creating the resulting code in a manner that can be displayed in most new browsers without tables, you can get in contact with me, or anyone else that is able. This will result in much leaner and cleaner code, etc. etc. (Version 4.2.3)

VIVALDI Thank you, thank you, thank you Jonathan Berney, for hearing our (well, my) prayers. Now those of us who use ITunes 4.0 are no longer excluded from all the goodies. I would rate this new version (4.1.2.) as the best of them all -- free or pay -- at accomplishing what MAC forgot to do: make it fast and simple to create a printout of what's in your playlists. (For those who want text instead of HTML output, Taco editor and Tofu together make a delicious freeware plate.) Simple, elegant, satisfying -- this is now a fully-achieved app as far as I'm concerned. (Version 4.1.2)

BEN This hasn't worked for me. I've tried the normal way of converting an XML file and the Turbo way to convert. Both ways haven't gone anywhere. The program seems to just freeze. I've been patient and waited for hours, but no progress. I am running iTunes 4.6 and i'm not sure why this isn't working. Needs an update, but the program seems to be a great idea (Version 4.1.2)

VIVALDI PS: Vivaldi again, with a late postscript. Don't want to seem like a nutter (or peanutter) on this Itunes 4.5 issue, but others are bothered, too. Check, for instance, this website: http://technovia.typepad.com/technovia/2004/04/itunes_and_drm_.html I could go on, but you all have Google at your disposal.... (Version 4.1.1)

VIVALDI This is my second go-round here, now commenting as a user of the improved 4.1.1. (And boy, I'm sure glad I'm not a haughty, reluctant user, the kind that makes snippy comments. And probably in halfway decent English, too. Think how insufferable it must be to read comments by one of those snippy folks.) Since so many respondents here seem to have a Jonez about "Itunes catalog", let me try to put XHTML Playlist in perspective with it, since many users would doubtless like to know about that. For my uses, XHTML Playlist is far and away the better app. It will make a nice little HTML list that I can use on its own or convert to text. It will (theoretically, if that isn't too big a word for some folk) make the list using all possible combinations of fields in the order the user desires. Only one problem ... you need Itunes 4.5 to make it work. Perhaps I'm not the only person to stick with 4.1, since later versions have some problems. (Check contributions to this site from others.) For us stick-in-the-mud types, only the most basic three categories will come out in the HTML file. The developer states this in his remarks, and has told me about it privately. It's his choice, of course, but I think it limits the versatility of the program. To date, it's the only bad feature in it. The really good feature: it's free, and efficient. If you try out Itunes catalog you may find that it's too much horsepower. I don't need, for instance to use Rolling Stone lists, or publish lists on Imac. For me, it's an elephant gun to dissect a flea. (It also overlooks some important categories, such as disk number, that I use frequently.) You get what you pay for, and Itunes catalog will satisfy the power user; for the little stay-at-home librarian like me, small and free is just right. So I would like to encourage Mr. Berney to continue developing his app, but also to think about a workaround that might include the rest of us "conservative" (not a bad word, I hope) users who stick with an earlier Itunes version. And I thank him again for offering an otherwise excellent program. Now I am going to return to my seat in the peanut gallery. (Version 4.1.1)

JON iTunes 4.6 doesnât have problems, the real problem is that most people imagine that new software has problems... 4.1 was new at some point also. PS- making fun of "broken" English seems in poor form especially when your own writing is riddled with comma splices and sentences like, "If you try out iTunes catalog you may find that it's too much horsepower." People learning English are apt to make mistakes, and that isn't bad seeing as people who speak the language screw it up all the time. Don't pick on people for it. (Version 4.1.2)

JONATHAN I actually haven't yet received a single bug report for the current version, which is unusual. Therefore it's fairly safe to assume that people aren't having any problems anymore. If this isn't the case, I'd like to figure out what your issue is, so that it can be solved. This isn't possible without a bug report. So go ahead and bash my work all you want, but at least allow me to fix the problems by sending the text file you're trying to work with to the email address included in "Bug Reports.txt"

