GCOGHILL  Perfect battery status replacement for the menubar, this is how it should be. And works great with my APC UPS/battery backup as well.

About the only thing I could suggest for this app would be to have the option to use Growl for updates - switching to battery/charger, fully charged, low battery warnings. And when the battery hits low enough to go to sleep mode, the warning window could be an HUD-style window (or Growl - I can't recall if there needs to be user input). Currently I use a widget for these notifications.

But as-is, still excellent.

RIDOGI  It's great to be able to have the battery icon turn red when you're running low -- really catches the eye so you don't get caught off guard. The only thing I'd like to see in it is the ability to switch between the energy saver modes as in Apple's standard menu bar icon.

MACUPDATE109  Elegant. Light. Saves menu bar space compared to Apple's battery thing. Doesn't gobble up resources. Doesn't do anything unnecessary like graphs.

Perfect.

FREAKYFINK  I much prefer SlimBatteryMonitor over Apple's manubar battery icon. I'd love to see a universal version of this for my MacBook Pro!

AKROBAT  I was looking for something like this but seemed only to find widgets.

This developer however has not followed everyone else in developing similar widgets but has made a proper replacement for the oh so ugly and space hogging apple battery icon.

Well done! Keep up the good work.

ANONYMOUS  This is a great little program. Keep up the good work and don't sweat being able to move it around in the menu bar.

GREG CAIN  This is a great product. It does what apple does, but just a bit better - more flexible and more informative. And it's free. FREE! Thanks for making this product.

COLIN  The most requested feature for SlimBatteryMonitor is the ability to command-drag the indicator in the menu bar.

Users requesting this feature likely want to know why I haven't implemented it (although I should point out that there has always been an answer in the FAQ on the SlimBatteryMonitor website).

The answer is that Apple has taken specific actions to prevent third-party applications like SlimBatteryMonitor from being moved. These specific actions include refusing to load them entirely. There are workarounds (and yes, I am aware of MenuMeters); these workaround require a complex installer than can install a 'cracker' program into Apple's menu bar control system to defeat the checks that Apple performs.

I still hope to provide this functionality in the future, but it isn't as easy as flipping a switch... it will likely require that SBM be split into a system preference pane and a pretending-to-be-like-an-apple-menu-extra.

Regards,

Colin

TOM  It doesn't support command-dragging, how else am I supposed to change it's placement in my menu bar?

Oh well, Apple's does what I need.

Anyone tried hacking the icons for the apple supplied battery monitor? I'd think that replacing the images with thinner ones would achieve the same goal as this software.

PAUL LIEBER  This application is a must-have for portable owners. The color-changing indicator + added informational features are worth their weight in gold.

One of the best freeware programs out there.

MICHAEL  I like this program a lot! The only feature I'd like to request would be the ability to change processor performance from the menu. That would make this app perfect.

SERGILLO  I think it's not an essential app. It doesn't give any options more than system indicator. Sorry.

COLIN  Hmm... A bit confused by your review.

Did you see the preferences item in the menu? The big difference against Apple's monitor is that SlimBatteryMonitor can change displays (including disappearing) depending on your battery or UPS charge / power state. Besides that, SBM offers icon shape choices, uses easy-to-spot colour instead of tiny pictures and -- did I mention it's Slim? Tiny compared to Apple's monitor if you use the thin rectangular shape...

Hope you'll try SBM again to experience the difference!

BILL  I like it a lot, better than Apple's battery monitor. It saves me quite a bit of space on my Pismo's limited menubar. Being able to change the colors depending on whether it's charging, full or running on batteries is *great*.

I only gave it a 4 for features because I can't move it around like Apple's, but as I understand it, that's because Apple uses a proprietary software module to allow that.

Keep up the good work!

ANDREW HAAS  a LOT better than the standard icon, with one downside-you can't hold down command and move it to where you want on the menu bar. That was something I really wanted-to be able to put it where the other icon was. Other than that it is definately something you can't be without once you have it.
