SRF21C  This program is indeed fast and the defaults do exactly what I want to do, making the program dead simple to use.

Making a DVD backup consists of selecting the second of three options from the main menu, browsing to my Ripit DVD rip file, and then pressing the green button to select the burn to disk option. Click a button and away you go.

The aesthetics of the interface leave something to be desired as others have commented. I have not experimented with the advanced features.

It would be cool to find a way to chain this program with Ripit so that I could automate the entire backup process down to two steps; inserting the source DVD, and then inserting the blank 4.7GB DVD for burning.

R33C3  Wat do you mean man?

If its in a Video_ts folder u dont need to covert it. You need to shrink it... using this program it will do that quite quickly.... I dont know where ur getting this covert into "vob" from?

GARYI  Seems very fast but I am having two issues.

I have a folder of video TS films, and I want the programme to convert them all into their own Vobs, however it seems to want to combine them all.

Secondly there does not appear to be a way to remove of source, you can add all the time but the minus button is greyed out. So I have to quit the programme between rips.

ST00P!D M0NK3Y  Great program. FairMount and DVD2OneX have left off where CloneDVD and AnyDVD did on Windows. I was a little iffy switching completely to Mac for my DVD burning purposes, but the combination of these two programs has been a wonderful switch. This program works perfectly and has never crashed on me and has never produced a bad disc. I always burn on a slower speed.

However, this program has a grotesque and displeasing interface that makes me want to vomit all over the screen. I think the developers should make this wonderful piece of software a bit easier on the eyes. However, it's still a great program regardless. =P

MACROB  First off, this is not a ripping program. It will NOT copy commercial dvds to your hard drive.

This app compresses files that you have already ripped to the hard drive so they fit on a single sided DVD (4.4GB). And can burn them to a DVD if you wish.

I do have this, and recommend it to anyone backing up their DVD library. It is fast, the quality is great, and it even fixes some of the problems that copyprotection creates.

RUBAIYAT  Oddly enough the people at Handbrake virtually insist that you should:

1. RIP with DVD2oneX

2. Use Handbrake in the command line interface

If you don't, you end up wiping a lot of geek spit off your face if you have the effrontery to go to their forums with questions.

Personally I never got DVDoneX to work for me and have stuck with my tried and true MacTheRipper/Handbrake workflow.

COUGARBLUE  I haven't any experience with this software, but I have to toss in a comment about Mac the Ripper. I can't think of any reason to jump ship from "the ripper" which does a fabulous job in copying DVD's. For a free piece of definitely MAC s/w, it does a great job. Kudos out to the HandBrake, Senuti, and MactheRipper people for making the iPod and DVD work easy and giving away their fine skill.

Speed is a relative term, yet my daughter using an old iMac/G3 gets a ton of work done using MTR.

I'm always happy to see a developer come up with an improvement, however when a said developer comes up with a very windows piece of shareware that pales in comparison to Mac-style freeware, I'm not too sure they deserve my money, nor my respect.

XYPHER  Didn't believe the claims about the speed until I used it. It compressed an 8gig movie down to about 4.3gig in roughly half an hour on my eMac G4. That's a lot faster than DVD Shrink on Windows aswell as certain other well known Mac DVD encoders.

MBHOCKEY  Been using this program from version 1.x. Has worked almost flawlessly. But i'm a bit disappointed in the direction it is going.

Firstly, the newer 2.x UI is completely hideous. It is the epitome of an ugly Windows program ported to Mac OS X. The "wizard" look is a complete step backward compared to the 1.x interface.

The second thing is that this program costs a pretty penny and is becoming obsolete as newer copy protection schemes are being churned out each day by the movie companies. It simply crashes on newer DVDs with no explanation of why, and it has to do with the team not developing the program further to handle these new schemes.

I know it is not a DVD ripper, but that is no excuse for DVD2OneX's inability to handle newer titles that have quirky IFO files in them (even after they have been SUCCESSFULLY extracted by other means.)

