JERRY JONES The reason they are out of order is because of a new form of copy protection that the film industry has introduced. It forces the computer to read the disc and show dozens of different titles only one of which is the actual movie in the proper sequence. Most programs automatically rip the longest video which will always be a wrong file. What you need to do is open the dvd in the dvd player or any other app that plays the actual disc and then choose to play the movie and take note of which title the program is playing. When you go back to rip choose that title and you will have a good copy of the movie you want. Mostly I have noticed that this happens with Paramount or Dreamworks films. (Version 2.6.6)

CORPSECORPS Many apologies to Geezerbutz for bad-mouthing the software here and there. I only recently discovered a very peculiar, tricky to suss out problem with my Mac Pro Superdrive (or maybe the way it interacts with 10.5.7-10.5.8) which made it seem as if all ills were the fault of software. With new, better external hardware, MTR 3 is once again working like a charm except on the very latest discs. Comparable apps look better too, but IMO this beats or at least equals them because it does more or is successful more often. Anxious to see what's in store in version 4! (Yes, people, v.4 is indeed in the works, and if you never knew about v.3 you're REALLY underestimating the project X^D ) (Version 2.6.6)

MARK EVERITT This is the last free version of MacTheRipper. As it is from 2005, it's completely out of date and will not work on recent DVDs. In order to get hold of a newer version you have to sign up to the forum and that costs money. If you read below, you'll see that many people have had a bad experience with the developer. As there are newer alternatives I recommend trying one of those instead. (Version 2.6.6)

Most of my MTR rips now playing badly on my Sony DVD player, they skips every 2 mins and render the movie pretty much unwatchable. MCD3 First off, this app has taken FOREVER to get to 3 (14m)beta A little too long- I donated what 2-3 years ago-and its still not finished, it seems If you donated, you were supposedly going to be notified about new betas to DL and then get the final FREE. Every so often I would notice 2-3 betas later of a new one No notification. Would inform of my email address which supposedly When 3 (13r) came out I had to go through an elaborate FBI background check and follow a too complex set of exact instructions to prove I had donated- So they send me the app only-no license I wrote 3 times and each time the app ONLY arrived. FINALLY I got the license-which you put into /user/library/prefs or MTR wont work I wrote for what appears to be the final beta-no final release it seems, and have not heard back; I finally got it off MSJ with license Its telling that one time the developer defended himself from charges that he was building the app as slowly as possible in hopes of getting as many donations as possible If Blu Ray ever takes off-which I doubt-different claims of 10% to 75% of the market has switched to BR- I think 10-15% is more accurate-esp in these times-then MTR will become obsolete Ive read many others who have complained It does not feel finished, crashes and seems defeated by the very things it was built to avoid-studio tricks to trip up ripping (Version 2.6.6)

ST00P!D M0NK3Y That about sums it up right there. I went the MSJ root as well to avoid the nightmarish stories I've read about. And even after getting it from there, the app is extremely buggy and doesn't work on most new DVDs. The developer is sucking money from the hopes of faithful MTR fans and each new beta release seems to be further and further apart. I have no clue when a final stable release will come into fruition, but MTR is a shadow of what it used to be and the development is asinine. (Version 2.6.6)

ADONSA 5 Stars - This applies to Version 3.0. I'm a newly registered user of MactheRipper 3.0. The need to upgrade for System Leopard compatibility motivated me, and I have no regrets. The full version 3.0 is absolutely elegant and a pleasure to use. I haven't explored all the capabilities yet, because I haven't needed to. This is one of the finest Macintosh applications out there. You need to know, that registration is complicated and requires a lot of steps and procedures. Take your time and follow all instructions to the letter. I dare say that this registration is the most complex of any Macintosh application out there. You won't get any hand holding during registration, so follow the instructions precisely, then it will succeed. Don't complain about the registration process because now you know - you're gonna have to pay attention to what you're doing. Your willingness to precisely follow instructions is paramount. The good news (about the registration) is that esellerate is not involved. So, once you're completely done, it won't be "phoning home" all the time like a lot of applications are starting to do. As far as I can tell, after you're registered, it won't phone home at all. (Version 2.6.6)

