BROSSOW  A workaround was posted to the Mail.appetizer mailing list yesterday. I don't have the message here on my work computer, but I believe the following is the correct procedure:

1. Ensure that Mail.app is not running.

2. Launch Terminal and enter these two commands:

defaults write com.apple.mail EnableBundles 1

defaults write com.apple.mail BundleCompatibilityVersion 3

3. Move the Mail.appetizer bundle from the folder ~/Library/Mail/Bundles (Disabled) back to ~/Library/Mail/Bundles.

4. Launch Mail.app -- all should be well again.

Hope this is right -- going from memory and using an XP machine at work so I can't verify. At worst it won't work but won't do any damage. :-)

MUNEY  I installed mail.appetizer and enabled it through the mail pref. pane, but nothing happens when I get new mail.. no notification comes up. I tried various settings to no avail.

I was using two screens but tried also with just my laptop. I have a Powerbook G4 running latest version of tiger. Am using IMAP mailboxes with mail being sent by my mail filter rules from my inbox to other IMAP folders.. I disabled all other mail plugins, that didn't help.

It does what it states and does it impressively well. It was first located because I needed some sort of notifier to let me know when I get emails. Well this pop-up window is perfect!

It gives complete control to the end-user, which mail boxes to display mail in, header info, hide after time amount... just flawless!

I also enjoy being able to interact with the mail message directly from the notification (delete, view) without switching to Mail; though my only request would be to please add a reply arrow :)

ANONYMOUS  I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, but when I click the "Show message in Mail" button it brings up the main Mail window, but not the message itself. In the previous version, you could click on the message header and it would bring up the actual message in mail, not just the main Mail window. SILVER  after installing this I launched mail which alerted to me that the "mailbox index is damaged", fortunately Mail.app offered to repair the index next time I launch it. After a five minute repair of the index it launched ok, but the index wasn't repaired properly, i had to delete about 30 email which had already been read and sorted to folders.

ANONYMOUS  This is the one single thing I lost on my Mac that left me incomplete when I upgraded to Tiger. I don't know why, but Mail.appetizer was always something I loved and sorely missed. Switching to Growl did not satisfy my yearning.

It's back!

Now, I couldn't get it to work at first -- Tried restarting Mail and then the Mac, but what finally got it going was when I chose "Custom" for which mailboxes I wanted for notification. Then I checked off the .Mac account while leaving my Inbox checked on (which is my .Mac account).

I don't know if this affected it or not, but it's working fine now.

Like right now it is ctrl-shift-click, but it would be even more convenient if I could just right click to delete a message. But otherwise the app is perfect.

TOM  This App does exactly what you want. It is easy to install and easy to use. Before this I used an apple script to alert me and speak new mail headers to me. But in an office this is rather annoying for your colleges. Mail.appetizer does this by a simple elegant window appearing. With one click you can dismiss it or open your message. It is one of the most simple apps, elegant to use and I could not imagine my work without it after only a week of usage.

NECRISREX  I've been putting off commenting on this app which I started trying to use at 1.0rc2. The developer has had a breakneck speed with moving through the following two release candidates to this one.

I must say that the developer has fixed every problem I had experienced. I find this to be the most useful addition to Mail.app since Mail scripts. I can't say enough about this notification application.

Try it, you may love it. I only wish that I could customize the window a bit more, making it go thinner (I keep it set to appear stretched across hte bottom of my screen). I would also like to be able to add sound notifications to this window as Mail.apps sound is out of sync with it.

Even without that it is a phenomally useful application. I Love It.