With the developer making good money off each license of this app, it is not too much to ask for to have this functionality added.

DONPERREAULT  May not be the best user interface but it beats Toast hands down in speed and compatability. Try burning a Video_ts folder that contains empty cells with Toast, the said DVD will stall in your DVD player and be unplayable. With DVD2One you can deactivate the empty cells and burn a DVD that will work with your DVD player. I'd rather burn DVD backups that work and with DVD2One you get backup DVD's that work.

SHOTGUNWEDDINGS  I agree with both sides on this one.

¥ When DVD2oneX works properly it does the job easily and exactly as you wished.

BUT not since version 2 was released

¥ I stopped wasting my time with any version of it. MTR and Toast 7 do the job just fine now for me. I use MTR for a full backup then use Toast to make it fit a 4.3 DVD or to a DL. It's a cruder option but at least my DVD's play on all DVD's including desktop players!

¥ Since the introduction of DVD2oneX 2.0, I have had the same issue as some of the others here. DVD's that came out bad or completely useless on desktop DVD players! They all worked fine in my Mac or my GF's Compaq but not in any desktop player I tried.

I'm assuming it's got something to do with the compression method/engine since it's been drastically changed from the one that worked flawlessly in the older 1.x flavours.

I will not rate this normally good application or slam the developer(s), but something needs to be fixed with it's compression engine!

DVD's shouldn't keep choking or dying 3/4's of the way or limited to being watched on a computer only.

I've had both Panther & Tiger OSX and I've had 2 different DVD drives (SL now DL) since DVDxDV 2.0 was released, all with varying bad results.

Finally, this isn't the only application that doesn't allow the user to cancel a burn when an error is encountered and it would be nice if it became a standardized option for all burn software!

WISEWEASEL  Well, the app functions nicely, but unfortunately, they still haven't fixed the interface introduced in DVD2OneX 2.0, and it's still a huge pain in the ass to work with (this coming from a long-time user of DVD2OneX 1.x - so I'm no noob). They aren't listening to any of the feedback, and seem to be content to leave us with this lame interface, all for the sake of having a single code base for Mac and Windows. That's fine with me as long as they make the Windows version behave like the Mac one, and not vice-versa. If they hope to be successful on the Mac, they need to fix the interface ASAP!

FREELANCE  I had to post this review after reading the last few no star or 1 star reviews.

After downloading DVD2oneX 2.0.3, paying €47 for the app and receiving my serial within seconds, I successfully burned three DVD movies without making a single coaster. It didn't crash and the movies play perfectly. I didn't even read any instructions, so it's all pretty intuitive.

There are plenty of options to choose from, but the default settings worked for me.

There may be better or cheaper alternatives, I don't know - haven't tried any. But, this one works quite well.

IBLINK  I have been using DVD2oneX for some time now and never had a problem until I upgraded to the latest version. Seems that when the compression takes place something is going wrong, causing the DVD to stop playing in my DVD player. It works fine when playing the movie on my computer, but when using a regular DVD player, the video stops and then shuts down. I am then left looking at the DVD Player default screen.

I have since reverted to a previous version and all is well. Wasted a few DVD-Rs though. :-(

MBHOCKEY  100 dollars?

I bought the first version of this software, it was $50 (and there seems to be no price break for previous owners of this guy's software).

Even then it was pricey, and before Popcorn was released.

I would save your money, and get Popcorn. Yes this program was good, but Popcorn and Toast will do MORE than this program for a fraction of the price.

Maybe this guy made a mistake when he did the Frank to USD conversion?

