MUSIKMAN  Version 5.4 works perfekt on Macbook Pro 17" Unibody.

the Userinterface is too small on my Display with 1920x1200 px.

Text and distances can be corrected however in defaults.

Please for larger dissolutions adapt!

MANOFDOGZ  This mini review is aimed at people looking for the first time and trying to decide. it is not a detailed test.

In the main, this is a very good app. I have found it very stable on both Tiger and leopard using a (non intel) 1.5Ghz powerbook with 2Gb Ram and a 2Mhz imac. Plus points over several other app's are: 1) it will happily play itunes protected files albeit with some restrictions on processing (e.g.midband control, full e.q. and effects such as delay and reverb)- however, these are not the fault of Disco XT but the nature of protected files. 2) has both a manual mode and fully automated mode. The latter allowing you to set up an auto-fading playlist whilst you the DJ go to get a pint, visit the John or whatever. 3) decent interface with various skins, a couple of things you don't need which thus clog up the page a little, but generally not confusing. 4) well written guide which assumes little or no knowledge.

If you want to use the BPM facility make sure you have a decent mac as this is processor intensive. The whole program used to be pretty processor intensive but is much leaner now.

My only gripe is with support. they're good but can be slow. to get stability with os x 10.5 I needed an update (which should be free) but you have to email them first! With a gig on Saturday, I emailed on the previous Wednesday. It's now monday and have heard nothing (despite a reminder sent). Consequently, I have had to pay again for a full version in order to get the upgrade!! i hope they will refund but first i hope they will reply...

So advice is to keep up with the upgrades even if they are too frequent.

Some people on this forum have been recommending DJay. I initially rejected it because it appeared to lack an auto feature but I was wrong! Playing with it now it's really rather nice....

SNOWLPRD  Wow. These near-daily updates are getting out of hand. This developer needs to realize that the "release early, release often" mantra can be (and currently is being) taken to the extreme. I'd recommend releasing at least *half* as often as this developer currently spits out new versions.

CABERLIN  I prefer frequent updates. Better than waiting ages to get bugs out. - If each update would not destroy the previous preferences and would maybe run in the background, it would be perfect imho.

I must say I like this app a lot.

LUCHSOB  Best Music-mixing App for Mac. Thats what I need to make good Partys. I can search Songs out of my Library adding them to a Playlist or let Disco DJ play automatically so that I can dance. You can get a Pro App for less than 30 Bucks.

Ok, Disco DJ takes a lot of Performance so You better use a MB-P. G4 or even G5 dont make really fun.

KILOBIKE  Wow, this program blinds with neat features and pretty much all you need functionality.

But hey - why does it eat up 1.2GB of of for doing absolutely nothing? Why does it always use 100% CPU time? Why does it ask if I want to quit, and on yes - doesn't? Why do I have to force quit it after trying to import a single directory with one album worth of music?

So is it worth $30? Absolutely not! And I don't see it ever beeing worth it.

ALEKSI STRANDBERG  Hi all,

Recently new releases of Disco have been coming quite fast. I've thought it might be a little annoying to download and install minor updates of Disco every two days. Starting at version 2.7 i've decided to make beta releases of versions first. The software will then be in beta state for 2-3 weeks. These beta releases are only available from the "Beta Releases" section of www.discosw.net

REEDYBLOKE  what is the point of emulating twin decks with a digital audio app. we use two decks because an arm or laser can only play one disk at a time. a mac/pc can play a dozen aiff/wav's simultaneously. i have given up looking for a dj app that is not noddy like iTunes or a waste of digital audio flexibility by trying to be a 'real' dj device or a professional studio editing suite costing an arm and a leg.

somebody please design an app that lays up aiffs/tracks as sets and offers a variety of beatmatched audio transitions like FCP/iMovie offers a variety of seamless video transitions.

Ableton's Live is the only one that has thought about this from the bottom up and gives you what a computer does best and that is multi-tasking and not copying twin decks. Does anyone know of such an app?

LOU KASH  You said that already: Ableton Live.

If you need it, use it.

The point of emulating a CD player interface is to give the user a familiar and easy-to-understand interface. Some like it this way. Some obviously not. So what.

Ableton Live works like a sequencer. While I'm very familiar with Logic, I found Live's interface ugly and hard to get used to (I have Live Lite OEM version which is bundled with various audio devices).

So for deejaying I use DJ-1800 (the software). For creating my own music I use Logic.

LOU KASH  Quote: > "I think DJ-1800 is a REALBasic Application."

Yes it is. And so is Disco. Or what else you believe is the rbframework.dylib you might find inside the Disco package?!

And so what?

DJ-1800 does its job better than most other apps in its category. Disco is not really in DJ-1800's category. Disco is a basic DJ app for beginners. DJ-1800 is aimed at professionals who don't need the Traktor "featuritis" overkill and who rather work as "traditional" DJs playing tracks (but not only) and therefore don't have any benefits from using e.g. Ableton Live either. You get that all at a reasonable price. Just like Disco, by the way.

Hahaha. Now that must be a review from a real "expert"...

Following this "logic", applications like Photoshop, Logic, GarageBand, iPhoto, iDVD etc. etc. must be a stinking pile of crap. Whereas the most useful app in my Applications folder obviously must be Stickies: after all it takes only 280 KB hard drive space!

Well, anyway. A laugh doesn't hurt. :/

BRAD T   This program is ok, but lacks the needs of a true DJ. I am a DJ for weddings and am looking for something to take over for my cd controller and just use itunes and an interface. This software is not the answer. The search continues.

ANONYMOUS  "a real dj uses vinyl..."

- this has got to be the most useless comment ever. i suppose that 2 many djs, optimo, dj unknown, dj shadow are all fake djs (although critically acclaimed as the best out there). get into the future. there was a time when people mixed with tape decks - we just don't need to anymore and can focuses more on the music, rather than the format.

ANONYMOUS  The creators of this software have knowingly copied and pasted the exact interface of my Mac DJ application, "DJ-1800", and provided it as a skin for Disco. They even ship the skin with v2.2. This is shameful. Guys, if you can't be bothered to design your own interfaces, don't bother at all.

I would urge anyone who doesn't support copying of other people's copyrighted designs and software to avoid this product and look elsewhere. I would advise MacUpdate not to list this program.
