JAZZYGUY  On only one of my drives the 5.0 version works. On the other 2 of my G5 (PPC)on 10.5.8 the Leopard version quits. I trashed my preferences and could find no Folder in ~/library/appsupport. I had to go back to the prevous version on those 2 drives.Repairing permissions did not help at all. Don't know why Macupdate coupled this thread with my other ones!

AETNARIA  Which version did you download? There are separate links depending on your OS - the primary one is for 10.6 only.

BOOOMWHADIS  I'm very often checking individual images. And for that purpose ToyViewer is a much better choice than Preview.

By default it shows images in their original resolution. That's how i want it. You can however, if you prefer, make ToyViewer adjust larger images to your display size (a bit hidden in the preferences - note to the developer: i think that option should be moved to the main menu).

Clicking *Alt + CMD + Z* gives you a borderless "foreground" mode: you can scroll through larger images or move through them with a hand tool. Nice! At the bottom of the image viewer is a black button to view your image in full screen/ match screen mode. There is a rectangle selection feature - hitting that black button will change your selection to borderless full screen. Very nice!

As well there is a scaling option at the bottom of the image viewer.

My only suggestions for improvements:

A short key for that *match screen* button because i'm using a multi-button mouse and assigning such a short key to one of the buttons would speed up my work flow. ToyViewer's short key for toggling windows is *CMD + 0* while most other apps are using *CMD + for that.

Despite these minor issues a 5 stars program. It has as well a host of exporting and editing options but when i'm honest, i hardly used those and would start Photoshop instead.

AKROBAT  Very good application indeed. Perfect for checking images and image editing without the need to open PhotoShop.

I'm experimenting with using this as a defualt image browser instead of Preview.

Thanks for making it free.

DOM21  I want to make changes in the Default Viewer's checkboxes but every one is checked and grayed out so that you can't uncheck any.

Solution anyone?

PETER DA SILVA  What's with the complex install instructions?

I just drag the file from the .dmg on top of the old version, and it just works.

Also, I'm not sure I get the point of the "scan folder" tool, it doesn't seem very Mac-ish...

APPLEDOGX  Surprisingly great little gem. I wish it had an undo function so you could try things out and play around with the image.

MACUPDATE ADMIN  You could create a copy of any given image, use that with ToyViewer, and then would not be messing with the sole original.

THEVALRUS  Not necessary. When you make a change, ToyViewer opens a new window with the changed image in it; the original image is still around and in order to "undo" your change, all you have to do is close the window with the modified image.

ICELAND_GYRFALCON  Really Nice

This is simple, but with all the basic features you would need.

I use it to quickly convert comics to grayscale jpegs.

TOMIS  It's some excellent effects that process fast. And alot of good feature ideas.

But it desperately needs live previewing.

And the interface needs to be overhauled to be more MacOS X friendly.

3 stars, good app, needs to be brought up to macosx quality

-M-  ToyViewer has been a "must have" for a long time. It offers a great range of features and ease of use for image manipulation and transformation - and somehow is still free!

I recently upgraded from Jaguar to Tiger and there are some nice new features here which I never had before. And since MU does not have the update info. I will tell you - v4.76 fixes the previos bug where images did not save using ToyViewer under Tiger, so all Tiger users should be sure to get this latest version.

Big kudos to the developer! Thanks!

ANONYMOUS  This is a great app; light and fast. I think it's terrific the developer distributes it for free AND continues to support 10.2.8. Much appreciated.

Thanks!

ANONYMOUS  Does anyone know what the installation instructions on the linked page (remove the original before installing the new one, log out and login ...) are all about? I've never done that for a ToyViewer upgrade and I've never had a problem.

SKYHORSE  I've been using ToyViewer for about a year now, and find it to be everything I need for most image manipulation. It's fast, easy, and does a terrific job. I only wish that you could display multiple effects menus simultaneously, with all selected applying to the image, as many I deal with need modification with the same settings for a group at a time.

A MARTIN  When opening an image in the app. the window comes up under the Dock. Not very nice. Also it can be a bit confusing for some people that nothing comes up (except the change of the menu bar) when double clicking the app.

Also I think that the "esc" key also should exit the full screen mode.

ANONYMOUS  Excellent and speedy to get pictures into shape for web use. What about a watermarking facility? A proper application with no fancy overkill on functionality - perfect for the simple things when bloated image programs just cost you $$$ for the priviledge of menus you never use. Not for the design obsessed but for everyone else very handy.

CHARLIE S MOTE JR  At 1M handles the major functionality of programs 10-100 times larger (and infinitely more expensive!)

Essentially the return of "paint" - the program which essentially brought us the GUI.

Must have for anyone who doesn't need Illu$trator.

BIMMER  This is a very nice app and the best thing it's free. The only thing I would like to see changed is the color of the (black) crop rectangle; it's hard to see when the picture contains dark colors. Other than that I fine app!

ANONYMOUS  Sure can't beat the price!! It will NOT open Canon raw formats (.crw files). Seems to be a basic version of Graphic Converter with a much better price yet slower at displaying the pictures. I couldn't get the scan folder operation to work, but maybe I was just too impatient to wait more than 15 seconds for a picture to be displayed. All in all, it is a decent program!!