ROBINGO88  Not sure where this $100 figure is coming from... just went over to the developer's site and the program is about $60US for new users and about $30US for an upgrade from version 1.x... i'm no defender of this developer (there does seem to be a -if i can't reproduce the problem, the problem doesn't exist- attitude, and the program has become distincly less mac-like in the user interface... but with a Quad G5, this thing swings, and lets you choose every combination of title and cell (and audio track) without making you pay more (like DVDRemaster does)... but at the end of the day, its just a tool... if you don't think it's worth the price, use a different tool

MACBETH  It does what it says on the tin, and does it fast and well. The only problem is the astronomically high price. It's hard to believe, but this program costs $20 more than Toast Titanium 7, a complete CD/DVD authoring suite that can also compress and burn decrypted or un-encrypted DVDs. Now that Roxio has integrated Popcorn into Toast, Toast 7 does everything DVD2One does plus so much more that you would be out of your mind if you bought this one-trick pony for a higher price. Toast's compression algorithm produces excellent results; the quality of DVDs compressed with DVD2One is in no way superior.

If the developer lowered the price to $25 or less, DVD2One might still have a future as an efficient, low-budget DVD backup tool, but at $100, it simply has no right to exist. I'm really sorry to say that, I'd rather support an independent programmer than a company like Roxio. But the price is too far beyond reality.

SIGHING DEEPLY  Is there an alternative to this that IS based on Open Source projects? I've liked past 1.4x versions of this app, but don't consider being forced into a new non-standard interface justifying a new license. I would have rather seen a new version of this where it was stated it was built in Xcode 2.x and would support not only Altivec on G4/G5 now, but SSE3 when Macs on Intel ship.

Is this app using all CPU cores on the high end quad-core G5's?

Only complaining is what people want to do.

And this is the only application with this problem ofcourse.

Read the info about this app and see what it can do (much) more than the earlier version.

Does anyone realize how to make a cross platform application?

And yes apple is changing libraries and architectures inbetween system updates (10.3.x -> 10.4.x)

Give it a try , DVD2oneX still has te best picture quality there is.

And it can select your favorite language (audio and subtitles) automatically

And There is a grid option to share the power off all you pcs and macs

And now you can make audio dvds also.

And it will burn for you (including erasing a dvd-rw if you want)

ANONYMOUS  Friends I know using this app love it. I'd like to switch to this app instead of Popcorn, but since I have a slower G4 I'm thinking of waiting until next year and possibly getting an Intel-based Mac. I'm sure this app would not be happy at all under emulation (no Altivec!) so I'm curious if the developer has decided to offer a native Mac on x86 version.

I'm sure this is one of those apps where just telling Xcode to make an Intel build isn't enough. But perhaps that could build most of the app (all of the interface), then the compression code could be copied over from the Windows version???

Has anyone compared the speeds of the current Mac and Windows versions?

Even if the new Macs could easily be made to run Windows too, I don't want to use the Windows version. The virus/spyware hassles are just too much to deal with.

If an affordable version-switch pricing policy is offered, I could go ahead and buy now. I really don't want to pay full price twice.

I have given Toast a shot, and while it works, the quality hasn't been as good as DVD2one in my opinion.

ANONYMOUS  No... doesn't support double/dual layer... it doesn't do any burning, just compression to fit video onto a single layer.

If you want compression and burning in a single app, you need Popcorn.

If you want burning only, you need Toast.

Both support double layer.

the reason this doesn't support dual/double layer dvd's is because the purpose is for those who do not have dual layer or double layer burning capabilities but want the movie anyway. it's for shrinking it down that little bit so it fits on one disk... seriously i mean think man!

TSPIDER  Can't say anything about this program, but do have to put in a good word for Popcorn which has worked for me on 200+ disks WITHOUT FAIL!

Haven't burned one coaster, and only had one film (Pirates of the Carib) which couldn't be properly compressed, due to multiple audio tracks. (Popcorn doesn't compress audio). Compression on my 500 mhz G4 typically takes some 70 to 90 minutes for a full disk (w/ all extras, etc.), and the quality is excellent (but not perfect!)

