CARLOS85  I installed this and then selected the option for it to startup when I log into my computer. I later restarted my computer to find that two stacks had been added to my dock (Documents and Downloads) Time Machine was also placed in my dock as well. I had previously not had those on there. I removed them, removed Check Off and all was fine. I then reinstalled Check Off only to have the same thing happen again.

Is there a reason why Check Off is causing this?

SAGO  Finally I found what I was searching for, I tryed so many "to do" apps but in the end I was regularly using textedit and ending with a total chaos.

the menu bar feature is the TOP and the way to arrange notes is perfect.

A donation is on its way to the developer. thanks!

ps:"just a secondary detail, if there was the possibility to set the icons in a smaller size, that would be very appreciated, at least there are just 5 icons and are very easy to remember"

BEIJU  Shooting my own troubles... my first post was spectacularly wrong (I'm beiju). I said that there was a delay... well, that is not true. It just took me thirty seconds to two minutes of clicking to hit the gray part, which is the only part that will open the application. It does run pretty well under tiger, except for that it doesn't communicate well with other applications' windows... it usually opens under the active application and you have to click the window to bring it to the front. Still, that's no reason to not use a great app, although i'd still like the 3.6 version if anyone's still got it.

WIDGETMAN  Easily the best and most useful todo list I've ever seen and used. This application is worthy of being bundled with the operating system in my opinion. It is extremely easy to use and learn, as it simply just works as you'd expect it to work. The interface is very easy to look at and will feel instantly comfortable to any user. I can't recommend this application enough!

It's a shame that the rating system only goes up to 5.

SIMICHAVEL  IMO, still the best check-list utility around: easy on the eyes (great UI), easy on the fingers (keyboard shortcut enabled), easy on the brain (self-explanatory).

Requests: (1) automatic "check for updates" option; more importantly, (2a) due date column; (2b) ability to arrange by due date with one click.

What'll it take ($$) to get a corresponding menubar icon? If you give us a concrete target maybe we can work to meet it.

SIDETRACKED  Love this little app! I use this daily as my only to-do list. Simple, easy, direct. Free (although I use it so much I felt compelled to send a donation).

There are certainly to-dos with more bells and whistles, but I found they got in the way or slowed things down. This takes a tiny bit of real estate in my menu bar, opens and closes with the touch of a hot-key, and can be organized and re-organized each day in just a few seconds.

Sometimes basic is better.

YOXI  I like this a lot - easier to use than ToDo X which I was using a while back. A few bugs (I couldn't find anywhere on Justin's site a way to email him about bugs, so I'm having to post them here):

• currently I can't change the font colours of the task/folder font in prefs, even though it gives me the options to do so

• the 'do you really want to delete this?' dialog needs to pop up on top of the menu, because otherwise sometimes it ends up behind it and I can't click on the buttons!

• once there are folders with items in them enough to fill up the pane, there's no way to add a folder at top level without closing all the other folders first (to create a space to click in), as far as I can tell

the app needs new icons, but donations aren't enough to pay for it.

MODERNAIRE  Check Off is one of the best menu item apps ever.

Your To-Do's right there on the menu!

Improvements I see needed are the text box should stay the size you want it, or maybe a default size.

This includes font choice.

The iPod notes feature would be great for 1.5 users of iPod. I have a 1G iPod and it would be GREAT to have that feature for older iPods!

When printing the list, it would be nice to select text size. Maybe an option for keeping the font the user is using and size of fonts.

Would be great to see you, Justin, do a better menu clock/calendar. Something simple and cool.

Thanks for this awesome app!

STEVE  GREAT little freeware app that does more than many pay programs, and does it well.

You can create a simple list or arrange in an outline format (folders, indent/outdent), with text notes and color labels. Easy drag and drop and multiple-select, and great menu bar integration. Printing and multiple export options round out the features.

I would love to see the following features added to further increase usability-

1. Tab and shift-tab to indent/outdent items.

2. A hot key to bring down the task list.

I give the program a 4 in Features only compared to pricier, larger programs. I think the feature set is actually perfect for my needs.

ANONYMOUS  Excellent little freeware. There are many complex (read: bloated) planners out there, this is not one of them. It does what a good to do list should do, remind you. I love that it sits there, no fancy icon just blends into the background. It is very close to my standards of elegance, what ever that is worth!

It has been very stable and have not lost any information.

One gripe is that the "details" window is not user adjustable, the size is chose randomly, I can raise it but sometimes that covers up some of the tasks. I would prefer if i could pull down rather than raise up. Width is not a needed as much as height.

