DRDUL  xPad is a nice note-taking app. I like how it works with multiple documents, which can be categorized as well. I also like that it can handle inserted images, and export documents in RTF or RTFD formats.

Despite all these nice features, for my purposes it won't replace TextEdit. The main reason is that documents are saved automatically to a folder in ~/Library/Application Support. The only way to save a document elsewhere is to export it, but then I end up with two versions — the one within xPad and the exported version. There's also no option to save documents anywhere other than the default folder. If I could specify a different default folder, I could save documents in my Dropbox, and sync 'em between my Macs.

TXBUY_MAC.COM  Great app ... have really enjoyed it for some time. Only thing missing? Seamless syncing between multiple Mac computers (through .me or other method). I like it ... though with several computers I use (and now used to syncing bookmarks, passwords, and everything else) ... it is very inconvenient to go through all of my computers to find the note.

Does anyone know of a way to sync the xpad notes among all computers?

Thanks.

RENESIS  I take a lot of quick notes, I have bad memory, and I'm a neat freak. xPad to the rescue. xPad saves me the clutter of multiple text files, stores them all in one place, and allows me to access them quickly and easily. Apple should pay this guy and incorporate it in future os x releases.

UBUNTUKING  This is a fantastic note taking application. I am glad to see that version 1.2.6 fixes the leopard incompatibilities.

RICKEY939  Not all of the Leopard issues are fixed. There are some weird visual things happening when you switch from note to note on the right pane...at least they don't disappear now in this version, but visually it's borked.

JBARLEY  It appears, at least on my MBP, that Leopard has broke xPad.

It will load and run, but when I start selecting messages from the list in the drawer, things begin to fall apart.

Most evident is, as I select each title, it disappears from the list, annoying to say the least.

WATMAN  xPad is as transparent as an app gets. I do page layout in Pages, but I do all my freelance writing in xPad – it's quick, the drawer is indispensable, the colour-coding handles my organizing, the drop-down Get Info pane provides a wordcount, and the elegant/functional look satisfies the aesthete in me. Throw in autosave, and you've got one killer (free!) app.

Prior to xPad, I tried out CopyWrite and a host of dedicated writer tools. This is the only one that stuck.

BLUEMANSTEELE  When you need to just jot a quick note you can open TextEdit, however, where do you save it? If you make 20 quick notes where do you save and manage those? It gets to be a mess fast.

If you are like me and need to write quick but separate and organized notes, XPad works perfectly.

It can change the whole way you work, I write many small notes that I need to be able to find later. I also need to be able to find old note and toss them. This has been a pain in any other software.

When a note begins to grow into a full document, you can export one or all of your notes to RTF or plain text and go from there.

This has been a great app and I use it every day. There are some terrific software for huge documents such as books or screen plays, but making many small documents has been overlooked.

I'd used something similar on PC and glad to have someting on my Mac now.

SAMANTHA MEAGAN  No matter what I do I still can not get xPad 1.2.5 disk image to mount. I create A LOT of text documents and I think I would find it very useful. Is it at all possible for someone to download it, mount the disk image and then email me the folder with the app it self and any other stuff that comes with it? If this is possible AND if someone would not mind doing this for me, just let me know. I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

SAMANTHA MEAGAN  I think this looks like a really great app and would love to try it since I do so much with documents. The only problem is no matter where I download version 1.2.5 the .dmg file will not mount. I keep getting an error message saying: "xPad_1.2.5.dmg" failed to mount due to error 95, (no mountable file systems). No matter what I do the file will not mount. I have emailed the developer almost a month ago, with no reply yet. Is this something the developer needs to fix or is there a way for me to troubleshoot it and get it to mount? I have Mac OS X 10.2.8 so it should be compatible. I'd really love to try out this app. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

MACUPDATE ADMIN  Well, I just downloaded the file and unzipped it and the .dmg mounted, no problem. You might try using a different browser to download the file.

MACUPDATE ADMIN  Maybe running some system utilties to clean up your installation of OS X would help. Can't hurt and it is a good place to start. You can use AppleJack to perform all needed repair/maintenance/clean up routines. It is easy to use just be sure to read a little about it first. You'll want to use AppleJack's "applejack auto restart" command procedure.

MACMARIA  Really nice app. I've been using it over 4 months now and it never crashed. I like the UI and it's very easy to use. Nice price too.

I wish it would allow pdf files to be zoomed. Other than that is the perfect light notepad.

