SECTION8  i love this game. it just needs to have some of the complexity of EV Nova, then it would be amazing. Now, i know thats probably the plan for the future, but even as is, this game is very fun to play for some reason :p

Anyways, i found a bunch of bugs.

• Crashes constantly for unknown reasons

• Music does not loop once its done playing its track. (good music, btw)

• Turret tracking system is close to useless because it lags behind moving targets just slightly so in order for them to be effective at all you have to be right behind your target.

• FPS jumping from 200 to 0 every 5 seconds.

• Even if a turret is shooting at a target right in front of you, sometimes it will miss constantly because it is shooting at the target brackets but it is not hitting the actual target

all these combined makes the game almost unplayable, which is really unfortunate because this is an awesome idea. its what Ambrosia missed out on.

PAUL DORMAN  I have found the problem... I hard-coded some stuff for 1152x864 resolution. If your monitor supports this, you should be fine. Otherwise, I ought to have a new build out in a few days to fix this and some other stuff.

MFWILLS  Is something supposed to happen after I click "New Player?"

The music continues, the "Cancel" button brightens, but that's it. Nothing else but the game logo.

PAUL DORMAN  I'm guessing that it's a missing font issue. It's supposed to say "enter your name" at that screen. You could try entering a name and then hit return, which ought to take you to the next screen.

PIXELJUNKEY  BUG: when i jump into 3rd person view, I get stuck in that view. I cannot go back to the "front" view or even rear view. Also there needs to be some preferences for controlling the beep sounds. A screen at the beginning of the game describing the objective would also be good.

PAUL DORMAN  I was just alerted to the fact that I forgot to include the FScript Framework with the binary, so if you downloaded 0.6.5 and it crashed on launching, please try 0.6.5b, in which I have included the necessary framework. Thanks!

PAUL  I have been alerted to the problem with 10.4, and am working to correct it. Unfortunately I don't have 10.4, myself, so it will be kind of slower, but I am confident that it will soon be working. Thanks for your interest!

ANONYMOUS  On Tiger version 0.60 only presents a black screen with a standard cursor. A force quit is needed [in the blind] to regain the computer control. I sent a crash dump to the author.

I have dual monitors on my ATI9800 Pro but the old 0.5.10 version used to work under Panther.

DAVE  I think this game is showing a lot of potential. You can already see the influence of Escape Velocity, Elite from the 80's, etc beginning to form. I will be keeping my eye on this games development. It is a chance for us to see a great game progress from humble beginnings.

PAUL  Is there anything in particulate you can specifically identify that makes it hard to control? I have played other 3D games, and I agree that control here is different, but I think it's easy once you get used to it. I am quite willing to change it how people want, though.

Is it the default key layout, or the mouse control, or the response, or something else entirely, that makes it difficult to control?

I do appreciate your feedback, and will do my best to make this how you want it.

ANONYMOUS  Have mercy on us long-time flight sim fans...include an option to reverse the Y-axis with mouse control, I beg you! Input sprocket support would be great, too...

The look and feel of the game has improved, though the limited amount of dive/climb is a bit frustrating (though necessary without redisigning the navigation, I suppose).

I must agree with a previous reviewer that the solar systems seem a bit small, and range-to-target is very short compared to most first person perspective games, which makes tracking an object near impossible.

Stopped responding and crashed suddenly on an "Employment" window.

WILL L.  I believe it is Moonlight Sonata, just on a bad synthesizer. Beethoven doesn't go with sci-fi. Change it. Oh, and the controls are pretty bad. The dev should try playing Vendetta Online. It could teach him something about graphics too. That game is beautiful.

ANONYMOUS  Seems like it has a bit potential. But for all of you, including me, who wants an EV 3D with better graphics, check out 'X2 - The Threat'. It's not EV but it's one of the best games I've ever played. It's due to Mac release in Q3 2004.

RORY  I have more suggestions:

• Give a reason to shoot other ships (right now, all fighting does is waste ammo and lower shields. Have ships drop powerups, money, be able to steal ships, etc.)