ST00P!D M0NK3Y There's a reason that programs need to be updated... because new encryption algorithms are being produced all the time on new DVDs. Fairmount is great... I use it... but it doesn't work all the time... especially with newer releases. When neither Fairmount or MactheRipper works, I boot up Parallels in Windows and copy the disc with an updated version of AnyDVD... which is by far the best decryptor I've come across on Windows or Mac. CORPSECORPS Used to be the MUST HAVE ripper tool for Macs. Version 2.66 is long outdated, and despite claims that 3.0 will be showing up free of charge, for the past couple years it's required a "donation" and jumping through an ever increasing chain of hoops to obtain a 3.0 beta. Updates have ground to a virtual halt, and it can no longer cope with many of the newest discs. Still hoping it will return to former greatness. RipIt is poised to surpass this feature-wise in the near future, and has likely already done so as far as success rate. Unfortunately, it won't currently replace this as far as giving you a re-encodable VTS folder, so it seems Mac folks are in limbo at present. (Version 2.6.6)

MARK EVERITT I'm confused. The libraries mentioned below are GNU GPL. Does that not require that the source for MacTheRipper is freely available? SHOCK J I hope you're not trying to suggest that because someone uses open source code in their project that their ENTIRE project, including the code that THEY WROTE, must now be open source? You've got to be kidding. Apple uses TONS of open source code in Mac OS X (i.e. Darwin) and they certainly don't give their OS away for free or submit every piece of code they write into the open source community. Just because you happen to use some open source code in a project, doesn't mean that the code YOU wrote the utilizes it isn't still proprietary and doesn't belong to you. (Version 2.6.6)
| Nov 1 2008 |
MARK EVERITT Wow. Ease up on the aggro there! You've made a fair point and cleared up my question. Still, it's not exactly in the spirit is it? As far as I know the major contributor to Darwin is Apple (they host the source code on their servers) to separate the open source chunk from their proprietary chunk, so I'd counter what you're saying. They are giving the OS away for free. Darwin is the OS, and Mac OS is Darwin plus some sugar. That is getting a bit pedantic though. (Version 2.6.6)
| Nov 19 2008 |
RIPIT Actually, the open source projects being used are licensed under the GPL (v2) -- and that version of the GPL explicitly states that, "You must cause any work that you distribute or publish, that in whole or in part contains or is derived from the Program or any part thereof, to be licensed as a whole at no charge to all third parties under the terms of this License." ( read more at: http://www.gnu.org/licenses/old-licenses/gpl-2.0.html ) In short, if you use *any* GPL'd code into your app, your entire app falls under the terms of the GPL. This is exactly why the GPL is described as a "viral" license. MacTheRipper is violating the spirit as well as the legal terms of the license, plain and simple. In contrast, Apple uses "BSD" licensed open source code, which contains no such viral provision, and "LGPL" code, which is basically the GPL but without the viral provisions for users of libraries and such. (Version 2.6.6)

THECAUSE MacTheRipper claims to be 'free' but to get the full and best mactheripper 3.0 you need to donate. So shouldn't 2.6.6 be called a demo? Additionally, the latest donationware version on the 3.0 version 'phones home' every time you use it. So it is very possible that personal information of yours *may* be broadcast across the internet, which could also identify you as an MacTheRipper user. Doesn't it seem ironic that the developer of an app used to help circumvent movie protections is implementing an anti-piracy scheme for his own-software? Where did this project go wrong? What ever happened to open source being open source? (MTR is dependent upon the open-sourced GPL libdvdread and libdvdcss libraries.) Great software core, terrible chains tied to it and bad exploitation of open source resources. (Version 2.6.6)

KPS This app is beginning to show its age. There are an increasingly large number of movies it will not copy. Obviously the DVD manufacturers are always trying to improve their copy protection technology and they have begun to leave these older rippers behind. Oh and spare me the "all of mine work fine." I do have a question (newbie here). I noticed that after the dvd files have successfully ripped and saved to a specified folder, that an .img file is also created, however it is saved outside of the specified folder in which the files were saved. In other words, create a folder, save files from MTR to that folder. .img file is saved outside of that folder.