As I said, I don't know about DVD2OneX, and it may be great, too. (I'd love to know to see the two programs go head-to-head in a picture image and compression speed contest. I'd certainly be willing to spend more if I could do things faster and better!). I just noted that a good number of "reviewers" had knocked Popcorn, which is a truly great program at a great price that has been needed for a LONG time. Don't know what their agenda really is, but they aren't telling you the truth.

TSPIDER  My post was not a review, but a COMMENT, designed to provide needed balance in light of the entirely unnecessary assaults on Popcorn, which is a fine product. I clearly state that I am not reviewing DVD2oneX, but merely defending Popcorn, a product I like and use. Frankly, I believe that the anti-Popcorn reviews are not coming from real users of either program, but from the developers of DVD2oneX. BOTTOM LINE - DVD2oneX needs to make an effort to distinguish its product from Popcorn if it intends to survive. As Popcorn is not perfect, this is not an impossible task.

SUN RA  Was debating between using Popcorn and DVD2one for compression. Yes, it's easier to use Popcorn because it compresses and burns with one click. But, I found that DVD2one does a better job as far a video quality. I compressed and burned a 8.1GB DVD to 4.1GB DVD and noticed that there was more pixelation with the Popcorn burn rather than the DVD2one (burned with Toast Titanium). The compression quality is much better with DVD2one in comparison. Although I have to make one more step with another app to burn the DVD.....quality is more important to me. Recommend DVD2one if you want better quality video compression.

GFS  Regarding the last review, your half right, Ive used popcorn and it DOES accept Video_TS files, as far as the copyrighting issue, you can just rip it using 0sex(search here for it) to a dvd image or Video_TS folders and then drop it into popcorn and there you have your backups.

I HAVE had some problems though, Such as jerky playback on certain players with certain films. So basically..popcorn works but is not without its flaws that i HOPE will be adressed in the next upgrade. Oh and dvd2onex is a great app, whilst im here.

JOSEPH WATT  Popcorn? You got to be kidding. Have any of you actually tried to use this yet? I guess not, because if you had you would already know that it will not allow you to do anything with your "region free" info, provided via Mac The Ripper.

Yeah, I fell for the "buy it now for just $29.00" rip off promotion that Roxio (oh that's right Sonic Solutions bought them out) offered for owners of Toast. Unbeknownst to me that this was a complete waste of money, I took them up their offer, only to find out that POPCORN (unlike the full version of Toast, which I had been using already for the final stage of DCD copying) could not and would not accept the VIDEO_ST files. Stating it contained copyrighted material.

Now go figure. The full version of Toast will read and burn anything with one click, but POPCORN (from the makers of Toast) won't accept the very files that moments earlier burned fine in Toast. What's up with that??

I suspect that the people on here pushing POPCORN are either employees of Roxio (now Sonic Solutions) or just read about Popcorn and started spreading the word without actually using it. For the latter - won't they be surprised! You think paying for DVD2one pissed you off, wait till you shell out your money for POPCORN, only to be "turned away at the door" when it announces you can not burn the Mac The Ripper material.

VOBBLER  Wowman... sorry, but you are wrong...

DVD2OneX and Popcorn are essentially the same in terms of their basic purpose.

* Both compress dual-layer DVD to fit on a single-layer

* Both offer options to copy the entire disc or only the selected movie, audio and languages

DVD2OneX includes some additional obscure features like "join mode" - which allows you to join 2 full DVDs onto a single disc.

Popcorn includes burning capabilities, which DVD2OneX does not. You need additional software for that.

All in all... Popcorn is a better option for me (and people like me) who want to compress and burn in one step with one application, and don't need a myriad of extraneous features and settings.

If DVD2Onex is working out for you then that's great... as they say... if it's ain't broken then don't try and fix it... but for anyone who hasn't purchased DVD2OneX yet... I would recommend giving Popcorn consideration.

Compression and burning in a single app for less than the cost of DVD2OneX.

