SWORDMAN Wow, still no Snow Leopard compatibility. I'm gonna have to find some other app, and re-catalog 900+dvd's I have. It's been too many weeks without being able to access my database. I should have been smarter and memorized all of my dvd's and which slip in the case I have them stored in. I'm an idiot to trust a freeware program. Oh well, it *was* a good program.

FENNELSOFTWARE Swordman, one just can't migrate a 5-year piece of work to a brand new architecture in 2 to 3 weeks, I'm sorry
That doesn't mean it won't happen, that doesn't mean I'm not into it
It just means I'm human, and quality-focused, as you've seemed to agree 2 weeks ago ;) ! Joke aside, from now on, I'll try to post news re my progress on this "project" on my blog. DJRUMPY Excellent piece of software. I don't require all sorts of bells and whistles that provide me with little/no value. I just need a list of titles, genre, rating, and 'loaned to' information. This app fits the bill perfectly, and it let me import my old CSV file with no muss or fuss! It does have internet lookup if you need that sort of thing, and it seems to work flawlessly as well. The interface is clean and easy to use, which I wasn't finding browsing most of the other free offerings. I'm grateful I stumbled on this one! Two Thumbs Up ;) (Version 1.7.8)

FENNELSOFTWARE Dear fsDM Users,Through this alert bulletin, we'd like to let you know that we're now aware of problems re the retrieval of DVD details through Amazon-based Web sources. We'd also like to tell you that we've already started investigating what could be the cause of such an issue, and we'll try to keep you informed of our progress towards solving it. Be assured we'll do our best to get your beloved DVD manager back and running as expected as soon as possible. But we don't ignore the possibility that those Web sources may be temporarily removed from fsDM if a new implementation of those retrieval mechanisms was going to be needed
We're really sorry for the inconvenience, and we'd like to thank you all for your patience and understanding in the meantime. The Team(Credit goes to Graham E. for reporting this alert to us.) (Version 1.6.7v44)

FENNELSOFTWARE Johnny, we've got a very good news for you: if you were using Excel for keeping your DVD library up-to-date, you simply have to export your data in CSV format. Then, from within fennel DVDManager, just invoke the "File > Import DVD Library
" menu item and then choose to import this .csv file. In a couple of seconds, you'll get your data back and will be ready to use our product instead to manage the workflow of your DVDs :) ! (Note: This CSV-based import feature is available since our very first version
) In case of any issue, don't hesitate to contact us directly, we'll be happy to help you in this process. Cheers. (Version 1.6.7v43)

FENNEL SOFTWARE Or "A tutorial to get your DVD library back once on Mac OS X v10.4":* If you chose to upgrade from Mac OS X "Panther" (or "Jaguar"), you shouldn't have anything to do: your user's account should be preserved, your data still available; you'd only have to launch (and enjoy using) fennel DVDManager under Tiger.* If you chose to clean install Mac OS X "Tiger" (i.e., through some formatting of your startup volume), be sure you've backup-ed your entire "DVDManager" folder (which is located in your user's account "Library" folder) before running this erasing installation process: you can either use Finder's File > Create Archive of "DVDManager" menu item (good), or our new File > Export DVD Library to Desktop action from fsDM v1.6 (recommended).Once under Tiger, you'd only have to expand this .zip archive into your new user's account "Library" folder, for fennel DVDManager to transparently load your data back on its next launch.Don't hesitate to contact us directly for any question... We wish you the smartest transition to Tiger ;) ! (Version 1.6)

FENNEL SOFTWARE Regarding this recent Mac OS X v10.3.9 issue, one can also try the simpler trick which consists in updating the prebinding. To do that, simply execute the following command in a Terminal: sudo update_prebinding -root / -force This process may take many minutes to fulfill completely; but it may also avoid to some of you the heavyweight re-installation of Apple's Security Update 2005-002 (even if the solution we prefer
) Hope this helps. Don't hesitate to contact us directly for any question/problem. Fennel Software (http://fennel.free.fr/) (Version 1.5.9)

RENé CARBONELL DVD Manager is nice, stable and as advertised: bare-boned. Works nicely but i also sum myself up to the list of persons with the desire that it would include an actors field and a "custom" category, since i very frequently find myself without the precise category for some of my movies. I am very thankful anyway to the developers for a nicely done work that can be used for free. (Version 1.5.7)

MACAHOLIC Not bad, especially for free. However, there's too much emphasis on "loans". I don't loan my discs so I don't need any tracking of them. There should be more of an emphasis on categorizing the DVD's themselves, such as listing actors, etc. (Version 1.5.6)

ROSE I really enjoy your product - it makes organizing my collection easy to do. I especially appreciate the fact that you account for multiple disc DVD sets. It makes sets such as Indiana Jones or Star Wars easier to classify. That, and location management - makes keeping track of where they are much simpler! I do have several suggestions for improvement though. One would be separating your 'Author' field into several searchable fields (i.e. Director, Writer, Actor). (Dealing with the auteur theory is a little much when one is just trying to organize their DVD collection!) As well, your detail section is a little sparse. For instance, along with actors, include roles. And distributor, producer, etc. Just to provide a little more searchable detail. Anyway, great product, keep up the great work! Looking forward to your next update! (Version 1.4)

ANONYMOUS It looks to me, by checking out the website, that this DVD Manager doesn't have some pretty essential features. For once, being able to search your collection for actors in a movie would be a good thing -- yet it has no place to store that info, except in the notes section. There should be a list that you can manage of actors in the movie with their roles, and this information should come right in from IMDB. (Version 1.2)

FENNELSOFTWARE Thanks for the kind words. And for the later part, it seems we still have to clarify a little bit the real goal of our product… As explained in our "Read Me", fennel DVDManager is *not* meant to build an extensive, highly-detailed database of your DVD library; but rather to help you manage the workflow of your DVDs. That's why we don't natively support data about audio or video aspects, nor technical details (like the entire cast, the languages, etc.) However, please note we've delivered a generic "Notes" field for you to store whatever data you need about a DVD; may it be the cast, the languages, etc. Hope this helps… (Version 1.1)

FENNELSOFTWARE v2.1.1 is not qualified for Mac OS X v10.3.5 (yet)We want to inform our users that we're currently experiencing a serious issue around our Amazon-based "Retrieve" action since the recent Mac OS X v10.3.5 update. For the time being—and until we manage to fix, and then qualify our product regarding this new OS version—, we advise you not to use Amazon as a source for retrieving the details of your DVDs. A workaround could be to only use IMDb's (or to manually add them…)We're sorry for the inconvenience, and wanted you to know we're working hard to get this functionality back ASAP. MALORKUS Great little app. I'd like to see more prominent IMDb support, like: 1) the movie summary text in the info drawer 2) maybe arrow links in the list of titles to Amazon/IMDb, like iTunes now has links to the music store 3) IMDb/Amazon links (and summaries) on the exported html pages. MAC NEW USER The CPU usage goes to maximum after retrieve 2 movie record. PowerBook become extremely slow, dock can't function properly, finder cannot function, can't force quit and can't shutdown or restart. The idea of this program is very good, we don't need to key in the data manually. But to me, stability is far more important than ease of used. I haven't confirm whether there is any file damage by this problem, but so sure, I won't give second try. (Version 2.1)