BEMAC It's very simple once you know how :) ... to change the output of MacTheRipper into a video DVD that can be played in a DVD player. You don't need a third party software to buy... or any awkward other steps. Most Mac users already have Toast on their Macs, so it's just a matter of burning the VIDEO_TS folder. When MacTheRipper is finished, it will yield 2 folders (usually): a VIDEO_TS folders and an AUDIO_TS folder. Just open Toast Titanium (the Mac CD/DVD burning software from Roxio) and select the "Video" tab, as opposed to "Data" or "Audio". Then, on Toast, click on "VIDEO_TS Folder". Now, you simply drag your VIDEO_TS folder (from the movie or video that was ripped from MacTheRipper) onto Toast. Do not drag the AUDIO_TS folder. If you do, it may mess up the process. That folder is usually empty anyway. Finally, place a blank DVD in your Mac and click the red Record button on Toast to burn your DVD. I think this only works on Toast version 8 or later. The earlier versions didn't have the VIDEO_TS options under Video. You may also adjust your options on Toast prior to burning. I always do this. After dragging the VIDEO_TS folder to Toast, you can click on Copy Options for more control and options. Under the "Audio" pull-down menu, I usually select only English, since I won't need the other languages. Once you do that, it frees up more space on the DVD for better quality. On the "Video" pull-down menu, you can choose "All", "Main" or "Custom". In the nutshell, it lets you take off video items such as the special features, if you want better quality. Some folks may want the whole movie, special features and all and don't care as much about quality. And some folks want the best quality, but only the Main feature. If you have a dual-layer DVD burner, you can probably fit everything on the DVD anyway. But I've had great results with full-length movies going to regular single-layer 4GB DVDs. Whatever setting you choose, Toast will let you preview a bit of the video to check the quality of playback, so that's cool. MTR works on most DVDs, but there are some newer ones out now that won't rip or burn properly.

ADWIZ MacTheRipper 2.6.6 used to work great, but recent updates by Apple seem to have broken the app. All it does now is continuously ask for the "save to" folder and then do nothing. I use Handbrake to rip my DVDs to Apple TV and my iPod, but some of them have problems with the audio, so with those I first convert them to digital Video TS folders to get around the problem. Guess I'll have to go the long way around now. (Version 2.6.6)

BDKENNEDY1 I've lived long enough to see it all. The next version of MacTheRipper will need to be activated over the internet. MacTheRipper was the defacto standard for ripping DVD's on your Mac. Now they have implemented a license protection scheme for their software that phone's home when you connect to the internet. That's right folks. The developers are so full of themselves that they are protecting their own software that pirates DVD's. They ask you to donate money to support them even though they haven't had an official release in almost 2 years. Instead, donate your money to DVD2OneX. At least they come out with regular updates. GARYD Just so people don't misunderstand what DVD2One does, DVD2One is a compressor, rather than a true ripper. It does a fine job on discs without copy protection and on discs which have already been ripped to remove or bypass such protection. It does not rip copy protected discs, nor does it claim to do so anywhere on its web site. It is certainly not an alternative to a program like MacTheRipper. (Version 2.6.6)

NEVER SAY NIKON The program works good on mac, doesn't crash and has many features but totally rubbish on it's own. Yes it can rip a DVD but you can't do anything with the format it ripped. Besides it taking up space on the HD, You Can't play it back or burn it on to another disk to play it back. There are some people saying "Yeah stupid you have to convert it" and that I know. However that requires additional software because this software does nothing of the sort. So unless you want to rip a movie to do nothing with. It's Rubbish!!! (Version 2.6.6)

