BROSSOW A workaround was posted to the Mail.appetizer mailing list yesterday. I don't have the message here on my work computer, but I believe the following is the correct procedure: 1. Ensure that Mail.app is not running. 2. Launch Terminal and enter these two commands: defaults write com.apple.mail EnableBundles 1 defaults write com.apple.mail BundleCompatibilityVersion 3 3. Move the Mail.appetizer bundle from the folder ~/Library/Mail/Bundles (Disabled) back to ~/Library/Mail/Bundles. 4. Launch Mail.app -- all should be well again. Hope this is right -- going from memory and using an XP machine at work so I can't verify. At worst it won't work but won't do any damage. :-) (Version 1.2b4)

BROCK SAMSON Tried this workaround for Leopard. It worked, except that I'm seeing all the HTML tags in the Mail.appetizer window for all non-plain text emails. (Version 1.2b4)
| Nov 1 2007 |
GROOVYDAVE Workaround for Leopard works for notifications but not for choosing "Delete", "View", etc. options at the bottom of the notifications unfortunately. Emailed the developer hoping upon hope that he will be updated Mail.Appetizer. Very sad to live without it... (But I can live with this workaround for now...) (Version 1.2b4)
| Nov 1 2007 |
BROSSOW Should note here that it seems even with the workaround above, full functionality isn't gonna happen with the current version of M.a and Leopard. Specifically, the buttons don't work as expected, HTML messages are shown as raw source, and only new messages in the Inbox are shown -- new messages filtered to other folders do not show up. :-( (Version 1.2b4)
| Nov 26 2007 |

any other tips ? (Version 1.2b4)
| Nov 29 2007 |
BROSSOW Best tip after using the workaround for a few days is this: wait for an update from the author. The functionality is so limited with the workaround that it's not worth messing with. :-( (Version 1.2b4)
| Nov 29 2007 |
BROCK SAMSON I'm not holding my breath for an update - it's been 2+ years since the last one... guess I'll try (again) to make Growl/GrowlMail work dependably. (Version 1.2b4)
| Nov 29 2007 |
BROSSOW To be completely fair, prior to Leopard's release there was utterly no need for an update since the last version, however long ago it may have been. It worked perfectly and did absolutely everything it was intended to do, and it did it FOR FREE. Perhaps if you sent the author of this FREE software $129 so he could purchase his own copy of 10.5 there'd be an update coming along a little more quickly. Until someone does that, however, expecting a developer to shell out $129 in order to update FREE software is unreasonable at best. (Version 1.2b4)

BIGDAVE56 Adds very useful functionality and as someone else said, don't know what I'd do without it. Feels like an integral part of the app, which is the highest compliment I can give a third-party plug-in. All software should be this good. I want to know about Leopard-readiness also. XBOXDRUGGIE This plug-in is stellar! It does what it states and does it impressively well. It was first located because I needed some sort of notifier to let me know when I get emails. Well this pop-up window is perfect! It gives complete control to the end-user, which mail boxes to display mail in, header info, hide after time amount... just flawless! I also enjoy being able to interact with the mail message directly from the notification (delete, view) without switching to Mail; though my only request would be to please add a reply arrow :) Please keep up the good work! ANONYMOUS I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, but when I click the "Show message in Mail" button it brings up the main Mail window, but not the message itself. ANONYMOUS This is the one single thing I lost on my Mac that left me incomplete when I upgraded to Tiger. I don't know why, but Mail.appetizer was always something I loved and sorely missed. Switching to Growl did not satisfy my yearning. Now, I couldn't get it to work at first -- Tried restarting Mail and then the Mac, but what finally got it going was when I chose "Custom" for which mailboxes I wanted for notification. Then I checked off the .Mac account while leaving my Inbox checked on (which is my .Mac account). I don't know if this affected it or not, but it's working fine now. (Version 1.2b1)

JACK A quick - but somewhat unnecessary - comment. Why unecessary, you ask? Because we all know very well that this little app is absolutely perfect. It's implementation into Mail.app is flawless, its functionality brilliant, and its aesthetics unparalleled. Perfect, that is, except for its lack of Tiger compatability. I would be remiss if i didn't mention how OFTEN i use this app, and how crucial - however sad that is - it has become to my daily work habits. Thus, i am deeply saddened that i must live without it in Tiger. Yes, i know the developer is hard at work on an update, but let me be the first one to how EXTREMELY EAGER I am to see this again in Tiger. Growl is nice, but it's nothing like this.