ROBERT B,  This is a great little program. It's too bad that it is a demo, and you have to pay for the full application. With the Demo, you can still use it for what you downloaded it for. But with the full application, you get much more. I'm debating about buying the full app.

Use Mac The Ripper to rip the DVD onto your computer and to get rid of the CSS coding. Then use DVD2oneX 1.4.1 to shrink your DVD in order to fit it onto your 4.7GB DVD-r or DVD+r, whichever you might have. My Powerbook is DVD-r, so I suspect all others are as well. After you have shrunk it, use Toast OSX in order to burn your DVD onto a blank DVD. Toast is program that costs money, I don't believe that there are any demo's for it either. There are ways to get around this, ie. Limewire, Poisoned, etc.

When you're all done, you should have a proper "back-up" DVD for your collection. Just follow the steps.

**Note** make sure that you purchase the right burnable DVD's. Make note if you have a SuperDrive and also what format it is in, either DVD-r, or DVD+r.

VERONICA  I try to answer that question: MacTheRipper can remove the CSS encryption and region code protection. DVD2oneX can reduce the size of a movie, in order to fit on an empty DVD. I use both apps in order to copy DVDs.

ANONYMOUS  The only difference I can see is that when I use DVD2OneX, without first using MacTheRipper, I have found that that the copy doesn't play on some DVD players, that would normally play if I first use MacTheRipper. I'm unsure as to why this happens, but I've tested this and have found that using MacTheRipper first and DVD2OneX second gives me better results.

ANONYMOUS  I should also add, that with DVD2OneX, you can compress the output (user defined), making it possible to fit a main feature on a DVD+-R (4.7) disk. MacTheRipper will do this also, but will extract either full disk/main feature at its normal file size. I hope this helps.

ANONYMOUS  Ok guys here's the deal...

I've been doing this, illegally, for a while now and am quite good at it. Here's how it works.

Step 1. Use MacTheRipper to remove the CSS encryption from your DVD and copy it to your hard drive. You will have a 7.xGB folder on your hands now. (I have my comp set up to go straight to MacTheRipper when a DVD is inserted)

Step 2. Use DVD2OneX to compress the DVD and create a .IMG file (should be about 4.36GB) You gotta use MSKOFS to create the .IMG file (instructions included with DVD2OneX) or use DVDImager(freeware)

Step 3. Use Toast or DiskUtility to burn the .IMG file to a DVD

And that's the whole process!

ANONYMOUS  A new version with an alternative compression method. Released weeks after the windows update Apparently they all had a three weeks holiday! ) and they have hiked up the price.

It does the job but it will be a matter of time before a free alternative comes out.

Untill then I will use Handbrake and convert to DivX to watch on my DVD player.

Over priced now - windows version is cheaper, yes they have a wider base but it looks like it only took a couple of days to add the new engine !

Granted it does do its job very well but with the price increase they are getting closer to FASTDVDCOPY at $99 and it does it all in one click.

After you "rip" the DVD with MacTheRipper you will have a large file that won't fit on a DVD... that's why you need this program... it makes it fit on a single DVD.

BOB WEINER  Excellent program! It does its job quite well, and now I've been able to make back-ups of a few DVDs in our collection. For people cribbing about the price -- if you had to replace 3 DVDs in your collection it would probably average $60. I think the price is fair for what it does. I'm very satisfied with this purchase and encourage anyone who's contemplating the notion of backing up their DVDs to go with DVD2OneX. Highly recommended.

So if you are having troubles, it's not the software! Don't put a label on it!

GUYGUY  Well, I bought version 1.2. Couldnt get it to work. I got v. 1.3. Ripped the movie "Cast Away" using DVDBackup [that took about 45 minutes] and now I'm using v. 1.3 to compress the files. It's set in Disk Copy and Constant modes. So far only 31% of the files have been done and it has already taken over 01:24:17 of time.

I've read all the rave reviews about speed and quality, etc., but this is very slow. What am I doing wrong here?

