JOSH RODGERS This little program works exactly as advertised. I had several wma files that needed to be converted to mp3. There are several free alternatives, but most of the free programs require additional software. This piece of software, although it's not free, was an excellent solution! The program has a drag and drop style interface, which makes converting quick and easy! Just choose your format, then, drag and drop! Conversion starts instantly and saves in the same folder as your original media! Not only does this software work fast and efficient, but it's also affordable. License keys are sent via e-mail instantly after purchase, so you can start converting right away! (Version 3.0.2)

MRB394EVER I needed to change wma files to something usable by iTunes. This worked beautifully . . . converted about 200 tunes to mp3 in about 40 minutes. Batch processing makes it totally painless. Not lots of options, but plenty for me. Price is right, too . . .$10. One tip from another user was to try the demo program first to see if the wma files are protected. Good idea. (Version 2.9)

SWISSROLL A no nonsense app that does what it says it does with no fuss. I use it to convert my Olympus Voice Recorder wma files to mp3s. It also converts other formats as I found out when some bizarre Open Source freaks insist on sending .ogg files. EasyWMA also converts those with aplomb. (Version 2.9)

For a start ffmpegX is a majorly confusing piece of very complex software. It's massive overkill if you just want to do some audio conversion. Additionally, very often ffmpegX produces bunged up files or ones incompatible with other software or hardware; partially because of it's plethora of not necessarily compatible options. If you don't pay for flip4mac (now Microslough Windows Media Components), you can't export without restrictions. (Version 2.7.5)

ANONYMOUS I guess the reason why it's now $10 is because noone actually donated... I suppose people using the previous versions should have donated (even $2) which is probably not the case for most of them. (Version 2.3)
| Aug 22 2005 |
ANONYMOUS If asking people for $2 is difficult, asking for $10 is going to be more difficult. My question is why the price change without any new features? I have seen some freeware changing from being free version 1.x to shareware 2.0 but going from free version 2.2 to paying version 2.3 is simply... not clever. Add some more functionality to the program and release a new major update before dreaming of anyone will pay. (Version 2.3)
| Aug 22 2005 |
ANONYMOUS It looks like the removal of the donation box is a consequence of the change of license. It make sense if the software is not "donationware" anymore. This is probably because most people were not playing the game and donating to the author even though they were using the software... Now, nobody will oblige you to upgrade. Neither for this version, nor for future versions. If you don't want to buy this software you are free to do so. (Version 2.3)

ANONYMOUS Does changing the extension from .wma to .mp3 really convert the file? Would be VERY suprising. This should just change the file type, which then would be simply wrong - an wma file pretending to be an mp3 file. Which means an app able to play wma might notice this when opening the file and still play it - as wma file. An app/player only able to play mp3 will fail. (Version 2.3)
| Aug 18 2005 |
S. C. STONE This guy is an idiot. Two very different encoding formats. ANONYMOUS Why it costs $10 while it was a previously $2 donationware? Where is the new feature that worth the extra $8? Removal of "Request for Donation" dialog box a significant new feature? I don't think is. While it is much more convenient than converting WMA file with iTune running on Windows, the convenience is never worth $10. Think again Mr. Developer. You are not only losing money. You are losing fans. Developers wrote free software to attract users who might pay for other shareware or commercial software written by the same author with similar quality. The worst move is to p*ss off your potential clients. (Version 2.3)

MOONCOW Fantastic piece of software once you get it sussed. I had the same initial problems as many people but after some experimenting and reading the guide on the website I got it working. Here are a couple things to bare in mind: - Make sure the WMA files are on your hard drive and not a cdrom/dvd etc. This software creates the mp3 files in the same directory so it won't work if you try converting direct from sources other than the hard drive. - Also make sure the the folder containing the WMA files is set to enable both reading and writing. Do this by highlighting the folder and going to File, then Get Info. In the menu that appears, set the Ownership & Permissions box to Read & Write. These were the two hurdles that stood in my way, so I guess it's happened to a few others. I hope this lil' guide helps you others! (Version 2.0.2)

GOSTCODER Works really well. After downloading WMA files in Safari EasyWMA automatically took over and converted the files to MP3. But here's something that would be even better guys; roll this into a QuickTime codec! Then we won't even have to convert the files, we'd be able to play WMA files in iTunes and ANY app that plays audio using QuickTIme. How cool would that be. Interface needs a bit of work, clicking items in the list should select them so then I can hit the "show" button in the toolbar. Currently it doesn't recognize clicks at all. Keep up the good work. ANONYMOUS But, then they'd 'upgrade' the WMA format again, and render the codec useless. :/ I don't know... I get the impression that MS wouldn't like a third-party Mac WMA codec. The developer might also get into some sticky issues involving DRM. (They did go after one or two people for reverse-engineering WMA's 'predecessor,' the ASF format, if I remember correctly...) ANONYMOUS This is a wrapper to ffmpeg. The interface is quite simple and easy to understand. A simple drag 'n drop to convert WMA files... It would be nice to have the ability to drag a folder instead of all files within a folder. Also, a bitrate detection of the source files would be an interesting feature. (Version 1.1.2)

ANONYMOUS even better, screw M$ and Windows Media!! (Version 1.1.2)

KREVNIK WMA is proprietary, which is why we haven't seen any converters... first you have to get an app that can read WMA, then write an app to convert it based on the app that can read WMA. Linux only has 1-2 working solutions to playing WMA as it is. It is illegal to crack the DRM on Windows Media files because of the cursed DMCA. (Version 1.1.2)

RIP0FF Well I tried this program.. It indeed converts .wma to .mp3. Unfortunately I got only gibberish. The .wma file played fine in MPlayer, however. Back to the drawing board. (Version 1.0)

RIP0FF For the very occasional .wma files you come across, MPlayer will open them, along with a huge variety of audio and video files (.avi, .ogg, asf, ...), and even some corrupt .mpg that QT won't play. It's right here at MU: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/10784. Now, if you want to keep .wma files on your HD, this program may do the trick... better have a .mp3 than a .wma on a Mac. MACBUDDY Very cool idea, especially if any Mac users come across 'any' wma files. ;-) Good icon, nicely priced. However, it does not work under 10.2.8. [The application EasyWMA has unexpectedly quit. (The system and other apps have not been affected)] [From the website (& ReadMe): EasyWMA has been developed under Mac OS X 10.3 Panther, but should also work under Mac OS X 10.2 although it has not been tested.] Anyway, I'm sure v1.01 will 'fix' this. ;-) (Version 1.0)

ANONYMOUS Great thing. Works and has a good price. Is there any app which converts sound from a .wmv-file to an .mp3-file? (Version 1.0)
