CHIZZLEPAIN In the beginning, when Americas Army was first on the drawing board, the army likely wanted to use AA for propaganda and as a recruiting tool. They also wanted to train soldiers with it because of its realistic environment and weapons etc... However, I think it ended up differently then what they originally wanted it too be. Instead it became a fun, realistic first-person shooter, JUST LIKE ANY OTHER GAME!! But, in the end, how people view the game, either as a recruiting tool or just a game, is up too the perspective of the person writing about it. I personally like this game and I see where the propaganda supporters are coming from. (Having a few in my family.) However, I dont support their views. I think it is just a FUN GAME! and we should LEAVE it as a fun game. (Version 2.5a)

But only if you forget to wear your aluminium foil helmet whilst playing. It's a game guys, and free at that! Dont get this game if u dont have a dual processor mechine. U will not be able to play due to low fps (like waiting for each frame to load while you play). I just recently got a radeon 9800 pro with 128mb ddr and now on those maps that i had 10 fps, i now get 50-60 and the maps with 20-40, now i get 100+. DESERT FOX You need in this order: Processor>RAM>Graphic card If you have a good processor and a good bit of RAM, like 512MB, the game should run well even with a Radeon 9200SE or GeForce4 MX440, just lower the graphic settings. Processor processes the frames and details them -> Frames sent to graphic cards to be coloured and shaded etc. -> The frames are stored in the RAM for quick access ingame -> Frames are displayed on screen(gameplay). TERRY CHAY There is a new version of America's Army called America's Army: Special Forces which is, a superset of America's Army: Operations. (I think.) On the political front: the game is clearly a recruiting tool and the Army has made not tried to hide this agenda since it was announced. Personally, I fail to see how my politics have to deal with the game since both administrations support a strong defense and have funded this game. I also fail to see how a game in which the terrorists are as well-equipped and as organized as the Army, playing the game requires going through a boring set of tutorials, and a "one-life" ruleset would get people thinking they're going to have a free-for-all on "towel heads." Soldier of Fortune II is a far better propaganda tool than this. It's also the nature of "PunkBuster" to scan your hard drive for known hacks, mods, etc. to prevent cheating. This is an outgrowth of the popularity of cheats in the PC world and the fact that all first person shooters are based only a handful of engines--in the case of America's Army, it is the Unreal engine. I do think it is a little on the costly side for my taxpayer dollars, but considering how expensive things like cruise missiles are which we send to blow up a hut somewhere in the dessert, it's probably a bargain to the Army. (I haven't played the game except in passing so I withhold ratings on it. Besides, I'm not a big fan of FPS.) (Version 2.1)

JOHN MAYES Sitting at home on a friday night? Just getting home from a stressful day at work? Maybe you just love games. This is one game you do not want to pass up. Not often does a game come along where you can get drawn into it and blow off some steam, satisfy those primal urges, or just have a rockin good time! Developed and distributed by the US army, and brought to you by the good folks here at MacUpdate.com this game not only hits a home run, but does it in the bottom of the ninth, bases loaded, and a full count! The graphics are stunning. From the bark on trees, to the movements of the players this game is true to life. The audio is top notch. You can hear footsteps approching, and call tell from what side and even what surface they are walking on. The gunfire is so intense it is startling. You ahve to make your way through basic training, and you ahve the options of completing airborne, medic, sniper, and special forces traning as well. Don't expect to just breeze through it beacause you have to listen to lectures, and videos and then take written and visual tests in order to pass! Once you pass your traning your sent out the field to battle it out against thousands of other online gamers throughout the world. Play on a team and work together to acheive objectives as well as just flat out sock it to the opposing forces. Choose from over a dozen different weapons. You can modify your guns with different scoops, grenade launchers, bipods, heatsheilds, flare guns, and more. Play many different maps and situations ranging from desert recon missions, to jungle headquarter raids. Use your night vision goggles to navigate in the dark, but watch out for the enemys as they are on the hunt for you! All in all this game leaves little to be wanted. Maybe a few more RPG aspects would be nice to some gamers, but most all of you will throughly enjoy this one. Not only is this a great game but the price is right as well. That's right it is FREE! Where else can you find a deal like that expect for right here at MacUpdate.com . (Version 2.0.0a)

ANTI-RETARD People are too paranoid. Really. All of you calling this propaganda, politics, and Bush-hating are very all paranoid and live life pessimistically. Heck, I hate Bush, too, but this is a game, not a propaganda machine. People that think this is for propaganda are just retarded. Simply put. The only thing the Army wants people to learn from this is teamwork and leadership, not go blasting people in the head with shotguns. It's a bonus to them if you server the country, but that is not the goal at the end of the day. If you want to talk about propaganda, then take it else where. This is a software site, not some propaganda judgment crap. Now, since this is a software review, I'm going to judge it as a game. It has the best physics in a shooter I have ever played. If you're computer can handle it, make sure to take advantage of the graphics. People playing Quake and other shooters shouldn't be complaining about this game. It's thanks to the Army's knowledge it has actually realism in weapons and their physics. Excellent free full version game! (Version 1.9)

