ANONYMOUS  On the download page for mac (latest version is 4.5.6 BTW), a click on the dmg file redirects you to "http://support.ati.com/ics/support/DLRedirect.asp?fileIDExt=9f3d342d38e036a9137ef3e270d9d79c&accountID=737&deptID=894", which if on Safari creates an endless popup loop, and on Firefox creates a page that keeps reloading itself with javascript errors.

In other words, you can't download the file until ATI gets their ass together and fixes the download page.

SHERUB2001@YAHOO.COM  Something tells me from LOTS of experience (of screwing around with my computer needlessly) that if your Mac works fine BEFORE you install firmware/software, you probably don't need it in the first place.

This won't "over-clock" your video card so why take the risk of having something horrible happen to your Mac.

ANONYMOUS  Tried everything possible to input a trouble ticket. All 4 browsers on my Mac, IE on a Windows machine. Can't choose the "manufacturer" pull down. Can't submit a trouble ticket without this. No way to get through to support. REALLY FRUSTRATING. These guys obviously don't care about their customers.

Here is my problem. installed the card, installed the software on the CD, everything was fine. Installed the latest firmware for the card, everything was fine. Installed the latest Radeon software, system wouldn't boot. Get the black screen of death after reboot. Will only boot in safe mode. Tried repairing permissions, etc. Still won't boot. I backed everything out. They loaded the software from CD again. Everything fine. I would like to load the latest Radeon software update, but I need advice about how to avoid the screen of death.

GOAT  Against my better judgment I went ahead and installed this on my new 20 G5 Imac, with the 128MB ATI 9600. Installed no problem, no permissions problems either, wow!

I tested it with Airburst Extreme, and Luxor. You create profiles for each application and then go from there.

Noticed no difference in Luxor(I'm thinking it doesn't really use Open GL)

Airburst Extreme, ran well when I set it to Highest Performance in the presets. When I set it for quality, It barely ran at all.

I'm thinking OS X handles everything just fine on its own. If you want to tweak a little this works nicely.

Hint: once you run it through the System Preferences is shows up in the Recent Items menu, its also in your Utilities folder, why did they bother adding it to System Preferences?

JASON  After installation, no longer will allow me to see a PCI 7000 through the ati displays app (crashes). Card functions, albeit very, very slowly. iTunes basic visualizer is lucky to hit 20fps (even at 640x486 res) on a 1.8 G5 with 2.5GB ram, Mac OS X 10.3.6.

I really need this card operational at full capabilities. Any ways to resolve this quickly?

ATI software actually is for ALL ATI Radeon cards... OEM's and retail's...

Some users (including me) just install this software for "extra" features of our graphic cards... and i just tell you what many people have problems with rencently 10.3.6 OSX system. I see what a "combination" for trouble in some machines are "ATI Display update 4.4.1" + OSX 10.3.6!... for some "extrange" reason ATI re-introduce a new version of this software (4.4.2) a few days later from the previous version (4.4.1).

After installing this update I can no longer use System Prefs>Monitors>Color in the 'expert' mode to fine-tune the color and gamma on my 22" Cinema Display running on a Radeon 9800Pro Mac Edition under 10.3.6

The 'expert mode' wizard freezes when you attempt to adjust color or gamma at the first screen. Force quit not possible as it is a hard freeze requiring use of the power button to restart.

ATI's latest (4.4.2) update is the suspected cause as the earlier update allowed fine tuning of the display, even after the 10.3.6 update wass applied.

YES! -- only to discover that the agreement button was the other button; not the default button, as is the norm. Then, after reminding me that I will HAVE to do a restart, and as I was preparing for a restart, and as soon as the installation was completed, they launch a whole bunch of stuff! Like, who's talking about doing a restart? Certainly not us, ATI.

ANONYMOUS  Disregard all comments below about this being for OEM cards only. This is not the case any more.

Version 4.4 is for ALL cards from ATI... whether it came pre-installed with your Mac, soldered to your motherboard, or in a box from ATI. It works with all ATI cards. Of course, some features are only available for retail boxed ATI cards, but the BIG features (OpenGL overrides) are for everyone.

TYCHAY  Re: crashing your system and Apple.

This driver installs things into /System/Library/Extensions, including a kernel extension. If you are patching the kernel, Apple can't really be blamed if your computer crashes, especially when it is so adamant about what should and shouldn't be done to anything in the "/System" so there is a risk involved.

Simply put, Apple doesn't have those resources, Microsoft does, but they also have a much larger mess to deal with.

If you system is always unstable (getting a lot of kernel crash screens) as you imply, then my guess is you have bad RAM. Use memtest to do a full test of all you RAM.

TYCHAY  There seems to be a lot of confusion here re: the Displays Updater. This is pretty much only for the cards listed and only for AFTERMARKET cards. If you have a Radeon card that came bundled with your Macintosh (OEM), this updater is technically not from you but instead you should be using Apple's Software Update.

This is why the features of your card aren't enabled. Does your card have a TV-OUT? Then why should it magically, through software, suddenly get one?

Of course, ATI's site certainly doesn't help the matter.

Not that this is totally useless, Look through MacUpdate for "Radeon Enabler" and you will find a product that uses this ATI Displays Updater and then patches it to work with your OEM card. Then you can activate hidden features like Full Screen Anti-Aliasing!

Apple definately needs to make OS X more safer... It runs very good and then it just crashed for no reason. LOL... ANONYMOUS  Does not fix problem with 10.3.3

Upgraded to 10.3.3. caused conflict between monitors. VGA display (2) is connected to Radeon 7000 PCI card, The cinema display will work properly only if the second display is disconnected from the Radeon 7000 card. If the second monitor is connected to the Radeon 7000 card the cinema Display becomes corrupted in random ways. I have my disk partionned and if restart the computer on 10.3.2 the problem do not exist.

Works well, when auto rez switching begins before starting up Quake3A or RTCW no more harsh transition~smooth.

Performance wise, still hard to judge, time will tell, but seems stable & less jerky than before in frame sync.

One issue, be sure to run a permissions fix after applying, a slew of stuff gets repaired!