REY NEVER SAY NIKON, you are wrong on a couple of points. First, you said you can't do anything with the ripped files. You couldn't be more wrong. The folder Mac The Ripper creates contains a Video_TS folder. Drag that folder onto DVD player and it will play just like any DVD. Second, you said you can't burn it to another disk. Wrong again. You can use Toast, Popcorn, and I think even Disk Utility to burn a fully-functional CD from the Video_TS folder which Mac The Ripper creates. Mac The Ripper is an excellent program for ripping DVDs. If you can find a more functional free program, do tell. Meanwhile, keep your frustrated misinformation to yourself. (Version 2.6.6)

Are there any apps out there that have burning and compressing abilities WITH the ease and simplicity that MTR affords? Will MTR be able to crack new sony dvds in their next version? Have you donated to this MacTheRipper project? No? What a surprise. The creator & developer of MTR has been fighting legal battles with Macrovision regarding. *You* have done nothing except leech & whine like a baby. If you think software development is so easy, why don't you contribute like the rest of us have, instead of referring to an excellent *free* product as a "joke"? Mark Everitt, you are a joke. MARK EVERITT Ok, I'm sorry if I sounded whiny. I was just a little annoyed at the time when I know that there's an intel version. It seemed like the developer was making a distinction between ppc and intel users that was unfair. I donate to all the open and/or free projects that I'm aware of using on a regular basis. As soon as I can try out an intel version of this, and see if it suits me, I'm not inclined to pay for it. I know that my previous comment was insensitive, and as I've said I am very sorry, and I partially retract it because of the tone. However, I stand by my desire for an intel version to try out. WISEWEASEL It probably got saved in your /Volumes/ directory, in a folder with the same name as your removable drive. When you set MTR to save to a removable drive, and then that drive becomes unavailable, it will actually create a new directory in /Volumes/ with the same name as the removable drive. To get to it, you can select the "Go to Folder" option in the 'Go' menu in the Finder (or hit command-shift-G), and enter the location "/Volumes/" (minus quotes). (Version 2.6.6)

THOMAS WOOLEY First off not all DVD players can play region free DVD's. Second an easy way to get around Toast and popcorn crashing is after MacTheRipper has scanned the DVD do not change the RCE but above in the region window usually says Region 1 click on it uncheck region 1, click region 2 or any other, then uncheck the regions and check region 1 and OK you are rady to go. I have had the same issue because my DVD player which is a new Sony would not play my DVD's. But doing this everything is fine. Hope this helped. (Version 2.6.6)

MOUSEPOWER I used v2.6.6 for months to back up my own DVD's and never had a problem. Suddenly, every time I want to create a copy of my backup, the Popcorn app reports verification errors. This probably started with an OS and/or QuickTime update. The DVD copies seem to work fairly well except for momentary pauses once or twice in my programs. (Version 2.6.6)

JEFF H. This is probably due to some of the new "Arcoss" (or whatever they call it), copy protection. Intentionally "bad sectors" are written into the DVD to try and eliminate ripping. Mactheripper version 3 sort of addresses this, but not every time. It does a very good job of it though, and gets around 8 out of 10. Version 3 is not readily available, but if you search hard enough on the www you'll locate it. (Version 2.6.6)

