QUANDREI  I've been using CSSEdit on a trial basis and agree this is really good piece of software. However, there are a few issues that need to be addressed:

1 - The current sticker price has not changed (29.95 Euros), despite the fact the software is no longer being maintained (according to their website blog) and the last update was done nearly 2 years ago. I think it unreasonable to be asked to pay full price for an outdated, unmaintained software no matter how wonderful it is.

2 - I currently own a license for Espresso. I am not completely blown away by its feature set but it is a decent peice of software. For the sticker price, in my opinion, it is not worth it. It was my hope that, since CSSEdit was being discontinued, and their new product was their main focus, some of the great features in CSSEdit would be incorporated into Espresso. This does not seem to be the case, nor does it look promising for the future.

3 - Finally, their support/customer service is completely lacking. I had sent an email 14 days ago regarding some of these issues (and other more specific questions not mentioned here) and have yet to receive a response.

All in all, despite the great feature set of CSSEdit, I don't think I would buy it just because of the lack of maintenance & support from MacRabbit.

MARKTECH  This is a great bit of software. Once I'd figured out the x-ray and inspector functionality it all snapped into place. As a relative newbie to CSS I'd been struggling with templates and trying to adapt them to my own use. This software made it really obvious what tags applied to what content and made it easy to edit. You can instantly see the results of any changes you make and this helps you understand the CSS itself. Would be great for CSS from scratch as well.

There's not a huge amount of functionality in the software, but what there is works great after a short learning curve.

JOEYA  Easily the best CSS editor on the market. CSSEdit integrates very well with multiple styles of workflow all in one streamlined UI. Hand coders, visual editors and those toggling between both will have an easy time styling sites with real time previews. Simply brilliant software.

The only reason I didn't give this app 5 stars is because support is non existent and the app rarely receives updates. Moreover since MacRabbit is now focused on Espresso, I think CSSEdit is poised to become the ugly stepchild of the MacRabbit family.

KLAGRECA  I have that same fear too, which is a shame because I prefer to use my separate editors for their respective tasks. No one single app does what the separate apps do individually well.

Any word from the MacRabbit people on their outlook for this app?

GNDZAPP  Solid app with a sweet interface. My only reason for rating this less than 5 is I don't understand why anyone would pay $30 or more for a CSS-only editor when all-in-one apps like Coda are out there which provide a built in editor for every language (HTML, PHP, JavaScript), and an equally slick interface for CSS. Plus Coda has built FTP transfer, reference books, a built in terminal, etc. Maybe it doesn't have an "X-Ray view" but Coda seems to me by far a better choice for web dev. (Personal opinion)

SEMIOTICMONKEY  nothing beats this at css editing (TopStyle, i look at you).

all the features you need to get the work done in a small, well tought package.

the x-ray window is the right tool for the dynamic pages work. i'm using right now on a velocity-tomcat project and it is a god send. no more firebug and refresh to see the tweaks in real time.

the autocomplete is good and the style preview 'drawer' is a welcome and useful bonus. you can drag and drop styles to arrange them in a organized way (layout, tipography, forms and so on). in this it beats the poor coda's csseditor.

but i have a little remark. i would prefer the option to hide the styles preview drawer.

i bought it before the trial period was over.

HYPERCOG  I've been working with GoLive and Dreamweaver for many years. As DW only recently added any semblance of WYSIWYG CSS editing, I used to think that GoLive's CSS development environment was tops.

Now, after using CSSEdit for about a year, I just wish that Adobe would acquire CSSEdit and incorporate it into their next version of GoWeaver or DreamLiver, or whatever they're going to call the fusion of two.

In other words...

CSSEdit is TOPS!

NCIANCA  Tabs, the selector "thingamabob" (right click a selector) and a few other improvements make CSSEdit 2.5 the best version yet.

Throw in Milestones, Validation, Live Previews/Real Time Editiing, Groups and a great interface with intuitive editors and auto-completion and it's clear why CSSEdit the tool of choice for anyone who has to work with CSS.

SOKO  v1.x has been the best css editor for mac. It had its tiny little quirks though, but nevertheless: very good.

Now there is 2.0 - and it's just a beautiful piece of mac software, one of the best software I have on my computer (and I have much!). It's not just pretty, it's actually damned useful and usable (in terms of usability).

Absolutely recommanded for everyone making anything with CSS - i love it! (and I'll forgive the developer for having let me waited so long ;-))

T7  CSSEdit 2 is an impressive update. Its new features go far beyond basic visual CSS stylesheet editing. Live previews, an X-ray debug mode that outlines the CSS elements, a powerful Override feature to do direct (WYSIWYG) online CSS editing without the need to upload, CSS validation and a Milestone manager to quick revert to earlier versions are the most obvious. But it's the small touches and the beautiful, well implemented interface that makes CSSEdit 2 a joy to work with.

BEBDABHRHBRWEFG 3R§5Y5H4WTEDSFB  this app is a bit like the "little girl who had a little curl" in the poem;

when it's good, it's very very good...

but when it's bad it's horrid!

CSSedit is a joy to work with when things are going smoothly, but regularly switching between 'source editing' and 'visual editing' [as i tend to do while while i work], really seems to tie it in knots, and i find that every ten minutes or so, i'm forced to close and reopen the document as CSSedit stops taking any notice of the changes i'm making.

such a sham

OLIPOWER  Stability has ceased somehow. If it is due to a Mac OS X update, or the latest version of CSSedit I'm can't know, but what I do know is that it has crashed 5 times today. have mailed the developer some days ago, yet not received a response as of writing, even though I'm a registered user.

And features:

It needs some obvious features like support for live url's for the preview. As is now, I have to save an html version of my php-based sites, in order to be able to use the preview feature. Would be much easier to just type in the url.

StyleMaster supports this feature.

It also lack the ability to see the xhtml elements outlined in the preview, for easier identification of which tags and dividers belong to what.

StyleMaster supports this feature.

CSSedit seems to have frozen its feature set for more than a year now...

SALVADOR  This has to be the best CSS editor on ANY platform, it's intuitive, powerful and easy for both beginners and experimented users, I really can't see myself authoring CSS in any other way and this last update made my mind to write this, because this piece of SW is clearly from a developer who is interested on further improving its products. The new preview and URL grabbing features is amazing. The only thing which I think could be added is support for some non-standard CSS styles like type shadows and transparency.

LUXURYLUKE  This is a beautiful App!

Quick, download and pay for this app before the price goes up ( theoretically it will, i mean). You can see by viewing other site's css that this program is widely used when the groups show up in your downloaded URL CSS.

It would be cool if the developer had a meter on his site to show how many domains use css files developed by this program, because it rocketh. and works perfect in conjunction with Dreamweaver MX04 (which still doesn't display CSS correctly), as well as Contribute 3(.1), Taco HTML, PageSpinner, HyperEdit, skEdit, NVU, and MORE!

In an ideal world, MacRabbit would hookup with another company and complete the (in my opinion) hole that exists for a complete XHTML/CSS Editor!

ANONYMOUS  This is a great little app, not only for developing sites but also for learning the ins and outs of CSS. I run mine alongside my favorite editor because I find that CSSEdit makes it much easier to tweak and experiment with things. One of the app's neatest features (crucial while learning CSS) is its ability to download and show you the CSS from the sites that you admire...it helps you move up the learning curve in a hurry. There are still a few stability issues that need to be addressed (mine crashes once in a while), but I was pleased enough to pay for a license.

ANONYMOUS  CSSEdit is an excellent program, well worth paying for. BUT, it almost looks the same as the Adobe GoLive built-in CSS editor.