ANONYMOUS To whoever wrote that comment starting "I love all the propoganda coments..." What are you trying to prove? That you can say someone else's opinion about propoganda is wrong? So you can be a rebel without a cause, saying you and your buddies are gonna keep blowing people's heads off? Well, guess what, jackass: anyone with two braincells to rub together can do that! Some people actually have valid opinions, but some don't. The latter should refrain from speaking them. (Version 1.9)

I say we blow the Middleeast right off the globe! F*ck em' all! Why, I think I'll go out to those godforsaken deserts write now... Well, golly-gee, why don't i join the Army!" God, atleast make the propoganda subliminal. (Version 1.9)

SPAWNOFBILL Stick, this game is free in the first place, you don't have to pay for it unless you order it online... And the $6 is only for the price of shipping and manufacturing of the CD! (Version 1.9)

ANONYMOUS I was under the impression that this game was for the purpose of giving military personnel something to do during their downtime. The game itself is quite impressive. It loads faster than most games of the same genre (Soldier of Fortune, Medal of Honor), and is definately a lot more realistic than any game I've played. The only beef I have with this game is the lack of online servers. If there is a public server with more than 5 people on it (which is rare), the server ping is usually horrible. I can't even complete half of the online training missions because there are no servers for them. Anyway I think this game is absolutely great. (Version 1.9)

STICK TO FACTS FOO Get a life, half of you who are complaining about this game don't pay for software anyway. You just steal it from Limewire or some other server. So when something free comes along (That's Legal!) you should enjoy it for what it is. Oh, and about the not trusting Bush, thing your a paranoid jerk, who was put in day care instead of a family enviornment. He sure has so far. (Version 1.9)

ANONYMOUS Oh and BTW, the army isn't going to give a flying F*ck who you are and whether you support their game or not. They have other issues to tackle, like hmm, making sure some physco religous fanatic doesn't bomb the hell out of where you live. (i'm assuming that you live in the US) Just remember, the more people we have to defend our country, the less the citizens have to worry about defending their house with a shotgun against an invadeing force. SPAWNOFBILL christ people it's a game, you don't have to download it, you don't have to buy it. The Army has every right to use every tool in it's desposal to try and recruit people. This is not the type of 'propoganda' that you think it is. This game is made for people as a recruiting tool. So you think public funds shouldn't be used to make commericals to recruit people? If the Army doesn't have anyone in it, how is it suppose to defend our nation? The game is free, so don't gripe. You don't have to play the game if you don't want to. So don't preach to other people not to play the game. Everyone has a freakin choice man, you took your path, so respect others choices. (Version 1.9)

ANONYMOUS Do not download, play, or otherwise support this product! The US Army should not be using public funds to produce propaganda such as this. Public funds are made available to the US Army to defend the nation, not provide us with propaganda presented as free entertainment! This is a very sad turn of events. Additionally (although arguably not as serious as the above implications), the US Army doesn't need to make any money from this because they have a virtually unlimited budget available and this project is intended to alter perceptions. The problem with that is that by supporting this, you are NOT supporting some company that is making similar combat games that needs to make a profit. And that means you are taking money out of the economy and out of the pockets of working Americans... not very patriotic at all. ;-( (Version 1.9)

MADRA according to the BBC, tony blair is very interested in the concept of government sponsored software and, at the ministry of defence in london, programmers are hard at work on a UK version. in "britain's army" you steer a virtual poodle around the globe in the wake of its bungling american master, trying to avoid being killed by falling tins of "friendly dogfood" (Version 1.9)

ANONYMOUS "To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." GUARDIAN ARCHON Let's not forget that this game was out for the PC for over a year before its release on Mac. It is not about propaganda. It's actually closer to a recruiting tool, since all recruiters have copies of it to give out. Playing this game actually is more supportive of the troops than the government since it shows you fairly realistically the type of environment they train in and some possible scenarios they may be forced to fight in. FRIDAY Chris, I'm sorry, but your argument doesn't hold water. The idea for this software was likely hatched during a previous administration. Please, think more about what you have said. This software was developed in response to marketing research. Potential recruits have grown up in a culture of computer games, and respond visually. It is purely a marketing scheme and not a subversive attempt to brainwash the masses. (Version 1.7)

CHRIS J. I beg of you; don't buy into this attempt to mute the horrors of war and the suffering we inflict upon others. This is not a game, but rather a propaganda device to "patriotize" the invasion of sovereign nations for our benefit. As our "President" stumbles on his words and the depth of the deception we face in the information coming to light regarding the motives of his administration we're presented with this subversion in the name of National Pride. True patriotism is standing for the ideals of your country and for the principals for which it was founded; fascism is the misdirection of patriotism for the benefit of the ruling class. Reject Bush & Sons, Inc. Show your support for our troops but not for the war and refuse this propaganda; it's a disservice to the men an women being killed every day in the name of BUSH.