THEBATTMAN MTR 2.6.6 chrashing/not functioning. Have reinstalled the app after deleting every trace of the software, and still crashes or just simply never functions. The app use to function well, but hasn't since OSX 10.4.5 (or was it the QT update?). Anyway, I hope the new v3 is worked out soon. ROBBRUHL TUCO, its not MacTheRIipper its your DVD drive. The built in mac DVD drives all have a "read" or "rip" max cap of 4x or 6x. If you flash the drive with "crack" firmware or use a non apple drive (less then 1 year old with up-to date- firmware) the read cap is normally not present. My 2 machines, g4 and g5, both rip a dual layer encrypted dvd in 5 to 10 minuets using the same pioneer external drive on both machines. I do remember seening a firmware patch to remove the apple max cap read speed ( to let it read dvd's at 12x or 16x), but you would have to flash your apple drive with pioneer firmware to remove the read speed cap built into apples version of the firmware for the pioneer drive. TUCO Nice looking application. But where is the performance? vobcopy on my old Athlon 2400+ Linux box mirrors a DVD-9 in 15 minutes. MacTheRipper and others OS X apps I've tried take up to and over 45 minutes on my dual-core 2.3GHz PowerMac G5. What gives? I'd like to see a version compiled for the G5 assuming, of course, optimization swithces is the bottleneck. (Version 2.6.6)

TUCO "Performance is governed strictly by how fast your DVD drive reads." That may be true. But in this case, there is more to it. Case in point. I took the SONY DRU-710A DVD out of the Linux box and put it in the Power Mac G5 and mirrored a DVD-9 with both vobcopy (from fink) and MacTheRipper. Both cases it was still significantly slower compaired to the same DVD that was in the Linux box. I guess my next step will be to compile vobcopy with G5 optimization. (Version 2.6.6)

MATHIAS The developer of MacTheRipper used to be my hero until he realised what an amazing money-making machine he actually had in his hand. As Of MTR 3.0b he is only handing out betas of v3.0 if people donate to him. He has managed to find a loophole in the legal system and as long as no mention of a "fee" is mentioned he is in the clear. I myself have donated, along with others, and I ask myself this: when exactly will MTR 3.0R13 ever be released? When the "donations" start slowing down? Is it the developers intention to get rid of all the bugs in MTR 3.0? Why get MTR to a final release when so much money can be made with the betas? What came first? The chicken or the egg? i.e. did the developer want help the Mac Community so that the big greedy DRM-Crazy companies couldn't screw us over that easily or was there always the thought of getting Mac-Users so hooked on MTR that they would be willing to "donate" money even if they didn't see any results for months on end? Everybody has the right to ask for money for something that they invest their time in but with the developer of MTR I do have my doubts. To think that I used to choose "the great fighter for justice" in the poll. (Version 2.6.6)

STEFAN LANGFORD um, no... not at all... he needs the donations to be able to fund his time off work to find sufficient time to iron out all the little niggles with 3.0R13... yes, R12 has been out a long time, but hes not a pro developer, and he has to support himself and work, so progress has been slow. Happily, hes got nearly enough to take time off and finish off R13... Oh, and he has every intention of releasing 3.0 final as soon as he can... and even more importantly, for free... NILENT 2.6.6 works fine; if the developer gets paid by those able and willing to do so for his time in putting together a newer/better version...I have no reason to begrudge. FELIX01 Well, if you really "have doubts" as you say, then why don't you post the 3.0 r12 download link in the clear and see if that speeds up r13 any. No, I didn't think so. You don't want to be blacklisted from getting the latest and greatest betas as a software donor, do you? And I suspect you also feel that a developer deserves due compensation for his work. Personally, I think the developer is moving along about as quickly as I would expect given that he's doing the coding by himself and in addition to his day job. Give the guy a break. He deserves a life outside of MTR. (Version 2.6.6)

SMTIPS MTR has always been great. I try to pay for and donate to the software makers whose apps I use on any kind of basis, as long as the app isn't bugridden and actually works. I only have this question for Mathias: Does it work good for you and are you using it? Everything else you said is immaterial. Does your phone work and do you use it? Does your Mac work for you and do you use it? Who cares what motivates a developer to ask for a donation? If you got something and it works for you and you use it, then why would there be a problem helping fund future development? (Version 2.6.6)

