SHATFIELD After messing with Synergy on the PC platform, this was like a breath of fresh air, just like working on the MAC platform should be. It was so easy to set up that I had 2 Macs working side by side in less than 20 seconds. Seriously! Very intuitive, very easy, and very well thought out. 5 stars! (Version 1.0.2)

ASMEURER This works great, except there are two bugs that bother me quite a bit. First, the mouse occaisionally will dissappear on the controling computer. Click will make it reappear, but it is still quite annoying as you can imagine. Second, when double tap is enabled, moving the mouse to the top of the screen and clicking causes the foreground window to move into the background instead of click on the menubar as expected. UNCOY If you've looked around at KVM switches you've seen that they are pretty dicey. Either they don't work or are buggy or the video doesn't pass through well. If you can manage to get your video going into a monitor with multiple inputs (preferably all digital!), you don't need a KVM switch any longer. Teleport will get you there better and faster, with clipboard switching and file transfer. And it takes all of two minutes (1 minute per Mac to configure - don't forget to have a quick look at the read me on the way) Unbelievably and very generously, Teleport is donationware. After the onslaught of crappy and overpriced shareware the Mac has had to put up with in the last couple of years (enough to make one think of switching to Linux), it's nice to see a developer creating high quality donationware. I sent in $20. I hope others are doing the same. If Teleport is still running as smoothly in a year, I'll send Julien another donation. (Version 1.0.1)

AKROBAT Brilliant little application. It's replaced my reliance on DropCopy... which is still fairly good in my opinion. One thing I noticed is that Drag and Drop from Tiger/Leopard machines to a Jaguar machine and visa versa doesn't seem to work. The option is activated but greyed out in Jaguar. All in all a great piece of software, and a decent alternative to Remote Desktop if you're the Macs you want to control are closeby. (Version 1.0.1)

MATTGEE This program is fantastic. I use it to control a mac media center from my laptop. The latest version adds support for zooming, which was the only flaw I'd encountered. There is a similar utility called Synergy (not the sync utility of the same name) which is cross platform. But if you're using macs, this is definitely superior. The bonjour support makes it super easy to get started. And the details like drag-and-drop, clipboard syncing, and arranging remote displays are very well executed. (Version 1.0.1)

DJCZ Wow, this is a really cool piece of software and it will come in quite handy! The only problem I have found is, if you energize your screen saver and it locks the screen, you cannot return the cursor back to the controlling machine and you are forced to use the Emergency de-activate key sequence (Control-Option-Shift-Esc). Other than that, it seems to work great. (Version 1.0.1)

SMTIPS A couple of observations: First, the documentation doesn't describe anywhere what the physical connections of the macs are supposed to be. It just basically says...install the software and you can control two macs. Well how, exactly? This isn't a simplistic question...how does this work? Across the net, do I need both computers plugged into a router, do I need KVM hardware or what? Please explain to a newbie "mac-sharer" in detail exactly what I need to do to use this software, from step one as if I didn't know a thing. STARTING with how to physically connect my macs to make your software work. Second, in the read me it says: "Note: File transfers are limited to 512M." That is really, really unfortunate. Many files, such as divx movies and just complete folders full of music, are way bigger than 512 megs. This seems worse to me than the 1-gb file size limit in Mac OS 9. Do you have any plans to get around whatever is causing this limit in your application? (Version 1.0.1)

153957PHOTOGRAPHY "teleport uses Bonjour to find available hosts. For controlling them, it catches the events of the master computer, sends me on the network using TCP, and uses some native CoreGraphics calls on the slave computer." well Bonjour is a dead give away.. local networks.. so connect them either via ethernet/internet sharing/wireless/... You have a MacBook and an iMac SIDE BY SIDE, each one with its own built-in display and a keyboard. You are sitting IN FRONT OF both displays. The goal is that you want to work on both Macs simultaneously somehow. Without Teleport, in order to work on your OTHER Mac you need to "switch" physically by moving your hands to the other keyboard/trackpad/mouse. With Teleport, you keep your hands on ONE Mac. You only "beam" your pointer/keyboard input to your other Mac via network connection. In other words: Teleport ONLY makes sense if you have DIRECT VISUAL CONTROL of all your Macs' displays. It is your VIRTUAL KVM switch. For other networking uses Teleport is likely the wrong tool. Use VNC, Personal File Sharing or whatever method fits best. E.g. for transferring >1GB files you likely might want to try Personal File Sharing first... (Version 1.0.1)