G4 - 450; 1.5 Gig RAM; Panther 10.3; Superdrive; 200gb Hitachi 7200RPM w/8mg cache Hard drive.

I'll appreciate some advice and I have yet to burn the movie when the files have been completely processed.

So, I'll have to rate this a 1 star until later or someone [the developer?] tells me why it's taking so long to process this movie.

BTW; No other programs are running other than DVD2OneX v 1.3

Then i use DVD2oneX - this take about 80% cpu time and creates my new DVDr-ready disc in around 15/25mins, depending. Usually around 15mins tho...

Do a Get Info on this folder and it's around the 4.3gig size it should be.

ANONYMOUS  Well, the original poster said he has a G4 450 and was complaining about the processing time. I have a G4 400 and it takes about the same time. This is to be expected and is actually quite good for mpeg2 encoding with a low-end G4 (that's what's happening). As for slow extraction with a G5: most burner's firmware limits video DVD extraction to 2X. Try going to rpc1.org and looking for hacked firmware to remove this restriction. You may need to install your drive in a PC for this procedure.

According to my Mac tech friends it is a Stuffit Expander problem - stuffit 8 appears to unstuff the app OK but then when you try to run it from the dock you get the icon bounce and nothing else.

This applies to OSEx and DVDBack-up also.

The answer is to use the very latest version of Panther and very latest version of Stuffit (8.1 I think)

HUSH HUSH  To Anon, who was attempting to make a backup copy of his/her DVD but couldn't on a Mac: The software I use to remove the region encoding and CSS is "DVDBackup." I also have oSEx which helps in case DVDBackup can't get it done, which happened about 3 times.

But the FIRST thing you must do is play your DVD, not the menu, but the movie, for about 15 seconds or so, so that the computer will recognize and permit the DVDs files. If you don't (like I did this morning), you'll have folders filled with 4 gigs of worthless and useless files, which won't be recognized on anything.

Once that's done, THEN you use the DVDBackup/oSEx. Another important hint: Make certain to first purchase around 2-3 DVD/RWs to practice the writing of the DVD. Make sure of what your burner's write type is, whether it accepts "+", "-", or both. At least, if the DVD writing fails, you'll still be able to reuse the DVD. If it works, just pop a DVD/R in and burn it, which will give you a successful backup of your movie. Good luck.

[... We recently had the opportunity to test this utility, and we can safely say it works as advertised. However it is rather expensive, especially if one considers the fact that it can't work alone, but it requires the use of the freeware DVDbackup utility to decode the DVD. Of course the authors of DVD2oneX do not share any of their profits with the author of DVDbackup, and they also charge extra for the Mac OS version of their utility, maybe to "punish" us for being Mac users. ...]

IAMARTBOY  I really don't get all the people griping about this program. It does exactly what it advertises. With the addition of a freeware decrypter and Toast, you can backup DVDs painlessly.

I haven't noticed any drop in quality with the compression, and in 20+ burns I've only had one disc with a single frame stutter. The movie-only discs play fine in my 1 1/2 year old JVC player (not on RW discs though).

Read the description and the instructions- if want what this program does, try it out. If you don't, then be quiet- or at least run spell check before you write a review.

FRONTPAGE  This is a compression utility, basically, that can fit a dual layer DVD onto your 4.7 gig DVD. You'll need at least three other applications to make a working DVD/R or RW replacement to run in a DVD player. Download 0Sex or DVDBackup (both free) for encryption, this, and purchase Toast Titanium (or find a similar free burning utility). Until someone makes a stand- alone app or something a little simpler, you'll probably decide to purchase this to make copies of your CSS- encrypted DVDs. Unless you want to fork over at least $250 to buy Virtual PC, which will of course let you use Windoze apps that are free. I mean, if you have already purchased VPC, use it. I'd rather fork over that kind of money and get a used working PC for that price. So, do the math: Pay a Mac software developer $50 which might encourage further development, or pay $250 to Microsoft, who has stopped any further development of Internet Explorer for Mac (is that correct info?) Bill Gates will not get my money, if I can help it. Someone somewhere suggested taking the app Forty- Two and using that. It claimed to take over 70 hours to work on one of my DVDs. In that time, the RIAA and John Ashcroft Police would be banging down my door by the time it would finish. You should act like Saddam and move every 2 days before they track you.

