FERVID I'm probably one of the few people that's actually disappointed with this new version. I prefer to have the screensaver on half size (ie in the middle of the screen), but it seems you cannot do this in the new version. Am I missing something completely obvious in the settings? WOODEN BRAIN CONCEPTS Thanks, I just went there myself, and got the update, but it still says it can't be used on this computer. A bit baffled because even older screen savers, including the old version of Electric Sheep, work as-is on my intel laptop also running 10.6.1. But this is not specific to Electric Sheep -- same story also with other supposedly SL compatible screen savers, such as Euphoria 10.2. Since this is OT, if anyone else is having general issues (or better yet, knows the solution), try looking at this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10210603#10210603 (Version 2.7b15a)

SIDDHARTHA Fantastic screensaver-one of the best! Only problem-I wish that it would work on 2 screens-I have 2 screens, and one is simply blank while the screensaver runs. Would be great if it would span the screens, or run separately on both (even mirror would be nice) (Version 2.7b15a)

THUS.SPAKE.Z As far as screensavers/visualisers go, Electric Sheep is, IMO, in the same league as the wonderful G-Force; both render some incredibly beautiful and breathtaking imagery. What E.S. lacks, however, is method to capture screenshots, which G-Force already has. E.S. sorely needs that feature. I think that it would be a very interesting collaboration for the developers of both E.S. and G-Force to work together and combine techniques. Anyway, been using E.S. for some time now and loving it. In light of the apparent glitches with E.S. 2.7b15, I'll stick with version 2.6 for now and wait for the beta to evolve into a stable version. (Version 2.7b15)

PETER DA SILVA IMPORTANT NOTE: From the Electric Sheep website... Before the new hotfix is out. If you have a crash running screensaver just after installation of b15, please try the following: After installation, check if all folders on the path "~/Library/Application Support/ElectricSheep/content" exist. If not, please recreate those missing manually. Or just launch this in Terminal: cd ~;mkdir -p "`pwd`/Library/Application Support/ElectricSheep/content";cd - When all folders are created, the screen saver should not crash anymore. I am working on the patch and b15a should be out soon. If it still crash for you, please let me know.

KKNOPP Best screensaver ever made PERIOD. I have had so many people ask me where to download this it's not even funny. And like the name states, it does help one go to sleep if you stare at it long enough. Very relaxing (Depending on the speed you set it) I've been using this since it came out, and I have always been amazed at the wonderful art it produces. (Version 2.6.9)

SIDETRACKED A clarification to my review below. Although it took 48 hours before I used it, to be clear it was downloading unseen in the background during that time. I was using the computer normally, with no loss of speed. The computer was also going in and out of sleep. Didn't want people to think the computer had to be sitting open on the program that long! SIDETRACKED My Favorite screensaver. Always changing, always evolving. I just sent a donation, since I now use it all the time. It does take forever for the first sheep to download. It took almost 48 hours before I could use it. But, after 2 days I had one working, and in the months since there are always new ones coming and old ones going without my doing anything. Over 5 months it's worked without a hitch. Not sure it's the case for everyone who's had trouble starting it, but maybe it just takes some patience... Really worth trying, very special and very beautiful. Just don't expect it to work in 5 minutes! (Version 2.6.7)

LETTUCE Had to go into Options and then into Download to change the default cache from 100 to 1000 despite the ReadMe suggesting that 1000 is, in fact, the suggested size (might want to make it default) before I could get it to do anything. Outstanding. Love it, and would have rated it higher on but for the ease of use bugaboo. (Version 2.6.7)

JAZZDUCK Well, this is a load of bull. The client never downloads anything from the server. You just get to stare at the "Please wait while downloading the first sheep..." message endlessly. There are plenty of supposed "fixes" on the developer's website's forums, but none of them work. From the comments there, it's clear that this problem is years old, so apparently the developer either doesn't know how to fix the problem, or doesn't realize the problem exists. Curious, I visited the server manually in Safari, and guess what? If you follow the links that are supposed to take you to the actual .mpg's that are the sheep, those .mpg's never load either. So what do we have? A screen saver that just gives you a static "please wait" picture. Huh. No thanks. (Version 2.6.7)

SPOT the problem is just that the servers are overloaded because there are so many users (30000 every day). the solution is to integrate bittorrent into the client. this has already been done for the windows version, and it works great. the mac version hasn't got this far... yet. LETTERPRESS LOUIE I ran into the same situation when I first downloaded this program. But I decided to just let it run, and on the third day (I don't leave my computer on all the time) the images began showing up. BRUCE_Y ditto on 2.6.4 never downloading any images, even though I let it run for hours (and DSL was active, functioning with browser, settings all default). Finally gave up on it ever working. TINKER15 I used electric sheep on my pc and was always impressed with it. I've had the same problems as others on my new iMac but discovered that the default folder for the downloads was not being created (at least on mine). Creating a new folder and choosing it from the Download tab had sheep running in a few seconds on my cable connection (Version 2.6.5)

SPOT there is a P2P network for downloading more sheep faster. This is advertised on the sheep home page (http://electricsheep.org). see http://draves.org/HyperNews/get.cgi/flame/1255.html (Version 2.6.5)
| Jan 16 2006 |
BRUCE_Y I made several setup changes and now it is working. 1) deleted electricsheep v2.6.4 and installed 2.6.5 - which initially still did not work with my setup. 2) I changed the Location of the sheep cache, which I had placed and pointed to on a separate always-mounted volume -- really just a partition of my boot hd. Note: when the cache was pointed to the non-boot volume, it never got any sheep mpg files. When I placed the sheep cache folder onto my boot volume, it is now functioning and begins to received the sheep mpg files. 3) I renamed it to a name without spaces, though this may be totally irelevant. P.S. yes it downloads new sheep, but the download seems rather sporadic. (Version 2.6.5)

ENTITYTHING This has got to be one of the neatest concepts for a screensaver since Seti@home. It's gorgeous, but it isn't just gorgeous; it's participatory dreaming for your computer along with hundreds of others. There seems to be a glitch which causes it to get stuck looping one pattern in Mac OSX, but it doesn't happen all the time and it's only a minor inconvenience. (Version 2.4b4)

It would be really cool if you had the option to download higher quiality fractals though. (Version 2.4b4)