GARYI Can I just say this is one of the most awesome pieces of software I have come across. It just works flawlessly and is so intuitive I am surprised apple has not purchased it off you. After a minutes use it did not even occur to me the complexity involved in dragging a document from one screen to the other, I just assumed it would work, and sure enough it did. Thats what good software is all about. Kudos for keeping it free mate. (Version 1.0)

TOMIS 1.0 adds the ability to get rid of any visual indicators, making the virtual KVM experience completely seamless. There are a couple bugs still. Mainly with teleport remembering disconnected displays and not letting me re-arrange current ones if they overlap the disconnected ones. Deleting the prefs always solves this. Absolutely essential for someone with a desktop and laptop. Apple really should hire this guy. The setup and usage is dead easy. (Version 1.0)

THELONIOUSMONK045 Both elegant and useful, I stumbled upon this software because of issues with Synergy. My only issue in using the software was attempting to transfer a larger folder from one Mac to another (7 MB), as the progress bar just froze up on me and completely locked up my host machine. LKM This application is simply awesome. I would gladly buy 20 bucks for it - the fact that it is free makes it even awesomer (and the fact that this application exists makes it neccessary for me to invent words like awesomer, because awesome alone just doesn't cut it). I just switched from a MythTV box to a Mac mini hooked up to my TV. Now I can control the Mac mini using my MacBook, which is sitting on the table anyway. I can use the Mac mini as if I had a wireless keyboard and mouse. I can even drop files to and from the mini, and I can copy something on the MacBook and paste it on the mini or vice-versa - great if I'm installing an app on the mini and need to type my password and paste the registration number which is stored on the MacBook. In short, this is an utterly astonishingly cool and useful application. It feels so natural, it's almost as if it was a part of the OS itself. (Version 0.10pr4)

CHRIS This isn't really a tip or hint, its more of a question. In the teleport preference pane I drag the screen of the computer that I want to connect to next to my screen. When I do this a drop down box comes down and says its requesting authentication from the other computer. I told the other computer to automatically accept from that host. After that teleport works fine in terms of going back and forth between each computer, but in the preference pane the drop down box never leaves. Its not to big of a deal because the program still works and I can minimize the system preference window, but I can't add any other computers after the first one. Any hints? (Version pre2.1)

µøËË´¥ I had install problems too - the following worked for me: 1. Install the prefPane on ALL Macs you plan on using Teleport with. Seems obvious, but I learned the hard way... 2. If OS X doesn't automatically install the prefPane when you double click it, manually install it in /System/Library/PreferancePanes/ then RESTART THE COMPUTER! 3. Once you get the prefPane to come up in System Preferances, you MUST drag and drop the availbale screen(s) next to each other. For example, if you have three networked Macs (call them A, B, and C), and want A on the left, B on the right, and C to not use Teleport, you drag A and B next to each other then leave C alone. 4. Even though you'll need only one mouse and one keyboard AFTER TELEPORT IS ACTIVATED, you still need a keyboard/mouse physicaly attached to each Mac IN ORDER TO ACTIVATE TELEPORT. Allowing remote control requires authorization, which can't be given remotely. Once again, seems obvious, but... 5. Keyboard shortcuts for the Finder may not work on the controlled computer. Hey, it's prerelease software, can't really complain. (Version pre2.1)