• Give a reason to trade (have different planets give more for them, have changing prices, etc.)

• Stop moon flickering (when you are far away from a planet, sometimes the moon/asteroids/whatever-they-are flicker as they zoom past

• Add an option to increase distance ships can go from a planet (so you have time to shoot them; if you used a Stinger, it's a big loss!)

ANONYMOUS  Ready for prime time it's not but it really shows some promise. The graphics are not bad. Speed could be faster. The controls are easy to figure out and customizable if you can't. If you've played EV then you can figure out what to do. It's really good for a 0.5 Beta version. I can't wait for the 1.0 release.

The only gripe that I'll toss in here is that I couldn't figure out how to quit. I was having to Ctrl-Apple-Escape to force quit out of it.

I think you've got a really good start here. The ratings I've given it are ; Features 3 because while what you have there is quite good I can see a lot of room to grow. Playability 4 because even at this early stage it's fun. I actually enjoyed playing the game even in this limited early stage. Graphics and Sound 2. They are nothing fancy but they work. I did notice a few drawing artifacts as ships flew by or got really close. Stability 4. The thing ran without a problem, or freeze, or crash. It just hummed along nicely under OS 10.3.

Really good start. I think this'll be EscapeVelocity3D in about a year.

RORY  This is an okay game, but it needs four things:

• Better graphics

• A more spread-out map

• A tutorial

• A story

APPLEIDE  This game's idea is pretty good, but as the other guy said, the graphics could be improved a little, but since this is still work in progress, i assume you the developer would make a great game out of this. (Note: from here on are just my thoughts on games) Sometimes 2D games are better than 3D games because they are easier to see what is happening, some 3 D games make it so complex i cant see a thing. this game is a bit confusiong because your vision is blurred by other ships. Dont change your game just for me eve though I would never give you full marks because it would be making aa whole new game thats 2D

DAVE  As a start I would like to say I have been playing the Escape Velocity Series from Ambrosia Software (www.ambrosiasw.com) for years now. I have always hoped a 3D version would surface at one point or another. The in depth senario's and over-all quality of the EV Series made up for the lack of 3D graphics.

Event Horizon, I downloaded and started playing with no problems which is a good sign thus far. The User Interface in which the user changes the key settings, the intro to the main story line, all is serverely lacking quality and ease of use. If this game were not freeware I certainly would not have bought it as shareware. The developers need to put more thought and more work into the interface that the user uses to modify the game settings, and what not.

The next thing I went into is game play, now the graphics are not STUNNING or anything, in reality they are quite basic, something I find to be a bit annoying as all the ships are basically grey. The developers need to be a bit more creative in their making this "Spin-off" of the EV Series. I understand its not easy, but at least show some effort.

The Playability of the game was excellent, all the keys did as they were supposed to, if not a little ackwardly. The game functioned smoothly with no errors and gave me no issues whatsover. The game was stable, and the keys did what they were supposed to.

In conclusion, the idea of what the developers are doing is very good. But more work needs to be done into the graphics, and the over-all feel of the game. The interface in some places in very very clunky and in other places its nearly non-existant. With time and some creative juice I think maybe this could be the next big thing. If the developers do not heed the advice above, I believe this will flop.

ANONYMOUS  Nope, the OpenGL problem isn't fixed, I'm afraid. Crashes immediately after entering a player name.

Blaming OS X.3 doesn't wash; I don't see other, much older, OpenGL based apps crashing (VegaStrike, Reckless Drivin', DirtBike 3D, Galactic Patrol, Orbituary betas, etc). Surely changes in OpenGL implementation in the OS would have broken some of those as well...

Perhaps, just perhaps, the problem is in the game itself...?

On a side note, the Moonlight sonata is pretty, but the aural equivalent of a wet weekend. Might I suggest something a bit more spirited (by Stravinsky or Prokofiev, perhaps)?

Sorry about marking everything low, but stability is non-existent, so I can't comment on features, playability & graphics. But I am intrigued by the idea, and I hope it comes together.