I tried the 30- minute demo, it worked and decided on the full purchase. Other than a failure of successfully backing up "Shawshank," the app worked well. I might or might not post some tips and tricks, too.

Some have been pretty bitter in general and towards the software developers, flaming them to make the demo to compress a complete DVD, but maybe the developers are protecting themselves. The user could perhaps delete the preferences of the app after burning each DVD, so with just a few mouseclicks, they could one by one copy their whole library of movies without shelling out a penny for DVD2OneX.

It takes around 34 minutes for either of my computers to fully complete backing up my average DVD with all features intact. I have performed copies where the DVD is the same or smaller file size than a DVDs capacity, and have also performed compression from around 9 Gigs to the 4.7 Gig format. I would recommend the app and purchasing the key, until someone comes up with something better.

It is quite stable, and worth the total when you figure that it helps you save your original DVDs. I deducted a bit for Features since it couldn't take on Shawshank. Ease, since you really have to watch what you're doing and it also depends on other software to run.

And also first use a DVD Backup prog for download to disk then use the dvd2onex prog and finally burn ir to a dvd (dont forget to put DVD format in the Other Windows ) to see this windows just hold button on it. This program reduce the quality and have problem to play the final product on a DVD player (noncomputer player) See ya!!

DAVE  Very good programme. As for DivX rules comments: If you're looking for an app to just rip a DVD and remove encryption etc...

*Those* tools are free for the Mac too...

This tool actually comes from the PC world. Where it is popular. This kind of apps aren't free anywhere. Stupid weenie.

DIVX RULES  I agree with leoofborg, this is a rip off. It can't decrypt a DVD, it is useless. How can I backup a DVD I've bought with this piece of junk? It needs a FREEWARE to work. This greedy company can't even make a decrypter, maybe to say their app is legal. That's crazy!!! And they sell it 50 bucks. Man, it's April 1st. By the way these kind of tools are free for Windows.

ANONYMOUS  I experience similar problems as Wallace : some films (maybe other than initially zone 1 films) cannot be watched on some DVD players (at least on some Toshiba and Panasonic) after resized with DVD2one versions 1.1.1 and 1.1.0.

However I do not have this problem when using version 1.0.1. for the same files.

Did you choose the "full disk option" (necessary for viewing on a home DVD player)?

Did you burn at low speed, with a large enough buffer, without interference from other softwares and with a powerful enough machine (I use G4, 2x1.25 Gh, 512 M of RAM)?

Did you fully test the burnt disk with the burner's test?

Did you try another brand of DVD-R (avoid Mac's DVD-R: they are often defective)?

Did you try different films?

Did you try to email DVD2one's maker (just joking)?

MAKINGMOVIES  DVD2oneX is a DVD backup tool not a decription tool (decripting is not legal thats the reason why it is not in).

While ripping, rip to DVD folders than everything will work (also your menus, read the MANUAL!!!)

Running freeware in a pc emulation (you also bought virtual PC hu? or just stole it) is never as fast as you describe. DVD2oneX is very fast also the pc version of dvd2one is the fastest there is. Why using a pc emulator if you own a MAC!! Also the quality ,which is the concern of many users, is outstanding compared to al the others out there (read the many reviews)

Than there is the easiest interface of all.

But the choise is yours. You don't have to buy it, you may buy it if you like it.

Strange that some people always have to complain while others are realy happy that such a tool isi available.

By the way they (the guys of DVD2oneX) always answer my questions

LEOOFBORG  You don't need this.

