GEOPICK I think NetFlix should make an effort to support third party developers who want to enable client access to their service. Freak was an early, useful tool. It would be great to see something like this for the iPhone, if it doesn't already exist. (Version 2.6.3)

ADONSA It's commendable that refunds are being offered. Letting a product go orphan without a plan to convey the source code and further development, to another developer, is not. The netflix website is a pain to use, and Netflix Freak serves an important purpose. The Netflix Freak developer should have arranged a successor developer (even Netflix) PRIOR to making it go orphan; or the source code should be provided to a responsible developer in the Open Source community. Abandoning a software is serious. Abandoning software reflects negatively upon the entire shareware and commercial developer community. The impact of software abandonment upon users is very significant and conveys distrust. The greatest word processor for any microcomputer [in its time] was Fullwrite, orphoned by Borland, International after they bought it from Ashton Tate. Heroic efforts on the part of buyers, to persuade Phillipe Kahn to revive it, fell on deaf ears. Another was Claris Emailer, in its time, it was the greatest email software in existance. Apple ordered the product abandoned, and ignored the efforts of the vast "Save Emailer" campaign. -- Talk to the Netflix staff, ask them to revive and continue upgrades to Netflix Freak. -- Talk to certified Apple Developers, ask the Apple staff to help identify a developer that can give the product a future. -- Talk to open source developers. -- Recognize, that the Netflix web page sux when it comes to managing the queue list. -- If necessary, release the source code into the public domain. -- You have a good product, do the right thing toward getting it a future. DANCINGSEA I really wanted to like this app and buy it for the sake of supporting the Mac community, but in the end, I just couldn't get into it. For me, managing my que is not a big deal. Browse for movies, add them to the que, rearrange the que every once in awhile. I don't need any management abilities beyond those basics. In that light, the Net Flix website is sufficient. Imho, on the browsing and searching for movies front (most important to me), NetFlix.com is vastly superior to this application. At NetFlix.com I prefer the little mini blurbs that appear one you rollover the movie title. I also like the way NetFlix.com displays the movie description, user reviews, and various critic reviews all on the same page. It's simply more dynamic, and in my experience, loads faster than NetFlix Freak. Yes, NetFlix Freak allows easy connections to Rotten Tomatoes, but that's about the only advantage, for my type of usage, that I could find. Simply not worth $15, imho. Perhaps this app would make sense if I had a household with multiple users and the need to juggle those accounts. YMMV, give it a try, you may like it. But until NetFlix Freak provides me with a noticeably better browsing experience than NetFlix.com, I'll have to pass. (Version 2.2)

BRYAN Netflix freak is a must have for any Mac user with a Netflix account! It allows you to not only see your queue but also movies out, a complete history, and it gives you the ability to search for movies right from the application. Probably the nicest features that aren't available from the web are the drag and drop functionality for not only reordering your queue but also for moving movies between different household member's queues. Also it's nice to be able switch between profiles simply without the need for inputting passwords every time. (Version 2.1.2)

RADIOSPY I've been a member of Netflix for years(must be going on 5 or 6 years now) and It's always been great, though the site wasn't geared toward the way I always liked to move movies around in my queue. Netflix Freak is worth every penny. From the moment I tried it, it worked great. Nabbed the information fast, let me rearange my movies by drag and drop. The value only keeps growing with cut/paste support between queues(I have seperate queue's for tv shows and movies so it's great to be able to shuffle things between them). Granted if you don't watch that many movies from netflix this may not be as useful to you, but bottom line is if you are an avid Netflix user you owe it to your self to buy this app. (Version 2.1)

ANONYMOUS Is anyone else aware that Netflix Freak "phones-home" to the little app factory? Personally I do not want Netflix Freak to connect to any server other than Netflix because that potentially gives them access to your username & password, which could give them access to your credit card #. I've seen a few decent applications that uncover **** **** **** 9834 decryptions. (Version 2.1)

ANONYMOUS If you sniff the connection, you'll see that it's asking to only to read two files on our site and does not actually send any information to our site. Here are the two files it reads: - one which contains the version number of our parsing logic file (which allows us to keep up with changes on the Netflix site without always requiring a full update to the program -- this is seamlessly done so that you don't have any interruption of functionality) - one which contains the version number of the latest application so that we can offer an update. Again, because of frequent changes at Netflix, the application could become non-functional at any time, so it's far more important to keep on the latest version of the program than with a typical application. Since not all changes to Netflix can be handled by our parsing logic file, this is a backup plan when we need to update the application. You'll also notice on launch that the status line will indicate what is happening and when ('updating parsing logic' and 'checking for new version'). - The Little App Factory (Version 2.1)

ANONYMOUS I just paid for the software. I've been playing with it for the last half hour and realised I don't want to stop using it. This makes NetFlix FUN as well as useful. I love being able to drag items around the queue, and the shuffle feature. BCWINTERS Whoa. I joined Netflix last week, and just downloaded this to try it out. It loaded my login cookie directly from Safari (!) and in an instant there was my queue, with the box cover, description, etc etc all in one spot. I rearranged the queue a bit and it updated instantaneously. Works perfectly, right out of the box. Erm, disk image. This goes directly into my essential utilities folder; it makes a great service like Netflix even handier. (Version 1.2.5)

ACRAPPA Is this stable? I like the ability to rearrange the queue in a Mac-like interface, but the program is hard to be productive with at times. I'll buy it once it's stable. (Version 1.0.1)

ANONYMOUS Are you certain that your queue contains movies that have not yet been released? Sorry for the possibly lame question, but wanted to be sure you understood what was supposed to display there. If you go to www.netflix.com/Queue in Safari, are there movies listed in the DVDs Awaiting Release section? As far as the crash, please send any crash logs to tlaf_support@mac.com and we'll take a look at them. If you're on Jaguar, there's a known crash in the Safari framework, which this program uses, but we're not aware of any other common crashers right now. (Version 1.0.1)

ACRAPPA Thanks for the response. I am new to Netflix and your program, so I'm not insulted by the elementary questions. :) The movie that I added to the list was The Last Samurai, which of course isn't on DVD yet. I wanted to remove it (I was just testing the program when I added it), and kept pressing Delete. The movie would not go away from the list. I quit the program and tried deleting the movie again. Nothing. I had to do it at Netflix.com. Another oddity was when I was trying to add movies to the queue from the find screen. Things were going well, but Godfather III simply would not add to the queue. I searched for "Godfather", added the first two movies, but the third movie would not add. I pressed the Add button and nothing. I tried it several times. Again, I had to go to Netflix.com to get it on my list. I am running Netflix Freak with Mac OS X 10.3.2 on a dual GHz G4. I will send any futures classes to you via e-mail. (Version 1.0.1)

ACRAPPA The program has an issue with remembering column sizes, too. When I resize the "Available" column to be smaller, quit Netflix Freak, and launch it again, it's back to the default size. Positions work though (i.e. rearranging the order of the columns). (Version 1.0.1)
| Dec 9 2003 |
ACRAPPA Also, would it be possible to have the search field be resizable? I think that it would be nice to have it a bit longer. When searching for a longer title or name, the search field looks a bit strange: http://members.cox.net/acrappa/netflixbug.png By the way, if I'm annoying you, then just say so. :) (Version 1.0.1)