FLOUNDER  While the dev doesn't much speak about the app and leaves its users to wonder what is going on. However since it was updated to be a universal binary which shows the dev working on it. It is a good app. No need to clutter your documents folder with items that you are working on but don't want to fire up word for. A simple no obtrusive text editor is great.

I think its better than text edit because it allows you to keep all of your documents in the side bar without having to search for other documents to open if you need them.

DEBBIEM  Thanks for the new version. xPad is my life line. xPad is one of the useful applications that I use. It is clean and simple. I have four huge schools. My iBook is always with me. xPad is the best way I have found to stay organized. Too much to keep in my head and too many scaps of paper. I love that I can sync it to my iPod. Great feature. My iPod travels with me too, especially in the summer. Great job.

CHRIS RUZIN  I've been using this app since it's early days, and it has become one of the most used apps on my computer. Instead of having tons of text/RTF files lying around all over the place, I have them in a single, organized app. You should see all the things I have in xPad. Linux notes, Tengwar practice and tutorials, weblog posts, etc.

The only thing I wish it had was nested categories, but this feature has been promised in a future release.

For a shade under $10, this little app is a great deal.

URBANDYKE  I've been using xPad for almost 9 months now. It's become a morning ritual for me to open it up and glance through my notes from previous days. Before xPad, I had notes jotted everywhere on my computer. I kept serial numbers in Excel sheets, snips of code in BBEdit, to-do lists in Palm Desktop. The general chaos has since subsided. xPad helps me to stay organized.

One of the main things that attracted me to xPad was the simple design and the ease of use. It's not bulky by any means. One could literally open the app, jot a few notes and simply leave it to it's own devices. You don't have to worry about saving your notes or putting the saved document in a well-organized directory. xPad takes care of everything.

I've never had a crash that wasn't my own fault. I've never lost a document. I've never had to frantically email the developers to figure out what x, y or z does or how to undo it. xPad is a well-oiled, fantastic application that is guaranteed to sit in my dock for a very long time.

At $9.99, xPad is a steal!

ANONYMOUS  This app is highly recommended.

Simple, easy to use, auto-saves your files and gives you easy access to them. Well-integrated with Mac OS X (drag and drop, etc). I especially like the "xPad > New from selection" item in the Services menu!

Would be nice to see better categorization though (next version please?)

MATHEW HOY  i'm all over xpad. it's incredible. the attention to detail on this app is amazing. all questions i've had with it (few and far between - earlier builds, actually) have been dealt with in a curteous and prompt manner. i would certainly recommend this app to anyone looking for a notes-organiser.

ANONYMOUS  great app but the author has expressed his lack of interest in further development. at best, it's progress hinges on one man's whim, at worst, it's a dead end product. don't be misled by it's professional appearance... it's a DIY.

GARRETT MURRAY  Obviously, since I've just released a new version, your comment seems a bit outdated. I do apologize for the long wait, but please know that this is only the beginning of a new and lengthy development cycle.

CHRIS RUZIN  Don't be misled? You make it sound as if the developer is trying to mislead people. Why in the world would he do something like that?

And many shareware titles are created and updated by one person. How is this any different?

Don't badmouth a great app because the developer doesn't work on your schedule.

ANONYMOUS  he misled people by posting a roadmap as part of the product. he got the money but the roadmap was completely ignored and then repeatedly promised updates never came through. this is not freeware. he charges for the product and his schedule was part of my decision to purchase it. i relied on his promises and now, over a year later, i'm still waiting. my comment is still not outdated as the developer has demonstrated once again. it all hinges on his whims.

JONATHAN  I've been using this app for a few months and can't get over how useful it is. It's like the Swiss Army Knife of apps. I use it to store all my account info for different web sites, ftp info, code snippets, wish lists, etc. And I don't have a clutter of documents anywhere because everything is saved right in the drawer.

DBROWN  I use Xpad to keep all the random text I copy and paste throughout the day together. Used to have to have like 30 Textedit windows, now I just have the one Xpad window open. Dock menu helps a lot too, and drag/drop. Great little app!

SEAN GAULT  I've done the rounds with the notebook apps and this one finally hit the spot. Very elegant and clean interface. Simple organization. The drag-and-drop support for importing/exporting is really smooth and iPod syncing is very handy. None of those rough edges that you find with most shareware. Definitely worth the ten bucks!