EJI iTunes XHTML Playlist is freeware. iTunes Catalog is shareware. It costs $9.95. So it's not that easy, now, is it? (Version 4.1.1)
| Jun 22 2004 |
EJI Man, this developer gets an inordinate amount of flack. Clogged bandwidth is a hosting issue and isn't the developer's fault, especially when he's offering an app for free. There have definitely been some glitches in iTunes XHTML Playlist in its various incarnations, but the developer seems polite and quick to leap on them, going so far as to release bug-fixed point revisions in a single day. The app has functioned relatively well for me and my aging iBook since I started using it several months ago (I post my entire 15,000 song library on my .Mac site for rarity and OOP trading); so I don't see why every new release merits some snippy comment from the peanut gallery or a begrudging thanks from some haughty, reluctant user. If there are bugs, follow the instructions on the bug report form included inthe .dmg and contact the developer. If you want something better to suit your specific, pampered needs, learn some code and write an app yourself. (Version 4.1)

VIVALDI Well, let's see... here we are up to 4.0, and the thing will at least make an HTML page from the playlist output. That's progress. Don't expect miracles from a detailed playlist, though. I tried to convert one organized by track order and got the following: Size -- either 0k or 1.1k (chosen apparently at random); Time -- 0:01 and onward in sequence, one second higher for each track (attention: "Time" does not mean "Track"); Disc Number: lots of question marks; Track -- please, don't even ask. Seriously, this fulfills a much-needed function, and I can't bitch too loudly since it's freeware and delivers (sort of) the basics. But the author needs to go through several more versions to make it anything less than a disappointment. I'm grateful, but with reservations. (Version 4.0)

ANONYMOUS "Improved support for accented and other non-English characters" What does this mean? Either there is Unicode support or there isn't. It's either off or on. It's either 100% or 0%. There are no "English" characters (those are actually Latin), and furthermore there is no reason to distinguish between "English" and other characters today; there are just characters, and they are all accessible the same way in the relevant API:s. I find it remarkable that people unaware of this basic fact still publish their home brewed programs. Take a look at http://www.student.lu.se/~kin02ndo/musik/%E4%B8%AD%E6%96%87%E6%9B%B2%E5%BA%93.xhtml to see what it is actually required of an app like this. JONATHAN BERNEY I'm having a hard time trying to decide whether you actually have an issue with my program, or whether you've got some other agenda. Nevertheless, I will boast that there is excellent support for unicode characters. However, to say that you support anything 100% comes off as a bit arrogant. There's always room for error, and I take full responsibility for any shortcomings of my program. It would be a mistake to make the user feel that they are responsible for my programming oversights by claiming that I have infinite precision. My program renders asian characters just fine. Here's an example: Exported file from a MacJapanese encoded text file: http://spark.is-a-geek.net/itunesxhtmlplaylist/GUITARFREAKS%208thMIX.html Exported file from a UTF16 encoded text file: http://spark.is-a-geek.net/itunesxhtmlplaylist/GUITARFREAKS%208thMIX_U.html The original text files were both exported from iTunes 4.5 running in Japanese. VIVALDI Full of hope, I opened version 3.0 of this app to see if it would work any better than its predecessors. Nope. It couldn't even recognize an Itunes plain text output file straight out of Itunes 4. Fiddled with various parameters of the file (opening line, no opening line; Mac, Unix line endings). No way, Jose. Life is just too short... If the bloody thing could tell me what it finds objectionable in the Itunes export, maybe we could do business. DARKBLADEX I agree with the fact of wanting to choose what gets converted, and also in what order displayed. Like showing the artist colum before the song title. But there is a problem with it. For some reason some of my songs get displayed out of order. It generally goes in order by artist, but in the middle of one artists set of songs a completely different artist will pop up in the middle of the first artists list, even though the second artist has a set place for itself. Otherwise I really like the program, but before i can display this on my website I'd like the bug to be fixed and have my songs in alphabetical order. (Version 1.0)

EJI Very powerful little application. The output is clean and surprisingly Mac-like in appearance. I would like to see the ability to choose which fields get converted. For example, I'd like to get rid of the "genre" column and replace it with "bitrate". But I'm sure that feature will be included in future revisions -- this is, after all, v1.0.