MRFISCK I got similar thoughts as Mathias. The developer - geezerbuttz - shows us a large ego right now and he is talking a lot of b*s*. And now and everyday third day his computer equipment fall apart and he is asking for more "donations". And what about all this justifying nagging from himself and from [fake] members about he being an amateur. You do not have to *behave* like an amateur even if you in the traditional sense are one. His internet forum at ripdifferent.com seems like a yes-man club. Halleluja great GB. The "discussion" might be set up as a play for the ordiance. Very sectarian bulls**t not like how I am used to how strong, fresh and dynamic other mac user forums are. The current product seems unreliable as a swiss cheese full of holes. I tried to rip two different 3 year old DVDs with v3.0b13 but the ended up unreadable by DVD readers. However the old [v2.2.6.] and free version did the job fine. Have av funny thought that this guy now might be held as a hostage by the big companys and that he agreed to play a game with the p2p users giving the industry some extra time to improve the anti-piracy technology. GERRY555 Very pleased with MTR 2.6.6. There is some talk in the guidance notes that you need to have two folders, a VIDEO_TS folder and an AUDIO_TS folder (that is empty). True. I was pleased to find that both folders are created (copied!) by MTR with all the Video files faithfully copied, too. Less full guidance on what to do if the files exceed the size of your DVD blank, but then that's not what MTR is for.... (Version 2.6.6)

MACATTACK Try using other than Sony media, and definitely try other than Popcorn. The fact they are falling apart is more likely to come from whatever compression app you use than the media (if it's name brand). I won't use Popcorn as it doesn't seem to work for me. I bought DVD2one. It's much more advanced. Much quicker, higher quality and much more reliable. DOTSARAH Hi, have had exactly the same problem, particularly with newer discs. Of course, it may just be that the disc is dirty or damaged and there's not much you can do about it. But if that's not the case this is what has worked for me: do a full disc ARccOS extraction. BAD SECTOR will appear in the dialog box but a window won't pop up asking you to click a button. It will seem to pause but after (quite) a while extraction will continue. Extraction may take something like 3 or 4 times as long as normal, but it should work. Also another vital tip is to NEVER open DVD Player while riping. But I guess everyone has probably encountered that problem. To be extra careful I make sure it isn't running before opening MTR. ANONYMOUS toast 7 does it for you. or popcorn. they scan each image and relate it to those around it to see what changes, or what is pretty much a flat colour. it then slightly pixelates things that it thinks it can get away with. generally it decreases picture quality, but if less than a 50% compression little difference can be seen on a tv, to my eye at least.... STEAKSAUCE I have had v. 2.6.6 and have loved it, but I've noticed more and more red- flagged pop-ups concerning the possibility of dummy VOB padding. Looking through the feedback here and on the forum for MTR, I see that a version 3.0 is up and as of now, if I understand it, Dev plans to give those who "donate" a newer release, making them one version higher than those who don't. I still want to donate, but am a critic of the way {pay site's name withheld} operates, especially after the class action lawsuit came about. MOF, I'm one who had problems with the pay site I speak about. If Dev has an alternative way of transferring funds, even via snailmail to a PO box, I'd be happy to. I had wanted to do that for at least a year now, because of the promptness at which Dev updates whenever there's a need to. (Version 2.6.6)

ANONYMOUS Seems that there are a lot of claims that the newer versions have trouble on Mac OSX Tiger. Oddly enough I'm still using the older 1.5.5 release with no failures (in TIGER and PANTHER!), but as to the speed issues you get what you put into it. Still ANOTHER very popular Mac DVD ripper has consistantly failed to archive my discs and is quite unstable, But MTR has always come through where the MBU does not. Good RIPs take time. I'd rather it be slower and a bit more complete that mishandle my data. How much did you pay for this App? Quit your griping...;(