JOSEPH HUMFREY Fantastic - I've been waiting for something like this for a long long time! Teleport does the job pretty well. I like the prefpane - simple but very effective. It does have a few stability problems - it seems to frequently stop functioning, and I have to switch it off and on before it works again. Also, I have rarely got the shared clipboard to work. However since this is a preview release these things can be forgiven. I think teleport has a LOT of potential, and I am looking forward to updates in the future. I'd love to see improved stability, and more advanced features such as dragging files between computers to copy them, and dragging finder windows to mount and open the respective folder remotely on the other computer. YARRAMALONG The only thing I see is a box telling me that my computer is controlling my other computer. Nothing else happens. Can somebody tell me what I do wrong? (Version pre2)

JASON This app works awesome, when it is working. I run it on an iBook G3 800MHz, and on a iMac with an 15" TFT Display and once in a while one of the computers will quit running teleport and will leave me stranded it whatever computer the cursor was in when the other quit. Then I run Chicken of the VNC into the other machine and turn-off Teleport then turn it back on and then it works for a while more. When the bugs get kicked out of this program it will be very, very good. It saves me a bunch of desktop space, and being a student I need all I can get. (Version pre2)

ANONYMOUS Simply outstanding! I've been looking for an app like this forever. A little buggy, but's it's a prerelease and that's okay. Go French man, go! (Version pre2)

JON This app does its job great. But only for Macs. If you need to do this with a windows or linux machine, or even a pocketPC, heh, you can use osx2x. It allows you to do the same thing using VNC, so you can do this exact thing with any operating system. I have an imac to the left of me and a pc to the right, and use osx2x to get to both of them. when i bring my iBook upstairs i just launch a vnc server on that machine and boom, i can access that too. This teleport is great, for just macs, but if you need other OS's then check out osx2x. I'd like to see the developer get rid of the lag when going from one computer to the next though.. JON Cross platofrm support is a must. Im using a PC and a Mac, and getting similar a ( if not quite as simple ) effect using vnc server on the mac and win2vnc on the pc. You should have a look at the synergy project on sourceforge, and see if you can use their protocol to hook the systems. Rendezvous usage is cool. (Version pre2)

EBBY Awesome little program. I sometimes have my laptop next to my desktop and it is cool only using 1 keyboard and mouse. The only suggestion I have is to add a "Always accept from host" so I don't have to confirm every time. I know this can be risky from a security point of view, but I use passwords on both my machines on a encrypted closed network. And none of my neighbors are computer savvy. :) At least those who want it can have it. (Version pre2)

ANONYMOUS Great little PrefsPanel. I use it on PMacG4/400 and a PowerBook G4/12" with a Bluetooth Mouse/Keyboard. Worked instantly, no configuration, apart from dragging the windows in the PrefsPanel. What doesn't work is a possibility to control my 3d Mac, a dual-monitor G4/800. From this G4/800 I cannot get it to control other Macs. From the G4/400 and the PBG4 I can control the main monitor of the G4/800, but not the second monitor. Keep up the good work! ROBERT CURTIS This is truly excellent! Great fun, but utterly pointless for me as my two computers are in different rooms - so I can control the screen of the other comp, but then have to run into the room to see it! (Version pre1)

HELLSTUDIOS What a great idea! I usually have my iBook sitting next to the Powermac, and am constantly trying to get the mouse to go over to the iBook for whatever reason, only to have it bounce off the side of the monitor, and I go "Duh!" This would be a great app, if I could get it to work. I don't know if maybe it's because the Powermac has 2 monitors, or perhaps something to do with only having a 10baseT hub, but something goes askew, and the mouse doesn't go to where it should be. Overall, I think the package is professionally put together, and a genius step up from VNC (sort of like an Apple approach to VNC might be). Unfortunately there is a few things: 1. I can't get it to work 2. The Layout View / dragging is somewhat flaky - dragging from 'Controllable hosts' sometimes moves the whole pane; on the iBook it's extreme 3. dual monitors appear to not be supported (Version pre1)

ANONYMOUS Whoa! This is one cool little program. I ran into a bug or something but restarted my computers and it worked great. I didn't expect it to be so fast. I thought there would be some lag but nope. Keep up the great work! (Version pre1)