TOM This App does exactly what you want. It is easy to install and easy to use. Before this I used an apple script to alert me and speak new mail headers to me. But in an office this is rather annoying for your colleges. Mail.appetizer does this by a simple elegant window appearing. With one click you can dismiss it or open your message. It is one of the most simple apps, elegant to use and I could not imagine my work without it after only a week of usage. (Version 1.1b1)

Future options I'd love to see -- choose colors and delay times to vary between mailboxes (or as a rules option if that could be linked in), as well as different locations on the screen for different mailboxes, so e.g. non-work and work mail is clearly segregated. CONSTANT COOLSMA Same here with OSX 10.3.4 and Mail 1.3.8 (v618). Tried several times, but no notification comes up. Perhaps because I'm using Dutch as main language for OSX and Mail? (Version 1.0rc4)

STEFAN SCHüÃLER If the notification does not show up in the preferences, you have a corrupt version (this was available for about half an hour). Please download Mail.appetizer again in this case. (Version 1.0rc4)

CONSTANT COOLSMA After the first install I changed in the preferences the font to Lucida. Perhaps that didn't work out well. After a new install without any changes to the preferences Mail Appetizer is working as it should do. I like it! Thanx to Stefan for this tiny but very helpful program. (Version 1.0rc4)

NECRISREX I've been putting off commenting on this app which I started trying to use at 1.0rc2. The developer has had a breakneck speed with moving through the following two release candidates to this one. I must say that the developer has fixed every problem I had experienced. I find this to be the most useful addition to Mail.app since Mail scripts. I can't say enough about this notification application. Try it, you may love it. I only wish that I could customize the window a bit more, making it go thinner (I keep it set to appear stretched across hte bottom of my screen). I would also like to be able to add sound notifications to this window as Mail.apps sound is out of sync with it. Even without that it is a phenomally useful application. I Love It. SAINTS1 Works perfect for me. I have been running it for about 3 days now and absolutely no problems with Mail. I have had no crashes and the product works as described! Great job! The one thing I would really like to see added to this little plugin is to be able to click on links in the window. There are links but you cannot click on it and go to that page. Other than that I like it a lot! (Version 1.0rc3)

STEFAN SCHüÃLER I've accidentally uploaded a slightly outdated version. It was available for about 4 hours and has been replaced now. Please download Mail.appetizer again if you have an IMAP account and junk mail is shown. (Version 1.0rc3)

WHYTOI Great idea! But do people realise this is a copy of a new feature from Micro$oft's new Entourage? No criticism of copying but still a very very useful feature. (Version 1.0rc3)

MACSTERDAM Wonderful and very useful idea but current version render my mail application unstable up to the point of crashing all the time. Will follow the development of this and use it util it is stable. So, 4 to 5 stars for everything except stability. The latter get a big 1 star in my case. (Version 1.0rc2)

DIK-BRAH I too love this little plug-in and have used it for a long time, but have also yanked it until th is a bit more stable. I wish I kept a copy of the older version, I never had a single problem with it. (Version 1.0rc1)

RB3 I used the 0.9 version for a long time. It often did not display, but I also felt it did not screw anything up. This new RC version has crashed mail twice on me today (under 10.3.4), so for the moment, I've yanked it. I love the idea, so I hope he can fix the issue(s). (Version 1.0rc1)

ANONYMOUS It works great... when it works. I got some weird behaviors from Mail after installing this plug: wouldn't display new mail when highlighted, and Mail unexpectedly quit a couple of times when clicking on the app window. Very nice idea but too unstable at the moment. (Version 1.0rc1)

ANONYMOUS From the website: Unfortunately there seems to be a bug with IMAP and .Mac accounts. Users reported that notifications are not be shown for these kind of accounts. I'm working on this problem and will update the current version as soon as it is solved. (Version 1.0rc1)

ANONYMOUS Love it! I've been hoping for this feature, and now it's here! Very easy to install, thanks to the installer. It would be nice to see more features incorporated into future versions such as font prefs, and options to change the size of the floater, but overall, I'm really pleased. Thanks to much!!! MAILBUGGIE Oh man...this has SO much potential. This would get 5 stars all the way if you could control the window placement, window dimensions, and type size (kind of like the floating Synergy pref pane). I've been looking for a simple solution like this. (Version 0.9)

ANONYMOUS Just what I needed Amazing!!! 1. Make it show the message without opening mail. 3. Ability to eliminate notification with a click. 4. Ability to check specific accounts. I would really like to see this app evolving, sending my donation thanks:) (Version 0.9)

ANONYMOUS Just installed this, and it's really nice. Does exactly what it says. I work with sound off, so I like getting this kind of notification. Requests: (1) window resizing; (2) window and font color options; (3) maybe even a flashing feature, so it will appear and disappear 2, 3, or however many times you want? Good work. (Version 0.9)