Sadly, Version 3.0 is being held hostage as GuiltWare or BlackmailWare. The developer has decided only those that donate should have this release. had this software done what it was supposed to Iw ould have gladly paid..but instead the dev has decided to act like a pirate and manipulate people into doing as it wants...kudos dev! ANONYMOUS The app does exactly what it supposed to do. I have used it to backup DVD's which I bought for my grandkids. Haven't had a coaster yet. I donated and have the latest version andI didn't feel I was being blackmailed. I was happy to donate. It is better than FastDVDCopy which I paid $100 for and then unfortunately bought a new machine and now can't use. I bet you get paid for your work. (Version 2.6.6)

ANONYMOUS blackmail = threats made with malicious intent. i dont "force " or "make" anyone donate , so its not blackmail. i suggest you undertsand what you are trying to say , before you say it! (Version 2.6.6)

ANONYMOUS It is very sad to read such a review from someone who chooses to remain anonymous. I believe that the majority of software is not freeware, and should the developer of MTR decide to make his product shareware, or donation ware, why would it entice such horrid criticism? I truly doubt that you are suggesting that MTR should remain freeware, and that the developer should contribute his time and talents to you for free. If so, what can you do for me that I can make good use of, and never charge me a cent? (Version 2.6.6)

ANONYMOUS i fully agree, the developer should be allowed to charge for the work he does. But you know what, he didn't do all the work for this program. he is relying on open source software covered under the GPL. And if you want to know the real sad fact, its that GPL violations on the mac OS are so commonplace, its frightening. So while I agree that a developer has every right to charge for their work, if they are going to rely on GPL-licensed code to create their applications, they really need to be a fair contributor to the open source community and not try to prosper off the freely-provided works of others. Work that was freely provided to better the community, not the pockets of other developers. -An Open Source Developer. (Version 2.6.6)

SKEEZER I think most people are missing the point the developer isn't trying so much to make money, but is rather trying to reward those people who were nice enough and responsible enough to support him and his development efforts. (Version 2.6.6)

RVT Tried backing up Kung Fu hustle but macthe ripper runs into a VOB file that it considers an invalid file because it's not a valid size for a VOB file even though the size is 141mb. Anyone run into this with newer DVD releases? (Version 2.6.6)

NIKODEMUS Works great in Panther. SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS in Tiger... The rips are much SLOWWWER in Tiger for some strange reason, I noticed this on 3 different computers so far. Average rip times in Panther are 10min compared to 15min in Tiger. To me, that's unacceptable to keep using TIger. I wiped my HD clean and re-installed Panther. I hope the developer will update soon, MTR is the only reason I'm still using Panther. I love MTR! (Version 2.6.6)

WILL "DUCKY" DUISBURG Nikodemus, if you're in such a hurry ripping DVDs and stealing movies, you better consider buying a custom-built DVD storage/backup plant. No offense, but whining about such things is just naïve and childish. :-) (Version 2.6.6)

ANONYMOUS I am attempting to back up my DVD collection. I am experiencing difficulty in properly extracting an intact DVD disc with MTR. I have read the MTR directions and follow them accordingly, but the ripped VIDEO_TS file will not even run properly with the DVD Player on my Powerbook. All I am able to view is the English and French initial screens, and then it freezes. The DVD's menu never appears, and instead an error message appears. DVD Player encountered an error it could not recover from. The disk copy protection could not be verified. The disk cannot be played. [-70025] Previously, I attempted to use the MTR ripped VIDEO_TS file to burn a DVD using my newly purchased (and updated to version 1.0.3) Popcorn program. However, this DVD only showed the English/French language introduction (warning) screens. The full 4-plus gigs were copied to the DVD, the DVD was mounted, etc., but it was unplayable. Any help or advice as to how I can correct this problem would be MOST appreciated. Thank you in advance. Also: I have a newly purchased 1.5 GHz Powerbook with Mac OS 10.4 Tiger. (Version 2.6.6)

ANONYMOUS You will need something like popcorn or better still toast to burn the dvd's but before that you need something like Dvdremaster to put the ripped dvd back together before the burn. Popcorn didn't work for me so bought DVD remaster which works great and with step by step instructions. You have to purchase it online (Version 2.6.6)
