KEY-LOREB  Since I got my MacBookPro and installed a fresh version of AsktheDJ, it no longer works. The songs load, bpm is displayed, when I start playing song they are garbeld and then just stop. I sent several e-mails 7 crash logs to "wildbits" w/o a reply, also on Apple's Support/Discussion site w/o any reply.

I'm not using protected songs from iTune store. If aanyone has a suggestion, advise.

ANONYMOUS  this program worked ok when i had a smaller library. it labeled a percentage of the libraries bpm tags with results were (correct, half and double). i realize this is a very tricky thing to make work correctly.

also it doesn't export the readings to itunes with tags over 2.2

also i have had my lacie drives do the same thing as reported above, chugging and clicking, even after the app has stopped reading tracks.

all in all i say this is a piece of junk, slightly novel at best. the interface sucks, i can't believe i am going to say this but, couldn't you have made it a bit more standardized guys? for useabilities sake?

sadly this seems to be the best app on the market for inputing bpm tags to itunes.

someone could make a small fortune off of developing an itunes plug in that read tracks in the library and auto-filled in the bpm. even i would buy it.

BEN HALDENBY  I am stunned at how this awful application has trashed my iTunes library. I ran it a few times and dragged and dropped a few tunes from iTunes into it, it sussed out the tempo correctly for a few songs and wrote the BPM tag back to iTunes nicely. Great!

Then it started slowing down and I could hear my Lacie FireWire drive start to make weird noises. It was chugging and make a 'chk, chk, chk, chk' noise like a ticking clock. Next time I opened iTunes it was all screwed up, permanent beach ball, ticking clock again from the FW drive. So I ran Disk Utility and Repair Disk on the FW drive and it seemed to fix the drive okay. But now a good percentage of my 23,000 track iTunes database has been wiped out, and many, many more have had their database links broken. The files are all in a folder called lost+found and though I've been able to salvage a lot, a lot more are permanently wrecked.

How dare they make such bold claims about this app. Christ I am so mad, I could spit. It's taken me nearly six years to build up that library and Ask the DJ has wiped half of it out in about 10 mins. These people have a lot to answer for. I am still awaiting a reply from their support department.

CJKOWALSKY  The cartoon should be gotten rid of. I have never used this and never would for that reason alone. There are plenty of cheap and free DJ apps out there whose developers didn't stoop to this level to market their product. This product is disturbing and should be removed from availability by MacUpdate until they get their heads into this century. Very poor guys, very very poor.

ANONYMOUS  Yea I don't like the cartoon either. It would be cool if there were several options for how you can have the dancer look. For example, instead of a girl dancing, a guy break dancing.

ANONYMOUS  Very basic interface that can get the job done if you are trying to avoid someone messing up your iTunes settings/playlists (ie. set it up running on it's own as a self serve jukebox at a party). However, am I the only one that finds the cartoon girl on the interface really ugly/disturbing/vaguely racist?

ANONYMOUS  there once was a time in dance music when intros and outros were not the providence of the Devil... and a skillful DJ knew when to use them in a set

then again.... this was with vinyl, not mp3's where everything is formulaicly sequenced and a constant beat is considered High Art

Sad (and I have nothing against "new" media applications -- it's the user that's the issue

HAN DESHI  Fat App! No crashes, no big calculation smooth running: iMac 1GHz / 1G-RAM. A little bit overpriced for shareware. BTW how to switch of the dancer, I'll do it now myself ;-)

ANONYMOUS  Slow interface on my G4/400 & iBook 700. Transition calculation is painfull.

Neat app, and does do a fairly good job on the transitions - although they could be a tad longer.

As Guifa said "MP3s claimed by iTunes are not recognized, only those claimed by QuickTime player!". Too bad I rip everything with iTunes. (Drag and drop 'iTunes' mp3's does work however).

All in all, I'd buy this app if it was a *reasonable* price, around $15 maybe. $30 is too much for it.

GUIFA  This could easily become a truly great piece of software in the future. The interface is very unique, and I like it. It reminds me a lot of choosing songs on DDR. However, some things could be added such as tool-tips, or more in-depth help. Calculating the transitions takes a long time, maybe I'm not versed enough in audio, but 20+ minutes on a 400 G3 sounds a little long to test a single transition. Also, MP3s claimed by iTunes are not recognized, only those claimed by QuickTime player! You can't even select them manually. Definitely a cool way to show off Quartz though. Perhaps the dancing man could be made a little more sophisticated and made into an iTunes visual plugin? I'd pay for something like that. Definitely an app I'm going to keep looking into. If the bugs are gone, the shareware price will be well worth it for me.

ANONYMOUS  Very unstable, crashes all the time. Seems to have trouble playing my mp3s, it kinda skips sometimes. Can't really use it. Nice attempt though.
