ISTRA this is a fine application and I find the price also not such a horror! What I find annoying is that when I use e.g. Xslimmer to save some space, WhatSize gives a message that "it has tampered with" and doesn't even start! This for me is self contradicting, both appz serve the purpose of making our machines lighter off excessive weight, but WhatSize claims more rights on my system!? It doesn't allow me to take away of it (in my case) some useless code?! On the other hand it has a nice interface and graphic part, the colour scheme is functional and onobtrussive and works fine. GMANDLER Great product! Love it as I was down to 2G on my Macbook after installing Leopard....in about 10 minutes I found 10G of fat that I no longer needed. I had tried to find these big files in Finder, but WhatSize made it so simple. Love that I can click on a folder and it opens it in Finder for easy delete and trash removal. As for the ratings below I gave the Stability a 4 - but it may well deserve a 5. (Version 4.6)

ISTRA Just used it for some minutes. Looks very neat and works intuitively here. • Though, I'm missing a "back" (& forward) arrow... well, maybe some more Finder integration. • in the PieChart view, rather often, the info-beams just clutter. It would be fine to be able to move them around with the mouse, for improving readability. Also, a context menu would be great. Now it's pure graphical.

APPLEHC Well, funny little story: WhatSize had some issues with the eSellerate engine they were using. I spent quite a lot of time trying to fix this. The developer could not help so he gave me a refund. Nice - I thought.. Well, today he sent me an eMail that I should update immediately - he may have fixed the problems with the eSellerate engine. Guess what: He just blacklisted my old serial. By testing the new version i got a nice little dialog telling me my serial was blacklisted. Thanks for the genereous help! You have to decide if you invest your money into this software. It is the first time after having bought 200 shareware applications that I completely disagree with a developer about how customers should be treated. I would have bought my licence back if the problem would have been solved properly. But finding myself on a "serial number black list", sorry. Not to mention the update politics.. (Version 4.6)

KENEFF I just launched the previous version (4.1) of this utility and I was prompted to update to the newest version, so I did. The previous version was free, and the new update is paid shareware. When I was prompted for the update, the cost change was not mentioned. I think that utilities released for free should remain free with very few exceptions. If a developer wants to add additional functionality to their free utility and charge for that different utility, that would be great. Just have two versions, free and paid more functionality. GARY30 There does not appear to be any substantive change in functionality over the previous free version although the main window is a bit nicer. Moreover, the developer seems to have chosen to handicap himself by grossly limiting the funcitonality of the paid application until registration; is not the constant nagging thought to be enough? Just my 2 cents worth, but if I were trying to sell an app that were only marginally different from a previous free version, I might be a little more generous. (Version 4.2)

TIM27 I don't understand software like this. What is the point of finding and deleting invisible files such as DS Store or preferences or whatever, when the next time you open a Finder window or the app that created them it will create new ones automatically. Then you have to go through and keep deleting them over and over? If you are looking for files over a certain size you can use the Finder or SPotlight to find them. Just seems like pointless software to me. (Version 4.1.1)

BRUCE_Y This software is not designed to search and delete DS_Store files or plist preference files. It is designed to help you find directories, and contents, which are taking up a lot of your hard disk space. Once you find them, you can then evaluate if you want them taking that space on your HD. Spotlight purposefully does not search or display files in many system level directories, and will not show invisible files and directories. That said, you must be careful in using WhatSize to not delete or move off your HD anything you are not certain is truly expendable/archivable. So it does imply a certain level of technical know-how. There are other softwares that do the search and delete of DS_Store files. And I agree with you, that there are, for me, very few situations where I want to delete DS_Store files (especially, as they are tiny and do not really take up much space anyhow). (Version 4.2)

GMAPPER Really nice app, but I'm disappointed that the "automatic update" deletes the free version, then puts up a nag screen to tell you to buy it the first time you run it after updating. I'm always willing to pay for good software, but I don't care for the bait and switch. Please at least warn me before "improving" free software to demo software. I suppose I could just restore the free version from backup, but for now, I think I'll switch back to Disk Inventory X (free), or even pay for OmniDiskSweeper ($14.95) rather than reward this way of doing business. Again, love the software, don't care for the business approach. I don't blame the developer for wanting to make some money, but they should be upfront about what they are doing. (Version 4.1)

MSWWSM It is good software. It is worth US$13. It is however grossly inappropriate to slam an auto-update that changes the licensing arrangement to a paid-license requirement without significant warnings to that effect. You know how Apple tells you if you have QT Pro license and upgrade to the newest full revision of QT, they tell you you'll have to buy a new license for the Pro features. Yeah, that. SCOTTYCUB The color coding is used to identify the range of the file sizes. That is, a different color for 'GB', 'MB' and 'KB' sized items. SJJ_PUBLIC This program appears to be trying to sort the results by size, but it isn't working. I have a listing where there are numerous cases such as an 89 MB folder being listed before a 93 MB folder. Also it doesn't sort anything until after the sizing on the drive is completed entirely. That OmniDiskSweeper does do this, and gives a frequently updating total for folders as it sizes them, makes it easier to see the progress of the scan. I paid for OmniDiskSweeper a while ago, before this existed, so the cost is moot to me. OmniDiskSweeper works better, but this one is free and that's nothing to scoff at. Fix the bugs and improve the feedback and it would be hard to justify purchasing ODS, but ODS isn't expensive and it works great now. Lastly, the claim by another reviewer that WhatSize is faster is questionable - at least in my just done experiment, ODS finished the entire drive scan substantially faster than WhatSize did and, as I noted, ODS gave much better feedback as it progressed. Very annoying when you just want info on a specific folder and the finder won't refresh its info. Can we have a selection dialogue option at start up please! (Version 10.2.6)

ANONYMOUS What size reports that my iTunes music folder is 6.96gb. Where as iTunes reports i've over 20gb of music. One of them has got to be getting it wrong, and considering how many .mp3's and .ACC's ive got in iTunes, my vote is that Whatsize is making a mistake in its mesuring. (Version 10.2.6)

ANONYMOUS "Version 1.2.6: Added French localization courtesy of Thomas Didrel." Okay, but how do I now download a copy of the version in engllish. I can find no way to switch from French to English in the sotfware and the downloads from here and the main website use the French language for the interface. (Version 10.2.6)

ANONYMOUS Well, I don't understand what is going on. I just tried again and all the menus in my version are in French. FYI: the dmg has a 3/1/05 modification date and the application has a 2/8/05 modification date. Below is text from the about window which, as you can see, is in French as is the program that I download (the help/readme file is in english): Design de l'interface utilisateur : Gord Henderson, Klajd(Clyde) M. MU ADMIN Just re-downloaded the app, launched it, all English... all the menus, everything in English. I note the same modification dates for the .dmg and the app as you describe. Perhaps you should delete all files directly related to the app, including the app, and download it again. (Version 10.2.6)

ANONYMOUS I've been looking for a product like this for a long time. Can't beat the price! A few things though, they are minor: The list of drives on the side doesn't line up very well (the text from the drive above a given drive overlaps the drive's name. It would also be very nice if this app included graphical charts. (Version 10.2.4)

OLE WhatSize is an extremely useful application that helps you keep track of big files easily. Of course, you could do it with the Finder or the Terminal, but I never bother - with WhatSize it's very simple and straightforward, so now I can save space. (Version 10.2.3)

BANSURI Shareware, yes. But where is the price? Not on the site or I must use spectables. And shareware perhaps, but AppleScript may help.
