MUSI I've been using this app for a long time, and since I bought EasyCrop (another fantastic, and IMO, the best and easiest cropping tool), it qualified me to upgrade to SnapNDrag Pro. SnapNDrag is as easy and as good as it gets. Anytime I take a screen shot using any other method, I always end up coming back to this app because it is just so convenient. You have many options, can choose your output file format (tiff, png, jpeg), can make a timed screenshot, do a selection or the whole window. Then just drag the item wherever you want it to go. The fact that this is also a free app makes it that much more justifiable to use, since Apple gives you the key commands to take screenshots and also the Grab interface for free as well. However, SnapNDrag is still so much nicer to use. Intuitive, easy, quick, and stable, with a clean and uncluttered interface. Never in all the time that I've used it has it ever crashed or corrupted / interrupted my system. It is how an app should be done. I highly recommend it. (Version 2.4.6)

CEILING CAT "But if you find it annoying that Shift-CMD-4 can only produce PDF files..." Untrue for Leopard; the default screenshot format is now PNG, and by using the right terminal command or any number of free "hidden option" changers, users can pick from 10 different formats. In fact, I think this is even untrue for earlier versions of OS X; I'm sure my old Panther and Tiger installs used .TIFF, not .PDF? (Version 2.4.4)

MARTHI The developer had better fix bugs than introduce new features. I have been writing to the developer since version 2.2 in April 2007 to notify him of the following bug, without him fixing the bug. Under Panther 10.3.9 the menubar icon is irresponsive when the app is automatically launched at login, with the option set to run without dock icon. I recently also noted that under Tiger 10.3.9, checking the box to automatically launch the app at login, is unsuccessful at the first attempt. Similarly with unchecking this box. (Version 2.4.3)

FOULGER Watch out Snapz pro! Ambrosias policy of concentrating on games rather than create a UB version of their excellent programme is only leaving the door open for other developers to produce an alternative. PHALERON I have had a problem with DragNDrop for several versions, in that it would get confused and send my target window backwards (when multiple windows overlapped), making screenshots of intended windows impossible. This version seems to have fixed this problem. Thank you. A second issue I have is that DragNDrop cannot take snapshots of dialogue windows. A dialogue window dims when out of focus. When I click the "selection" or "window" button on SnapNDrag the dialogue box dims and the snapshot captures a dimmed window. In contrast, Command-Shift-4 permits screen capture with windows in focus. Aside the above issues, I like DragNDrop a lot. (Version 2.1)

PORTHOS First impression of this little piece of kit is "Cool" and "Simple". Indeed it does exactly what it says in the title.......SnapNDrag...except for the first 5 minutes I could not work out how to save the screen I just took....you have to drag it from the box to where you like....there was me looking for a save button. DOH! I mostly use Snapz Pro X which is bundled with OS X 10.2 onwards and find this to have more features....also you can bring the program up with a hotkey so you dont have to treck all the way to your applications folder. Still, top marks, looks good, performs well, including taking screenshots off of .mpeg clips while playing. Not very original though and lacks alot of what Snapz Pro X offers. (Version 1.3.5)

ROLLINGFLO a) This refers only to some models. I think the Power-Line which has a bundle of Shareware instead of games and Appleworks like the eMac, iMac, iBook. b) You need to start Software-Restore (in the Utilities folder) and have the CDs that came with your Mac (with the symbols on them, but maybe it is a DVD nowadays). Start the Restore App and click the appropriate option to get (back) all the stuff you might have lost. (Version 1.3.7)

YOYO This program is very nice, it offers the ability to save directly to jpg, png, or tiff, and also removes the application window when it takes the screenshot. The functionality is great, and this would have been a very nice application except that it is crippleware. (It seems only scaling functions are disabled unless you have watermarks on your images, if you do not register.) Everyone deserves the right to make money off software, but before anyone spends the time downloading and installing software thinking it is completely free, should be told that it is not. The other quirk I have is that on first run, this program tries to send information out through the internet (66.152.98.16 port 80). It only happens once when you first run the program. I thought maybe this was to check to see if there were any program updates, but I noticed there was no option in the preferences to turn "update checks" on or off, and nothing explained why it would try to connect out in either the readme, preferences, help, or about box. JAY TEO Thanks for the comment. You may disagree but we don't consider SnapNDrag crippleware because: 1. All the essential features are available free. 2. All the features that have been available free will always remain that way. That is a promise. 3. And perhaps most importantly, the license to use SnapNDrag is free of charge. As for your concern that it is "sending information" out. It is NOT sending information. It is merely requesting for the latest version number from our website. (Version 1.3.4)

FRONTPAGE I've tried other screen capture tools in attempts to make frame grabs of DVD movies, and SND has become my app of choice. Other capture tools may recognize the window but after you capture the frame, the resulting image is black... like censorship. SND does a successful capture, however. But if I remember (too lazy at 4AM to check), one must use VLC instead of Apple DVD Player. An added plus is the option for the user to choose the output file's type, between JPEG, PNG and TIFF file. Jpeg offers better compression but the quality generally is inferior to a TIFF file. PNG may sit in the middle quality- wise. And SND also shows a preview of the image along with the file size. Once you get the hang of capturing with SND, it becomes second nature. So since this has become my app of choice for capture, I give it 5 stars. It is also very stable, with no apparent software conflicts with DVD Player and VLC Media Player. 10.2.6 OS (Version 1.2.5)
