SNOWWHITESICKETTE I am very happy with iUSBCam. It works as advertised, with a Hue Clique USB webcam and 10.4.11. The developer is helpful and prompt responding to questions. I had asked about the licensing, and the developer informed me that my license is good for all of my personal Macs, which makes the low price even better. The trial period is one week, which is plenty of time to determine if it will work. A driver must also be installed for the USB camera to work. I got mine from the webcam manufacturer's website- the most recent driver instead of the outdated one that came with the CD. If your camera manufacturer doesn't have a Mac OS X driver, check out Macam, a free USB webcam driver that is available here at MacUpdate. For some reason, the feature that IMO makes iUSBCam a necessity, is not even mentioned in the description above. It enables older Macs that don't meet the requirements set by Apple to broadcast video in iChat and other IM programs. I installed it on a 400MHz G3 iMac and a 466MHz iBook SE, and it works perfectly. Also enables an external iSight to work on older Macs that fall under the requirements. Prior to iUSBCam, the iSight would power itself off after showing a few seconds of video- enough to know that the computer was not the problem. Because of iUSBCam, I can use my USB webcam in iChat, or my FireWire iSight on all of my Macs. Fantastic! (Version 2.2.5)

OHGOOD iUSBCam 2.2.4 seems to work with Leopard 10.5.2 and iChat (current) but usability is very poor. THere are problems with the application apparently, as this is being written to syslog 10-20 times a second: 3/19/08 8:20:43 AM iChat[803] *** Break on _NSLockError() to debug. Which means the ahrddrive and cpu are going like mad. Working and usable are two different things. :) (Version 2.2.4)

BEARTECH I am also having problems with this product. The image looks as if the horizontal is all the way to the side. The camera image is active because even with the distortion, you can see changes due to motion. I uninstalled and re-installed pretty much everything that could be involved. If I boot back into Tiger, it work great. Completely worthless in Leopard. (Version 2.2.4)

CLOUDNINER This program is a ten! I have a 24 inch iMac with the built in camera. I really like the ability to use a USB web cam as it gives me the ability to sit and relax instead of sitting fixed in front of the iMac. Gladly bought the program minutes after using it. (Version 2.1)

FLUENTNUDGE You're going to need to install a driver for the Eyetoy. The driver macam will probably be your solution... It says eyetoy is in the works or if you can find a driver for ov51x (it's a ov519) chipset driver use that. http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/ (Version 2.1)

OZ Great piece of software. Does the job, opened up the world of video conferencing for USB webcam owners. There are few cheap alternatives to the Apple iSight which are really worth paying for. Get yourself a USB cam and away you go. i recommend the Logitech QuickCam 4000. Worked a breeze. Picked one up brand new on eBay for £21!! There are a few flaws with this software. It is quite processor intensive when running iChat. I am not sure that this is down to iChatUSBCam but I have my suspicions. Also, if you have your energy saver setting not set to 'Highest' you get an annoying message whenever you start iChat which you cannot choose to 'stop showing in future'. Overall its best to get this software and a USB webcam than fork out £120 for an iSight! (Version 2.0)

CHRISR Just tried this for the first time with a Toucam Pro and IOXperts drivers on my Dad's Dual 533 G4. Tried two video chats and both worked perfectly. The Toucam Pro was always a great cam, if ugly, so I'm chuffed my Pa can put it to use now. It does eat alot of CPU cycles but then it is having to convert the USB video feed to a DV feed on the fly isn't it? (Version 2.0)

PETRIELM I was so exited to see that some people out there finally gave the opporutnity to people who owned a USB web-cam to use iChat AV. Thank you! However, I have to say that even if I downloaded the iChatUSBCam 1.1.2 version more than four (4) times, it never worked! It also seems like it actually messed up my Fire Wire connection, for I cannot use my Digital Camcorder anymore with my iBook. So, sorry mates, it was a good idea, but it did not really work! I do not advice anyone to install iChatUSBCam 1.2.1 at all. (Version 1.1.2)

GM I went to the website you stated. Macam works just fine. iChat sort of works now (don't know why), but now there is a green vertical bar on the left side, the image is mirrored, and whenever I click on iChat's "Preferences" the program suddenly quits. No problems with Preferences if the cam is not connected. I am glad that others have success, but I am not so lucky. I spent over 4 frustrating hours trying to make it work, and I am done trying. Even if it worked, I would not pay the $9.95 for a mirrored image with a fat green bar. This ap barely meets PC standards and is a poor example of what I'd expect from a mac. Going back to the idea of buying an iSight. The $9.95 that I saved here will pay for the taxes. Thanks for the attempt. (Version 1.1.1)

GM I have a 15"FR iMac w/ all of the very latest upgrades. I have a QuickCam (USB). This ap freezes my iChatAV upon loading. I must either force quit it or unplug the webcam which then causes iChat to "unexpectantly quit". If I plug in the webcam after iChat has loaded, iChat doesn't recognize any cam connected. In short: Useless!! Even worse than useless after all of the hoops you must jump through after downloading and installing other software just to make this one work. Thank goodness they both come with un-installers!! I think I'll scrape up a few $$ and buy myself an iSight for Christmas and maintain the high quality of products on and in my Mac, rather than taking a PC-user-like route and duct taping cheap aps all over it, risking having a similar future of problems and troubleshooting a hard drive full of crapware, making $150 seem like a cheap investment. ANONYMOUS The reason I as an iSight user would use this app is to do some color correction, focus control, and white point balancing. Unfortunately the demo doesn't allow you to access this part of the app. So what am I supposed to do? Pay before I try? I dont think so. (Version 1.1.1)

M2 Well, every since Panther came out, I have been waiting for this. However, after installing it, I'm not as happy as the performance with 10.2.x. Needless to say, it has performed fairly well, but the new release has an odd, what I could call a bug in it. Granted, I don't have a plethora of web cams to test it with, but my USB cam is fairly new (2003 model), and I have a about a 80-100 pixel green bar to the left in the preview window. All used to work beautifully...but I think it was after an Apple Upate...possibly when I went to 10.2.8 that this software began to NOT work! I have reinstalled everything, but I am thinking that this is something that may have been caused by APPLE somehow during a software update.

JAN DALSGAARD I have jus installed The Panther 10.3 and Application Enhancer (Updated for Panther ver. 1.4.1) and Your iChatUSBCam ver. 1.0 2 - I am using iChat 2.0 (ver 145). My camera is a Logitech QuickCam Zoom, and it works with WideoPlayer, so the Camera is compatible with Panther. BUT NEVER THE LESS, THE CAMERA DOES NOT WORK WITH ICHAT, WHAT CAN I DO. Jan Dalsgaard - Aktiv Data, Denmark PS It is a problem, as I have written about Your program (3 pages) in my book about Panther, and now I have hundreds of customers ringing me asking for an explanation.
