DR. GIRLFRIEND  I used to recommend this app as an alternative to iPhoto and some of the other image viewing programs, but, unfortunately, I can no longer do so. It took the developer over one year to post an update to this current version and were it not for Snow Leopard's release, I seriously doubt he would have done anything at all.

In addition, I've sent multiple emails to the developer regarding the fact that my paid for license for version 3 will not work on this version; he hasn't answered a single one. Misha from MacUpdate was even kind enough to contact him on my behalf (since I bought the app through this site) and still nothing. Stony silence from FR-Soft.

Undaunted, I installed the current version as a trial on Snow Leopard to put it through its paces and was disappointed to see the same ugly, non-standard and clunky interface that has plagued this app from Day 1. It looks even sadder now in 2009, than it did when I bought it nearly two years ago. Apparently I'm not missing much.

Save your money folks. Judging by the lackadaisical development pace and the complacent attitude of the developer, this app is dead.

DR. GIRLFRIEND  This app hasn't been updated since September of 2008! Such a pity too because the unconventional UI hampers an otherwise decent program. It could really use a refresh. Despite its visual shortcomings, FR-Photo Studio is still one of the better image browsers available for Mac, and since it's priced at just $15.00, it's hard to complain.

TOMIS  Needs to be updated to MacOS X interface standards. It's clearly a hold-over from MacOS 9 and the interface reflects this.

That being said, the Finder and Preview do most of what this does, the few extra features it does have over what the OS already comes with, are not worth putting up with the bad interface.

ANONYMOUS  Worth a try but the ability to rotate in thumbnail view is like having a 'steer' feature in a car - its essential. Put that in and you'd have an ACDSee competitor. And more buyers.

ANDY  Pretty good slide show transitions for an app that does not require Quartz Extreme, a boon to users of older Macs with less than 16 MB VRAM. Can scale smaller than Preview too.

MARK  Exactly what I was looking for. I loved the old ACDSee software on Windows, when it was lightening fast before they filled the program with bloat so it became slow as an old dog.

Looking for that old fast image viewer on Mac I finally came across this, after trying (among others) ACDSee for Mac, iView, GC et al, and none had the super-fast image viewing capability (switching images with keystrokes) that I found again in this.

Awesome, $15 well spent (yes, GC is only $15 more, but I don't need all those features, just a fast image viewer that doesn't take time to load thumbnails and switch images).

QUANTUMPANDA  This is a decent first effort, but it's a complete waste of money for shareware. The first big downside is the total lack of GIF and TIFF support. But more significantly, Graphic Converter does everything this does and ten times more, at only $30 compared to this app's $15.

I will grant that this app does everything it claims, and it is fast and stable. There's little wrong with it as far as what it claims. But not supporting two of the most common image formats is a big minus. Without that support, it's simply not worth $15 as shareware. Even with it, $15 is high compared to what else is available.
