GENESIS2010 Have been using DVDxDV for two years now, version 1.09 on a pair of MacG5s; my experience is that if you have a DVD that is about 3GB full or less, it works fine. The app takes a long time to load the DVD. But if you have a 4GB, the problems abound! Additionally, if you have made your DVD from a videotape with some control track that is not continuous, the app fails on a number of fronts. For the past couple of days I've been trying to make a .mov file from one of four tracks on a DVD that I made from a VHS tape. The app does not recognize much of the track; just the last 20%. I've given up on DVDxDV! If only I could recover my lost time in past couple days! **Also, many of the glowing reviews in here seem suspiciously bogus and shallow! Caveat Emptor! (Version 1.0919)

DONNA A. It works great and is very simple to use. I just select the DVD, make my export selections, and let it go while I'm working on other projects. It couldn't be easier. I've used the "regular" version for years and finally upgraded to the Pro version and am happy with it. When I sent a question to technical support I had a prompt reply. (Version 1.089)

NCIANCA $80 bucks to basically change the file extension and fix time code breaks and still requires the MPEG-2 codec? A .VOB file on a DVD is nothing more then an MPEG-2 file. Assuming you have the Apple Quicktime MPEG-2 codec ($30 or included with Final Cut) all you have to do is copy the VOB file(s) to your drive, rename the file's extension to .MPG or .m2v and use MPEG Streamclip (free) to fix the timecode breaks and optionally convert it to any other format such as DV or H.264 or whatever. MPEG Streamclip can also be used to split the video using in/out points so that you do not need to post process the entire file. Note that this does not work with VOB files that are encrypted with CSS but works perfectly with any CSS free DVD. (Version 1.089)

NATHANIEL JOHNSTON DVDxDVPro is an excellent application that is intuitive to operate and offers many options for the casual and professional user alike. In addition, I find their customer support to be quick and positive. I have been a satisfied customer for over 3 years now. (Version 1.088)

HYPERLINK I've used DVDxDV and DVDxDV Pro for years and have co-workers who use it heavily, daily. I agree that MPEG Streamclip does most of the same things and more. One thing that Streamclip doesn't do is handle DVD's from DVD's from DVD Recorders well. There is a lengthy process where you have to "Fix Timecode Breaks". DVDxDV or the Pro version is much more efficient to work with if your DVD's come from stand-alone DVD Recorders. My main gripe is that DVDxDV and the pro version leave jaggies in areas of high color saturation and movement. Seems like some kind of interlacing artifact. MPEG Streamclip seems to handle the same footage with a more pleasing effect to me. (Version 1.087)

KATHYH This program was exactly what I was looking for. It's a simple, easy to use program to extract clips from burned DVDs. I am creating a tribute video for a basketball team and need to break down the game DVDs from the coach into highlight clips for each senior and this program does it with ease. I can precisely cut the clips I want, name them and save them as Quicktime files that will import into either I-Movie or Final Cut for me to create my final product. I highly recommend it. GCRAIGA This program has a buggy interface and problems when trying to do batch conversions. I discovered MPEG Streamclip 1.7 which has a better interface, it's less buggy and most importantly FREE. Tip - Don't use the DV setting built into the program because the audio does not import into final cut without rendering. Instead, use the Quicktime export and enter the QT settings for DV manually. FRANK MATHERS MPEGStream Clip doesn't decode DVDs correctly. You can't get the same results with MPEGStream Clip as you can with DVDxDV Pro. If you are having a problem with DVDxDV, contact support@dvdxdv.com. (Version 1.084)

SHOTGUNWEDDINGS Excellent tool of it's kind for video conversion with some very useful options. For those that scoff at the price, there is a lighter version which is cheaper, but you get what you pay for then, less options & control! Works for me with 10.4.6 and various outputs to QuickTime flavours. (Version 1.0.82)

ANONYMOUS $80.00? But the program that created the iDVD in the first place was only $49.00 and it came with iTunes, iPhoto, IMovie and iDVD. Is it me, or is there something odd about doubling the fee and giving us only one thing it can do? Obviously, the source material that made the iDVD in the first place should have been backed up as a single file (data burn), or simply bounced back to the CamCorder that made it in the first place. Who is not doing this? Why would you NOT do this?? It takes just seconds to burn a copy of the raw footage file as an image file, and that IS free. When I think of all the programs I get from MacUpdate.com and what some of them do to make life easier - normally shareware for around $10.00 max - this seems to be way over priced. I know for years it's fashionable to rip off MAC users by adding the owrd "PRO" to the title and charge 5 times what the PC users pay for the same thing, but this price tag is a bit over the top, don't you think?? I think you are just begging for someone to put this on Limewire if you ask my opinion. (Version 1.05)

ANONYMOUS MPEGStream Clip only operates on parts of the DVD. It can only read small sections of the DVD and doesn't offer a complete solution by any means for extracting DVDs. DVDxDV Pro offers high quality extraction and it allows you to read the entire DVD, not just individual pieces. (Version 1.042)

SMITH DV Absolutely False. With MPEG Stream Clip you copy EVERY VIDEO on a DVD. If you want the menus and since you only permit to copy "unprotected" DVD, the simplets way is, in this case, to copy the files froms VIDEO_TS folder to your Hard drive. MPEG STREAM CLIP IS FRE FRE FRE and really Pro and perfect. (Version 1.05)

ANONYMOUS Yeah. I think the original post here was the developer, a friend, or--less likely--completely ignorant. MPEGStream Clip is a total (Pro) rocker. Auto-reverting to 16:9 sounds good, but not $80 good. Maybe $3 good... maybe. Think I'll send the MPEGStream Clip folks $80, instead, in the spirit of good-hearted programming. (Version 1.05)

ANONYMOUS Can someone tell me why one should pay $80 for this application when "MPEG Streamclip" seems to accomplish the same thing for free? (Version 1.042)

ANONYMOUS MPEG Stream Clip doesn't allow you to view the entire DVD. It can only operate on individual VOB files. MPEGStream clip doesn't support 24 bit audio export. MPEGStream clip requires the Apple MPEG2 Quicktime plug-in which has a difficult reading time certain types of DVDs. (Version 1.042)

ANONYMOUS DVDxDV Pro requires the Quicktime MPEQ 2 plugin as well! (Version 1.05)

KATHYH If it's doable for free as easily, please tell me how. I couldn't find anything with as easy an interface to simply extract clips from burned DVDs that were given to me. The original source material was not available. So..... this seems perfect. (Version 1.086)

MACUS Some time ago I purchased an $80 license for this program. No information on upgrades. The upgrades listed on MacUpdate or VersionTracker link only to demo versions of the program which cannot be registered. I have over the last 4 weeks sent six emails to the developers asking for info on obtaining the intermediate upgrades to which I should be entitled. Not a single response. What an incredible waste of money. (Version 1.021)