You don't need this app. All you need is a big hard disk, DVDBackup (googlize), Virtual PC, and DVDShrink.

Since they require decrypted data anyway, just use DVDBackup to spill your DVD (with named folder/VIDEO_TS) into a temp directory.

Then fire up DVDShrink via Virtual PC. DVDShrink normally takes 60min to process with PC hardware, and 90-120min under emulation. Dump the contents to a folder with the /VIDEO_TS/

It's obnoxious for a vendor to ride on the coat tails of freeware and then charge such an exorbitant price. If you're not going to bundle a whole solution (with the permission of the creators) then get out of the game.

It the developers of DVDShrink ever port it to OSX, these guys are toast.

ALBERT  I, too, have problems with the film's menus.

Whatever the source is coming from (DVDBackup or OSeX, the interactive menus of films resized with DVD2oneX are no longer working on my home reader. Note that They do work on the computer reader.

So, I can, see three explanations :

- those who say they could use 1.1.1. successfully only used it on a computer,

- there is a localization problem, not met with english systems or english speaking films.

- Some brands of home DVD readers cannot use the interactive menus of DVD2oneXed films.

Unfortunately the maker and seller of DVD2oneX does not answer to the mails about it.

ROBIN  Well I bit the bullet, ran the gauntlet of Internet payment and coughed up the money, even though feel the demo version is in no way a real method of testing the product. Aggrivating!!

Having said that, I can say DVD2OneX does exactly what it says on the tin and does it very well. I've not had one problem on my G4 (933MHz, 1GB RAM)running 10.2.6.

So this was one aggrivated user who is quite happy in the end.

ANONYMOUS  I could not agree more with those who want a fully testable version. How can you test a program thats supposed to compress 7+ GB into a a 4.4GB DVD in the blink of an eye, if all you can test is 30 mins, what does that prove. All it preoves is that somebody can decode 30 mins of a movie, useless!.

I contacted the Author directly, he was arrogant and could not care less about the logic of our argument.

Won't buy it!!!!

ANONYMOUS  version 1.1.1 is just as buggy as was 1.1.0.

It seems that these people no longer care about having films' menus work properly on standard home DVD readers.

Stick to version 1.0.1. and ask the money back for the useless disks burned with the so-called "updated" versions.

EDUBBS  Wow. That's about all I can say. This program is absolutely the most amazing thing made to date for the mac. I have been manic all day telling everyone who doesn't care about this program. I'll admit, I was too a bit skeptical about forking over fifty bucks to buy it, but it is so well worth it. It has the fastest, and best quality compression I've ever witnessed. Compressed 6.5 GB to 4.4 in under an hour. WELL, WELL worth the money. Try out the demo and you'll realize the caliber of this program!

ANONYMOUS  If your time is not important to you go somewhere else. However, if you are tired of waiting 6 hours - 2 days for something to be done then buy this app (well worth it). On my FW800 DP 1.25 it took 17 minutes on an old G4 400 it took 32 minutes! Not days, not hours, minutes. Want to whine about the 30 minute demo... go to their forum and register, thats what its there for. But one fact remains, there are a lot more people happy with DVD2OneX then you "30 min" demo nazis.

ANONYMOUS  I tried the ?demo? It said I had to use a not named program to get files it could use, won't read a DVD direct. I did that. Then it complained I had too much data for the demo-size limit. OK, I got rid of all but 7 min and it REALLY RAN. ONLY FILE WOULD NOT OPEN! Toast burned it but nothing reads it. And it was a bigger file than what I started with. Demo has saved me nearly $50 till they can make it work. Good points-it didn't crash my system.

ANONYMOUS  This is excellent for 'shrinking' DVD to fit on consumer DVD blanks - it is not for fitting it onto CDs

If you've got a Combo-Drive this ain't the App for you

This is simply an excellent DVD video compression engine.

ffmegX & Forty-Two are transcoders than enables you to distil a DVD into different 'compressed' formats eg.DivX
