JONATHAN   Try Acid Search! Its the best and is compatible with the newest version of Safari. Plus, you can fully customize the search bar, but you don't need to type in ebay, etc. You can have the search bar do it for you all automatically.

ANONYMOUS  if you really want something like this i suggest the safarikeywords program, it has its own prefpane and from there you can specify as many search engines to search as you want. on mine it does yahoo, ebay, google, google image search, macosxhints, mac update and a dozen others. To use it you just type in what you want to find preceeded by the appropriate word. for example to search for "microwavable dice" in ebay you type "ebay microwavable dice" in safari's search bar. highly reccomended!

ANONYMOUS  I installed this and sure enough, it replaces the search menu text with Yahoo! But when I used the search bar it gave me Google results, then the bar just stopped having any text in it.

Removed it.

ANONYMOUS  Worked great and it's free! I was able to replace the Google search engine with Yahoo and it even changed the grey search engine lettering from "Google" to "Yahoo!"

Now if it could only change the engine to Teoma...

ANONYMOUS  The new search at Yahoo! is great. I highly suggest that you guys who are wondering "why" replace Google with Yahoo! try out Yahoo! for a few days. Have an open mind, be objective, and I promise you that you'll love it.

Make the switch to the better search provider already! ;)

ANONYMOUS  You guys who ask why, obviously haven't used Yahoo! search for awhile and don't know that they just launched their own search, not using google what so ever and it's better. Compare the two side by side with the same queries. I've done this myself a few times and 4 out 5 times, Yahoo! Search is better. Their product search also kicks butt over froogle. Also, If you haven't tried the new search and you're saying it sucks, well... yeah.. they used to use google so you're basically saying google sucks too. Duh!

ANONYMOUS  Yahoo dropped Google for its search last week to use its own (Inktomi) search. Which also powers MSN and some other sites as well.

ANONYMOUS  Yahoo! most certainty dropped Google. It is not pointless because, the search results DO tend to be different.

That said... If you want a power tool for searching via Safari may be better off using Sogudi.

PDM  Yes, sorry there is no uninstall. This was a quick hack thrown together, this is why I urge you to make a backup of your Safari.app before you

run the program. Making it uninstall would require a good deal more effort like storing the backed up binary some where etc. Making a copy of Safari before doing this makes restoring super easy.