The biggest compliment I could give such a program is that I use it every day.

ANONYMOUS  I have used it for almost a year, and tried it again recently.

Unfortunately, the app keeps losing information: the latest task being reduced to "new task", without any pattern to suggest it is related to anything lese but the software itself. And I tested it intensively, corresponded with the original developer, who gave up. The new developer is simply not responsive.

I really loved it, but lost too much info to be able to rely on it. Also, the fact that it simply disappeared before fixing a bug as serious as this one is unresponsible even if it was not much money.

Don't buy it.

PEGGY  If I clicked on the plus sign, it did nothing. If I clicked on the new folder, it gave me new task. If I clicked on the color symbol, it deleted the highlighted item. If I clicked to the right of the color symbol, it gave me color! Clicking on the gear worked properly.

It worked fine for a week or so before it started doing this. Ran permissions: nada. I decided to trash the ap and reinstall a new copy. The new copy buttons all work fine, but now it won't resize the column to make all items visible (checked in prefs). Also, it is too narrow. I need a resize gizmo on the bottom right corner! :) All of the general prefs except the first are working sporadically.

Would really like to see the following:

MON  This is an excellent tool. It only needs integration with iCal. That'd be fabulous.

Just a couple of things that could be improved:

- currently when I type I get automatic spell-checking as I write. I don't know how to disable that. There should be a preference item for it.

- The access to the Preferences and Quit menu is a bit clumsy. The menu appears with a delay when I click on the icon in the Check Off window. I would prefer if that Preferences/Quit menu would simply appear by command-clicking on the Check Off icon in the menubar. That'd be a lot quicker and handier.

- this would be more of an unnecessary extra, but if it is possible at all, I think it would be cool to have an alternative to the menubar display. The option to have Check Off display a floating window; or a small semi-transparent window on the desktop that would only activate on clicking on it, and would stay below icons when inactive. Sort of like a sticky.

Looking forward to the next release. I hope the developer stays with the idea of releasing it as GNU. I would gladly donate a few dollars but for small applications like this I prefer when it's an optional rather than a requirement with a nag screen.

TIM MCBRAYER  I like this program but there are a few improvements I hope the developer will put into the next major release:

1. When you create a new to-do it should automatically be in the mode to name the to do. Right now you have to doubleclick on the item to change the text.

2. It would be nice to have a shortcut button for printing the list. Now you have to click on a button and then select print from a drop down list.

3. I should be able to change the preferences so that when I put a check mark in the done box the item automatically goes off the to-do list if that is the way I want to manage my to-dos. Maybe all to-dos can be written to a log file that is updated after each time you use the program. That way you could always go back and see all of your old to-dos if you needed to without clogging up your main to-do screen.

JEFF SAFIRE  Check Off 2.4.1 is an exceptional utility. I use it everyday, mostly to keep track of things I come across online and need to take another look at some point, and also to keep track of my to-dos for the day. The addition of categorization with multiple folders is a very welcome feature. Now it is simple to take a quick look at different categories of to-do lists. The one feature I would like to see added would be the ability to add a New Folder wherever you click the cursor, rather than always at the end of a folder's list. Overall, I rate this as a valuable tool for managing everyday productivity.

ANONYMOUS  Have to agree with everyone... great little app. 5 bucks isnt bad.

One little request for new version. To be able to add web links to shortcuts. Now that would be cool.

ANONYMOUS  Very nice and he fixed a bug with dragging items in the list within a few days! I bought it and like it, simple and elegant. Would like to see some wrap around visible text in the future.

I also purchased Burnout Menu a few weeks ago and have been using both for a few days... removed Burnout Menu today. Check Off has more features and is better thought out.

ANONYMOUS  Great little app! Straight and to the point. Just an unobtrusive To Do List. Perfect.

BIG SWIFTY  I like this little program and paid for a copy. Nice, intuitive little tool, especially for a guy who can't get anything accomplished without a list. In a future version I'd like to see longer items handled a little more gracefully in the list. Right now longer items wrap themselves off the bottom of the line field.

ANONYMOUS  Great little program. I'm very partial to menu bar plug-ins which help conserve precious dock space. This is elegant and effective. I suggest adding more user customization. I would love to be able to resize the drop down window to be both longer and wider (or some people might like to make it smaller). The ability to change text size, color, font etc. would be a nice bonus as well. With a few more features this could replace OmniOutliner as my ToDoList manager of choice. In that case I'd be sending a donation-if you wanted to accept it. :-) Keep up the good work!
